•Whenusingdualstrobesofdifferentmodelssuchasa DS51and
aDS125,settheIDswitchtoDS51.
Removethebackfromthehousing.Themountingtrayforthe
cameraissecuredtothehousingback.Positionthecameraand
lensonthetrayand

FlashConnectionforExternalStrobes
WhenusinganexternalstrobeconnectthehousingsHotShoe
Connector,slidetheconnectorintothehotshoeofthecamera
fromthebackofthecameraasshown.Slidetheconnector
forwarduntil
itstops.This
canbedone
afterthe
camerais
securedwith
themounting
bolt.
Caution:
DonotremovetheExternalStrobeConnector'swaterproofcap
unlessanexternalsynccordisgoingtobepluggedin.
InstallingCamerainHousing
Beforeinstallingthecamera,pulloutonthecontrolsinthefront
sectionofthehousing.Thiswillallowthecameratoslidein
easier.Oncethecameraisinstalledandthelidsnapshavebeen
closed,returnthecontrolstotheiroperatingposition.

ClosingtheHousing
1.Placehousingfacedowninyourlap.
2.Checktoseethatthereisano'ring
onthehousingbackandthatitis
cleanandinitsproperlocation.
3.Guidethebackontothehousing.
Theo'ringshouldtouchthehousing
allthewayaround.Thereshould
beanevengapallthewayarou
betweenthehousingandthe
housingback.
4.Liftthelidsnapssotheyare
extendedandplacethelidsnapinto
thehookonthehousingback.
5.Toclosethehousingpush
downonthelidsnapsuntil
theysnapintoplace. Lid
snapsonoppositesidesof
thehousingshouldbeclosed
atthesametime.Besurethey
aredownfarenoughtoengage
thelock.
Doublecheck- Oncethehousingis
closed,checktheo'ringseal.Checkthegapbetweenthe
housingbackandthehousing,itshouldbeevenalltheway
around.
Lookthroughtheclearplasticbackattheo'ring.Youshouldseea
darkenedareawheretheo'ringiscompressedagainstthe
housingback.Ifyoudonotseeanevenblackcompressionseal
allthewayaroundtheback,openthelidsnaps,reseatthe
housingbackandclosethelidsnaps.Visuallycheckthesealagain.

TheZoomClamphasspringssoitcanbeexpandedtofitover
theZoomringofthelensasshownin(Fig.Q.InstalltheZoom
Clampwiththeextensiontabstowardtherearelementofthe
lens.AfterinstallingtheZoomClamp,checkthatwhenrotating
theZoomClampitrotatestheZoomringonthelens.Ifthe
ZoomClampisnottightenoughtorotatetheZoomringonthe
lens,removetheZoomClampandinstalltherubberstrips
(supplied)totheinsideoftheZoomClampasshown(Fig.F).
Twothicknessesofrubberstripsareprovided.Startbyinstalling
thethinnestrubberstrips,iftheZoomClampstillisnottight
enoughusethethickerrubberstrips.ReinstalltheZoomClamp.

AftertheZoomClampisinstalled,lowertheappropriateGear
SleeveovertheZoomClampaligningtheGearSleeveribswiththe
groovesintheZoomClampsextendedtabsasshown(Fig.D8cE
onpage9).NotethattheribsoftheGearSleeveshouldslide
freelyinthegroovesoftheZoomClamp.IftheGearSleevedoes
notslidefreely,removeanyrubberstripsontheinsideofthe
ZoomClamp,ifnorubberstripsareinstalledthentryusingthe
ZoomClampandGearSleeveforType2 lensesinthe#5509.28
package.
LowertheGearSleeveintotheportopeningofthehousingso
theteethontheGearSleevemeshwiththeteethonthehousing
DriveGear(Fig.G).Whentheportisinstalleditwilllockthe
GearSleeveinplace.Afterinstallingtheport,rotatethehousing
ZoomControlKnobtoseethattheGearSleeveisproperly
rotatingthelensesZoomring.

strips(supplied)totheinsideof
theZoomClampasshown(Fig.H).
Twothicknessofrubberstrips
areprovided.Startbyinstalling
thethinnestrubberstrips,ifthe
ZoomClampstillisnottight
enoughusethethickerrubber
strips.ReinstalltheZoomClamp.

DuetothelargerdiameteroflensopeningonType2 lenses,the
ZoomClampandGearSleeveneedtobeinstalledfromtherear
(bayonetend)ofthelens.UsethehousingsLensReleaseControl
andremovethecameralensfromthecamerabody.

InstallingthePort
Topreparetheportforinstallation,removetheporto'ringand
lightlylubricateit.Theportsealisa side-to-sidesealand
requirestheo'ringtobelightlylubricatedforeasyinstallation.
Puta smallamountoflubricantonyourfingersanddrawthe
o'ringthroughyourfingerstolightlylubricateit.Donotstretch
theo'ring.Checkthatthelipoftheportwheretheo'ringfits
andthesealingsurfaceonthehousingareclean.Placetheport,
witho'ringintothehousing'sportopening.Pressdownonthe
portfirmlyandevenlyuntilyoufeeltheportslideintoplace.
Continuetopushdownontheportandpusheachportlock
forwarduntilitclicksintoplace.Itmayhelptoslightlyrotate
theportasyoupushinontheportlock.Whentheportlock
clicksintoplacetheReleaseButtonwilldropdownagainstthe
portlock.
Checkaroundtheperimeteroftheportsealtoseethatthe
o'ringisproperlysealedandnotextruded.
Therearetwoportlockson
thefrontofthehousing.

