V9
2| Overview of the V9 highlights
PURE IP-TELEPHONY
Version 9 brings lots of new features to the innovaphone PBX, which increase the power and versatility of
the telephone system. One of these features is ‘myPBX’, flexible Unified Communications client which brings the
telephone and even more communication to your computer– easy to use with any web browser. Also new:
the innovaphone PBX can also be operated as a Virtual Appliance – this means increased flexibility, especially for
Hosted PBX providers. The new application platform enables Linux applications to be easily operated directly on
the innovaphone PBX hardware. Experience it yourself: individual applications or 3rd party applications can be
integrated easily without a separate server. Learn more about the innovaphone PBX Version 9 highlights!

The innovaphone PBX is even more secure with V9!
More security features will be added in V9 to increase the
innovaphone PBX security and to protect the telephone
system against attacks.
Incorrect password – block for 20 seconds
Should someone attempt to register to the PBX with
an incorrect password, all subsequent registrations to
the respective object are declined for 20 seconds.
This makes it considerably more difficult for hacker
programmes to test passwords, also preventing the
detested brute force attacks.
Registrations only authorised with Admin password
If the “Zero Configuration Deployment” functions are used for
a rollout, it is now possible to determine that the Admin
password can be used for log-ins. This avoids any external
people from being able to register temporarily without needing
a user name and password, thus preventing “unknown
registrations” as they need the admin log-in. Furthermore, it
is possible to configure the system so that devices can only
register to an object using the admin password.
Deny registrations to an object
Sometimes there are objects in a PBX which are needed
for various reasons but which are not suitable for devices

to register to. This can for example be a mobile telephone
user who does not have a fixed line telephone. You can now
entirely disable the possibility of registering to such objects.
Definition of permitted IP address ranges
It was possible, even prior to V9, to define IP address
ranges for devices which were allowed to log-in to the
PBX without a password. It is now possible to define
such IP address ranges for log-ins with a password.
Even if a hacker wants to register to a system with a
correct password, he still won’t be able to as his IP address
is not within the defined IP address range.
Permitting multiple networks with configuration rights
In the past, it was possible to define a network which had
access to the PBX. If one network was not sufficient, one
had the possibility of allowing all networks to access the
PBX at will and without any limitations. Theoretically, this
carried the risk that hackers could enter and administrate
a PBX without permission. It is now possible to name
several networks which are allowed to access the
PBX configuration interface. Therefore, for example,
administrators from various networks can make changes
to the PBX and it is guaranteed that no unauthorised
person can administrate the PBX from an external network.
Minimum information transmission by the innovaphone
PBX
Due to the fact that minimum information is transmitted, the
innovaphone is now better protected against so-called SIP
Scan Tools which can be used to scan networks and spy out
product information on a telephone system, such as software
version, hardware details etc. You can almost say, the
innovaphone PBX is less gossipy and hardly gives hackers
any information which they could, in turn, use for attacks.
The topic of security has already been discussed in the
innovaphone News 10/2010. Read more about optimum
password protection which can protect the innovaphone
PBX from Brute Force attacks and learn about other
helpful security tips.
New innovaphone gateway range
V9 will be accompanied by a whole new range of PRI gateways
for the innovaphone PBX. There is a suitable gateway for any
scenario, from a simple media gateway to the powerful IP6010.
IP6010
The innovaphone VoIP gateway IP6010 is the worthy and
powerful replacement for the current IP6000. We have
enhanced the IP6000’s proven features: The IP6010 is the
VoIP gateway with the highest port density: it has 4 primary
multiplex interfaces (PRI), two of which are suitable for
connecting to the trunk lines and another two for looping in.
They can be activated separately and according to need.
Furthermore, the IP6010 has another ISDN interface (BRI)
and 2 separate Ethernet interfaces.
The main difference to the IP6000 is the increased storage
capacity and increased processor power: A 512 MB DDR2
RAM memory ensures sufficient capacity and a Dual Core
processor guarantees performance with two times 800
MHz. Additional capacity pays off especially for larger
installations. Furthermore, the IP6010 is the perfect basis
for the Linux Application Platform, thus enabling other
applications to be operated directly on the gateway without
needing a separate server (see innovaphone Reporting).
Power over Ethernet is the IP6010’s only power supply.
The IP6010 has been designed in the same way as all other
innovaphone VoIP gateways and has no rotating parts such
as hard disks or fans. The gateway’s slim design dimensions
enable up to two devices to fit onto one 19 inch height unit
with the help of an installation frame – that is up to 120
channels in one height unit. A compact flash card can be
used for announcements, voicemail and music on hold.
