MODBUS RS-485 CARD

1.- Introduction
MODBUS card is designed to be installed in SNMP port of all of our Online UPS. This card
is able to provide communication for the UPS under following protocol:
- Implements MODBUS RTU protocol
- Provides MODBUS functions including read holding register and write registers.
- Provides RS232 & RS485 interface
2.- Product Description
1. RS-485 port
2. RS-485/RS232 port
3. Connector to the UPS
4. Address switch
5. Communication setting
6. Resistance switch
7. Jumpers
3.Installation
1. Configure Modbus ID (according to section 4)
2. Configure communication format (according to section 4)
3. Configure RS-485 (according to section 4)
4. Insert Modbus card into the intelligent slot in the UPS (/according to figure 1)
5. Connect AC input to the UPS
6. Connect Modbus card to the computer (an external converter could be necessary)

4. Configuration
4.1. Configure Modbus ID:
Configure using SW1:
Switch down = ON = 1.
Switch up = OFF = 0.
First bit is in the right switch.
4.2. Configure Communication format:
Configure using switches from 1 to 4 in SW2

4.4. Select Communication Type:
Select RS232 or RS-485 by configuring jumpers JP3 and JP4 as below figure.
For selecting RS-485 connect jumpers caps between 2-3 in JP3 and JP4
For selecting RS-232 connect jumpers caps between 1-2 in JP3 and JP4

5.ModeSetting
SERIAL COMMUNICATION:
For using serial communication with multiple RS485 cards, external converter must be used.
There are 2 types: (1) RS485 to RS232 converter or (2) RS485 to Modbus/TCP converter as
indicated in below figures. This converters are not included with this RS485 card.

For using only one (1) RS485 card with remote panel with distance shorter than 1.5
meters, a RJ-45 to DB9 cable converter can be used:
For using only one (1) RS485 card with remote panel with distance longer than 1.5
meters, special converter must be used:
RS485 to RS232 converter RS485 to Modbus/TCP converter
For using multiple RS485 cards & remote panel connected to PC at same time must
be used 1 of 2 converters mentioned previously.

NETWORK TOPOLOGY & RESISTOR CONFIGURATION:
Configure RS-485 Resistance:
Configure using switches from 6 to 8 in SW2
