SAFETY NOTES & GENERAL SERVICING ADVICE
1. This manual is NOT intended as a comprehensive repair/maintenance guide to the appliance.
2. It should ONLY be used by suitably qualified persons having technical competence applicable
product knowledge and suitable tools and test equipment.
3. Servicing of electrical appliances must be undertaken with the appliance disconnected (unplugged)
from the electrical supply.
4. Servicing must be preceded by Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance checks.
5. Personal safety precautions must be taken to protect against accidents caused by sharp edges on
metal and plastic parts.
6. After servicing the appliance must be rechecked for Electrical Safety. In the case of appliances which
are connected to a water supply (i.e.: Washing Machines, Dishwashers & Food Centres etc.) checks
must be made for leaks from seals gaskets and pipe work and rectification carried out where
necessary.
7. It can be dangerous to attempt 'DIY' repairs / maintenance on complex equipment and the Company
recommends that any problem with the appliance is referred to its own Service Organisation.
8. Whilst the Company has endeavoured to ensure the accuracy of the data within this publication they
cannot hold themselves responsible for any inconvenience or loss occasioned by any error within.
9. This appliance may be fitted with a '3 phase' motor which uses a different type of power
module.
This power board is fitted with a large aluminium heat sink which remains live after the power
is disconnected.
Under no circumstances should the board be removed under the time shown below in Fig 1.
Alternative 'quick methods' of discharging the board SHOULD NOT be used or attempted.

Risk of Electric Shock

Power Module may hold an
electrical charge for a short period
after switching off the machine.
Allow 5 minutes after
disconnecting the machine from
the electrical supply before
commencing ANY work.

INTRODUCTION
Programme Uses
WM Doctor has been introduced to enable Merloni Engineers to run a diagnostic test from their
Emit terminal.
It can also be used via normal PCs or laptop computers fitted with appropriate software and
connecting leads.
The programme can be used to establish the current File Version loaded, check the loaded
Eeprom and power board is ok, and test components of the appliance.
Wash Doctor Evo 2 will work with laundry appliances manufactured with EVO 2 software.
It is important to read this guide fully and view the illustrations carefully before attempting to
use the Wash Doctor programmes.
Ensure that the Evo 2 appliances are switched on at the mains.
All appliances should be empty of water and clothes before beginning tests.
After programming or re-programming an Eeprom using the Eeprom Writer programme, Wash
Doctor should be used to run a functional diagnostic test to establish that the appliance works.
Do not run Wash Doctor at the same time as the Eeprom Writer programme.

LOW END ADAPTOR
Some models have a combined Power and Display board mounted behind the console panel.
These products require an adaptor to connect the Emit to the appliance. The adaptor is
shown below Part Number C00116135.
Information on the use of this adapter can be found in leaflet 8200787.
Note: This procedure using the adaptor MUST NOT be carried out with the Mains supply
connected when the top cover is removed from the appliance.

CONNECTION
Connect the Hardware Key to the Emit via the USB cable and switch on the appliance. Connect the
Hardware Key to the appliance. A Green Led illuminates on the key. During communication with the
software Orange and Red Led’s on the Hardware Key will flash intermittently.

STARTING THE SOFTWARE
When you have the software loaded onto your Emit, using the dropdown task bar select Washing
Machine Doctor icon. This will launch the multi-button box shown. Next select the ‘WM Doctor
Evo 2’ button to launch the main screen.

APPLIANCE DETAILS
This area displays appliance details, option buttons, knobs and features. If the information displays correctly it indicates the
Eeprom and power board are ok. If it is incorrect then the Eeprom or power board will need to be replaced before tests can
be carried out.
TEST COMPONENTS
This area shows the various components the Wash Doctor software checks during the test.
CONNECTION
This area shows Connection port, Connection button, Statistics and Customer Info buttons. The Statistics of the test and the
Customers information can be saved using these buttons.
TEST BUTTONS
These buttons select either an Automatic test or Single item test. There is also a Stop Test button and an ‘item OK’ button
if required. The ‘Ko’ button is not applicable. In almost all cases, the Single and Automatic buttons are the only ones required
for testing.

After you have a connection and establish the Eeprom and power board are correct in ‘Hardware Configuration’ section,
there are two ways to test components, Single (as shown above) or Automatic (shown on page 19) In this case, select the
item from the dropdown list.

If test is unsuccessful a Help File is available by clicking in the white area where the failure is listed. A separate box
appears with suggestions of possible faults.

To test all the components shown, simply select ‘Automatic’ and the programme will progress through components 1 to 21 as
applicable to the appliance. Leave all the boxes with ticks checked.