IP3010
The VoIP gateway IP3010 closes the gap between the
IP800 and the ‘big’ PRI gateway IP6010. It has just one PRI
interface and is perfect for use in PBX scenarios which,
looking at installation size, would probably be suited to one or
more IP800 gateways, but which only have one S2M interface.
The IP3010 cannot be used in loop-through mode. However,
appropriate licensing activates up to 60 DSP channels,
enabling efficient conference call functionality.
VoIP Gateway IP6010
V9
4| V9 Features
PURE IP-TELEPHONY
IP0010
Amongst the innovaphone boxes, the VoIP gateway
IP0010 is the “pure PBX platform”, as we have done
without multiple interfaces. The IP0010 has neither
primary multiplex interfaces (PRI), nor does it have basic
rate interfaces (BRI). Two Ethernet interfaces make the
connection over SIP or H.323 – the IP0010 is therefore
perfectly suited to connect to a carrier or as a powerful plat-
form for the PBX in larger installations. As with the IP3010,
appropriate licensing activates up to 60 DSP channels,
enabling efficient conference call functionality. Otherwise,
the features of the IP0010 are equivalent to the IP6010.
IP1060
The IP1060 is a pure media gateway. It has two PRI in-
terfaces, which, as usual can be licensed individually.
The innovaphone PBX cannot be used on the IP1060
and cannot be used as an application platform. Put the
IP1060 together with the innovaphone Virtual Appliance
(IPVA) for a very interesting combination if the innova-
phone PBX is installed in a VMware environment, yet an
ISDN connection is still needed. However, any other in-
novaphone gateway can be used for this too.
The innovaphone Virtual Appliance (IPVA)
From Version 9, it is possible to install the innovaphone
PBX as a Virtual Appliance in a VMware environment. If
a VMware installation already exists in a company, it is
now possible for the innovaphone PBX to also run on the
VMware as an independent entity – without an additional
operating system. Virtual Appliance (IPVA) enables large
installations to be realized and test environments to be set
up without needing high investment. The new media
gateway IP1060 or any other innovaphone gateway can
be used if the innovaphone PBX is installed in a VMware
environment yet an ISDN connection is still needed.
Especially providers of centralised telephone systems
such as PBX hosts, providers and other service providers
benefit from Virtual Appliance. Installing a new customer
solution is then just limited to setting up a PBX in a new
VMware entity. PBXs belonging to different customers
have been separated securely since version 8, administering
and billing have been made easy. This clear separation is
also possible when applying the innovaphone Virtual
Appliance. For example, it is possible to determine the
number of licenses bought by a customer using a license
master concept for each individual Virtual Appliance /
PBX. New licenses have to be allocated when a customer
has used all his licenses. Therefore, the operator has full
control over the licenses available to a customer.
If a technical fault occurs, only the relevant VMware entity
is affected – the other PBXs remain untouched and are
still completely available. No changes have been made to
licensing and software service when the innovaphone
Virtual Appliance in Version 9 is used. The licenses are
the same as those used for an innovaphone PBX running
on a gateway. The licenses can also still be managed
using my.innovaphone. However, there is one difference:
The licenses are bound to the VMware entity’s MAC
address and cannot (!) be released.
New IP Telephone IP241
The new innovaphone Gigabit Ethernet telephone IP241
has arrived! With its high resolution TFT colour display
(3.45”, 320 x 240 pixel), the IP241 provides brilliant depiction
of call lists, telephone directories and the telephone
menu. High resolution allows much more information
to be shown on the display.
Furthermore, it is also possible to change the background
image on the IP241. A web browser is all you need to
access the telephone’s web interface and upload any
image. The image dimensions need to be the rightsize for
the telephone display (320 x 240 pixels) and stored in
PNG image format. This individual background is then
displayed in idle state and during calls – a useful feature
to bring Corporate Identity colours on to the telephone
display. Thanks to the graphical display, the IP241 is also
basically equipped to manage other languages and special
character sets such as Cyrillic, Greek or Turkish. This can
be provided upon request.

PURE IP-TELEPHONY
The IP241’s hardware is definitely on a par with its
sister telephone IP240. The alphanumeric keyboard
enables fast and easy dialling using name recognition
and uncomplicated messaging. The wide range of
group, partner and operator features available with the
innovaphone PBX continues to be available and includes
activating call diversions and announcements, switching
off ringing tones and the partner key with busy lamp
field for the manager/secretary function.