Toremovethe port lift upon each Release Buttonandslidethe
portlockawayfromtheport.

Iftheportisinstalledbeforethe
cameraisinsertedintothehousing,
lookontheinsideofthehousingsat
theportseal.Checktoseethatthe
o'ringisproperlysealedasshownin
figure1 andnotextrudedasshown
infigure2.
Caution:
Afterinstallingtheport,turntheZoomControlknobonthe
housing.IftheZoomControlisdifficulttoturn,thegearsleeve
maybewarped.Ifsoreduceoromitanyrubberinstalledonthe
ZoomClamp.(Fig.Honpg.1T).IftheZoom Clamp isstill warped,
use of the #5509.28 package may be required. (See page 7)

MountingtheTray/Handles
Whenmountingthealuminumtrayandhandlestothehousing,
firstinserttheblackbushingsinthetrayslots.Thebushingsfit
tightlyinthetrayslotssotheywillnotfalloutwhenthetraybolts
areremoved.Tightentrayboltssothatslotsarefarthestforward
towardhousingfront(seeillustration).

UsingExternalStrobes
ThishousinghasConversionCircuitrybuiltintothecamera
tray.WhenusedwithIkeliteDSSubstrobestheConversion
CircuitryprovidesrealCanoneTTLflashexposurewithoverand
under-exposurecompensationoftwof-stopsinhalf-stop
increments.
TheConsversionCircuitryalsooffersManualexposurecontrol
with3 1/2f-stopsofunder-exposurecontrolin1/2stop
increments.
TheConversionCircuitryispoweredbytheIkeliteDSSubstrobe
whenconnectedtothehousingwiththe#4103.51singleor
#4103.52dualsynccord.

Using the Conversion Circuitry (Set Dssubstrboe torn mode)

TheConversionCircuitrydefaultissettoTTLToswitchbetween
TTLandManualModesdepressbothModeButtonsatthesame
timeandkeepthemdepresseduntilyouseethedesiredYellow
LEDModeilluminate.
•TTLMode(indicatedwhentheyellowLEDdirectlybelowTTLis
illuminated).TTLModeisthedefaultsetting.WhentheDS
SubstrobeispoweredONtheyellowTTLLEDwillilluminate.
Noneofthe Red LEDs will illuminate. This indicatesthatNO(+)
plusor(-)minuscompensationisselected.DepresstheMode
buttonstoselect+/'compensation.NotethattheTTL+/-
compensationvaluesareintheyellowbarwiththeheadingTTL.
•ManualMode(indicatedwhentheyellowLEDdirectlybelow
theM isilluminated).WhentheManualModeisselectedtheRed
LEDdirectlybelowtheF (fullpower)willilluminate.Notethat
theManualminus(-)compensationvaluesareintheblackbar
withtheheadingM.(SetDSSubstrboetoTTLmode)

updatetoprovideoptimumperformance.

•DS125Substrobeswitha SerialNumberbelow2,500mustbe
updatedtooperatecorrectlywiththeeTTLConversionCircuitry.

Lubricants
1.Ikeliteprovidessiliconelubricantwiththehousing.We
recommendthatyouuseonlyIkelitelubricantassomeother
brandsmaycausetheo'ringtoswellandnotsealproperly.
2.Useonlyenoughlubricanttolightlycovercontrolshaftsand
o'rings.Wipeoffanyexcesslubricantwitha cleancloth.
Lubricantisnota sealant,itisusedtoreducefriction.Excessive
lubricantcancollectsandanddirtwhichmayinterferewith
propersealing.
CAUTION
Never use spray lubricants as the propellant ingredient can
cause the plastic housing to crack.

StrobeArms
Pre-DiveYourSystem
Itisrecommendedthatyoutakethecompletesystemintoa
swimmingpoolbeforeuseinopenwater.Thiswillgiveyoua
chancetobecomefamiliarwiththehandlingandoperationof
yourhousingandstrobe(s).
Thishousingofferstwotypesofarmmountingsystems.The
topoftherubberhandlesutilizeIkelite'sQuick-ReleaseArm,
availablewiththeSA-100RArmsystem.
Thebottomoftherubberhandleshavea wingnutthataccepts
theIkeliteTrayMount.TheTrayMountcomeswiththeIkelite
SA-125ArmsystemandtheSA-100TArmsystem.

OptionalAccessories
StoringtheHousing
Whenthehousingisgoingtobestoredfora prolongedperiodit
shouldbesoakedina mildsoapsolution,rinsedanddried
thoroughly.Removethebackandportfromthehousing.
Removethebackandporto'rings,lightlylubricatethemand
placethemina plasticzip-lockbag.Placetheplasticbaginside
thehousingforstorage.Operatethepushbuttonsperiodically.

Thebuoyancyofthesystemwilldependonthesizeand
numberofstrobesusedaswellastheweightofthecamera.
Ideallythesystemshouldbeslightlynegativeinthe
environmentinwhichitwillbeused.Ifyouneedtoaddweight
tothesystem,anoptionalleadweightisavailable.Toaddthe
leadweightremovethe(2)screwsfromthebottomofthe
aluminumtray.Placetheleadweightintothepocketofthe
aluminumtrayandreattach.