The IP241 is also suitable for use in home offices,
needing no separate router, switch or hub. Connected
to a DSL modem, the IP241 uses the PPPoE protocol
to establish a VPN connection to the company network
and registers itself to the PBX through the tunnel.
innovaphone myPBX: the Unified Communications
client
The innovaphone Version 9 comes with the flexible Unified
Communications client, myPBX, which enables computer
based telephone operation and which works on all platforms
(Windows, Mac OS X, etc). A web browser is all that is ne-
cessary – there is no need for complex installations of lar-
ge software. A simple link enables users to access myPBX
and to log-in with the appropriate telephone log-in. Users are
then able to operate all telephones which have been stored
for them in the innovaphone PBX, no matter whether desk-
top telephone or mobile phone.
A wide range of functions can be used once you are
logged-in to myPBX:
:: Presence Status - set, display and add notes
:: Create favourite lists and individual profiles for flexible
contact management
:: Set and manage call diversions
:: Alphanumeric search for contacts
:: Telephone calls, chats or emails
:: View call list
:: Open a collaboration session from myPBX
:: Privacy protection
:: Click to Dial: Dial telephone numbers using a Wind-
ows Hotkey (Windows)
:: Fast access to myPBX over an icon in the task bar
(Windows)
:: Popup window to operate myPBX in the background
(Windows)
innovaphone myPBX is now available in German, Danish,
English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Italian, Latvian,
Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and
Czech. Other languages on request.
The innovaphone Software phone is back!
The innovaphone software phone is being revived
and is now available in combination with the Unified
Communications client, myPBX. All functions are
thus available with the innovaphone software phone
and can be controlled centrally and comfortably in
myPBX. A headset is all that is needed to connect to
the computer – a desk-top or cordless telephone is
no longer needed. The innovaphone software phone
can be activated with the tried and tested software
phone license and will in future be updated to new
innovaphone PBX versions.
Linux Application Platform
Existing interfaces such as TAPI, VoIP CAPI and XML
SOAP-API had already provided various possibilities for
simple and cost effective integration of a wide range of
applications into the innovaphone PBX in the past.
Version 9 enables a new, powerful Application
Platform for the innovaphone PBX. This enables the
open source operating system, Linux, to be used in
parallel to the innovaphone PBX firmware on the new
IP6010, 2010 or IP0010 hardware. Are you thinking:
innovaphone PBX and Linux? Why? Don’t worry! The
innovaphone PBX will still run under innovaphone’s
own operating system. However, thanks to the Linux
Application Platform you now also have the possibility
to use 3rd party applications and existing programmes
in parallel. The advantages: you do not need a separate
server for your Linux applications, you just simply use
the application directly on the innovaphone box’s
compact flash card.
This opens up totally new possibilities for those who would like
to experiment with own Linux applications. No wish remains
unheard - from own billing applications to conference applications.
Even innovaphone itself uses the application platform. The first Li-
nux based application is available: innovaphone Reporting.

PURE IP-TELEPHONY
We are excited to hear about YOUR ideas! We look forward
to your feedback if you are interested in or have suggestions
for Linux applications under [email protected].
innovaphone Reporting
innovaphone Reporting is a tool which gives an uncomplicated
overview of calls in a company. It is based on the Linux
operating system and runs either on the innovaphone IP6010,
IP3010 or IP0010 gateways, or in a VMware environment.
innovaphone Reporting is based on a database which
processes Call Detail Records (CDR). The features include:
:: Call enquiries for individual PBX subscribers or for groups
:: Exact definition of the analysis day or period
:: List of all calls and user-defined grouping of the results list
according to date or object
:: Generate individual filters, especially for enquiries which
are frequently carried out
:: More exact definition of call status considered within an
enquiry (no answer, connected, busy, no connection)
:: More exact definition of call direction considered within an
enquiry (in-coming, out-going, switched or forwarded calls)
:: Storing the report lists is always possible as a PDF or
XML file
:: The Reporting database and web server configuration
files can be saved automatically or manually over the
general web server administration
Call Completion – Call back on busy
Several small features have been added with V9, which
further optimise the innovaphone PBX. One important
PBX feature is “Call Completion”: This is a very welcome
feature if you want to call somebody and his line is busy.
Pressing a key tells the telephone that it should call this
number as soon as this subscriber is available again. This
function was already available on the innovaphone PBX
in earlier versions. The innovation in V9 is that it is now
fully available for outgoing calls and most importantly
also for incoming calls – the innovaphone PBX can only
use this feature if it is supported by the public telephone
network of course.
Configurator with new features
The configurator which is integrated in my.innovaphone is
the perfect tool for planning innovaphone PBX projects
and providing clarity about their structure and size.
Projects with one or more locations can be configured.
The necessary components, licenses and accessories
can be added and deleted as necessary.
New functions have been added since Version 8 as user
suggestions have been incorporated in the constant
further development of the configurator. It is now possible
to save projects on the server at any time. The projects
saved are listed clearly on the configurator’s start page
and can be accessed, changed and saved again or even
deleted with a single click. Projects which have been
saved are of course only visible to the registered user.
Alternatively, the user still has the possibility of saving a
project XML file centrally on his own system. This file can
then be uploaded and used again the next time you log on
to the configurator.
And last but not least, a fully-fledged Italian language
version of the innovaphone configurator has recently
been launched.
Innovations in my.innovaphone
A good year has passed since my.innovaphone went online.
Since then further development of the customer portal has
continued steadily, incorporating many user suggestions.
Here is a short summary of all the changes:
Simulation my.innovaphone play area: myplay
The innovaphone myplay enables you to cavort on a
simulated my.innovaphone play area to test and practice
with the license manager functionalities. Projects, devices,
licenses and software service credits (SSCs) can be
managed centrally in myplay. It is also possible to load
activations and enter into Software Service Agreements
(SSA) for projects – this all just simulation and without any

PURE IP-TELEPHONY
consequences at all! myplay is therefore perfectly suited
for training colleagues how to use my.innovaphone or
for trying out trial calculations. It is possible to test new
license combinations for certain scenarios and then to
add the appropriate SSA.
SSA calculation when changing over from a decentralised
to a centralised scenario using floating licensing
Licenses used to be bound to the appropriate local
PBX in a master-slave concept, even when they were
no longer used efficiently. Excess licenses on a slave
PBX could not be passed on to another local PBX. This
has changed now thanks to floating licenses and the
license master concept: All licenses are now on the
license master where local PBXs can dynamically pick
up licenses as needed. In my.innovaphone, you now
have the possibility to undertake the SSA calculation
for such a transfer from decentralised to centralised. To
do this, just select the appropriate project under
Licenses / Projects, and then change to Licenses /
devices. You then define the calculation date and the
final SSA date and enter the master together with its
slave devices. The scenario can even be extended with
further port licenses as desired. When you start the
calculation, my.innovaphone will display the necessa-
ry SSC value for the changeover.
Deleting a user from a company
The Company Admin can delete users from a company
under Licenses /Company /User. These users still have
their my.innovaphone account, but are no longer assigned
to the company.
Activation key certificate
Every activation key added can now be downloaded as a
certificate under Licenses /Activations. A PDF then encloses
the key and indicates the respective content.
Device input using innovaphone order number or order
reference number
It has always been possible to add single devices to a
project using MAC address ranges or with the aid of a
text file. Meanwhile, in my.innovaphone you also have
the option of adding devices by entering the innovaphone
order number or order reference number. If this function
is used, you need to ensure that you place separate
orders with your distributor for each project.
Simplified SSA mechanism
The SSA mechanism has been greatly simplified. For
example, there is no longer a minimum contract period –
an SSA is calculated exactly to the day from the license
bind date. If you fail to enter into an SSA in time, a 100 %
premium is due for the period from the license bind date
until the date when the SSA is entered into. Within a
project, licenses can now have varying SSA periods and
not all licenses on one device have to be under SSA.
Furthermore, an optional SSA start date is included in the
calculation, which helps you to calculate how many SSCs
are needed to enter into an SSA at any time in the future.
Free choice of the software Version
V8 licenses can also be used on a device as a V6 or V7
license. A V6 or V7 installation can thus be extended
easily with V8 single port licenses. V8 licenses can also
be purchased and used for installations with devices
which are actually no longer supported by V8, thanks to
the possibility of downgrading to V6 or V7. This applies to
devices such as IP3000, IP400, IP202 and IP21.
Devices in one order as CSV file
Download all devices from one order in a CSV file by
entering the order number under Licenses /devices /
download devices from one order as CSV. This can be
used to register articles in an inventory management
system, for example.
Update own activation keys
Under Licenses /Own activations /Update, you can make
changes to information on activation keys. Furthermore,
you can adapt the number of license types added.
Mac-address import from the old license manager
It is possible to import individual mac addresses from the
old license manager in my.innovaphone without needing
the old account’s log-in information.
„New Oldies”
The IP6000 and IP2000 will soon go into a well deserved
retirement! Both devices can still be used under V9. However,
they do not work with the Linux application platform. This needs
one of the IPxx10 series gateways. Also the innovaphone
Gigabit telephone IP240-1000 and the PBX software phone
BRIA will no longer be available. Remainders of stock can
be ordered while stocks last.
