Please familiarize yourself with the information in this guide. It contains important instructions
for proper use and care, technical performance information and other general information
about your hearing system. Your hearing instruments have been adjusted to your particular
hearing loss. Your hearing healthcare professional will explain these adjustments and the spe-
cial features of your particular model.

Receiver Unit Becoming Accustomed to your Interton hearing system
While purchasing a hearing system is a major step, it is only one step in a process towards more
comfortable hearing. A hearing loss is usually acquired gradually over many years. Successfully
adapting to the advantages your hearing system provides takes time and consistent use. You
will enjoy more benefits from your Interton hearing system by wearing the system regularly in
order to get comfortable with using it.
Your Interton hearing system can serve two purposes. It can deliver the sounds from the side,
where you can hardly hear or can not hear at all (CROS feature), to the side, where you can
hear better. At the same time, it can amplify the sounds from the side, where you can not hear
enough to enjoy all the tints of the life (BiCROS feature).
Not only your Interton system will help you to hear the sounds from the side, from which you did
not hear before, it may also help you to distinguish, where the sound comes from. It may take
time for your brain to adapt to the “Stereo life”, your hearing system will bring you. Nevertheless,
wearing the devices constantly will give your brain time to learn how to interpret the sounds and
increase the benefits you get from using an Interton hearing system.

Proper Placement in the Ear
Placing the Receiver and the Transmitter Units correctly
Your hearing system consists of two hearing instruments: the Receiver
Unit and the Transmitter Unit. You can recognise the Receiver Unit by
the Volume Control and the special sings on the battery door.
The Transmitter Unit is designated for the picking-up, amplifying and
transmitting the sounds from the side, where you can hear worse or can
not hear at all, to the ear, which can hear or can hear better. Accordingly,
the Transmitter Unit should be placed at the “worse” ear.
The Receiver Unit is designated for the receiving of the sounds, trans-
mitted from the “worse” ear and providing them into the better” ear.
Your hearing healthcare professional can also set the Receiver Unit so,
that it will amplify the sounds, coming from the better side. Accordingly,
the Receiver Unit should be placed at the ear, which can hear better.
If you are unsure how to place the Receiver and the Transmitter Units,
you should contact your hearing healthcare professional.
Inserting a Standard Earmold with a BTE (Behind The Ear Instrument):
• WiththeProgramswitchinthe“0”(Off)position,puttheearmold
between your thumb and index finger and position its “point” in
your ear canal. Now, slide the earmold all the way into your ear with
a gentle, twisting movement.
• Turn thetop part oftheearmold gently backward andforward so
that it fits behind the fold of skin above your ear canal.
• Placethehearinginstrumentbehindyourear.Move the earmoldup
and down and press gently to ensure it is positioned correctly in the
ear. You will feel when the earmold is positioned correctly.
• SwitchonyourhearingsystembymovingtheProgramswitchinthe
position “1” (On).

Tip: Insertion of the earmold can be easier if you gently pull your ear
backward with your other hand. Opening and closing your mouth while
inserting may also be helpful.
Inserting a Dome with a BTE Instrument:
• WiththeProgramswitchinthe“0”(Off)position,holdyourhearing
system by the tube where it bends.
• Hang the instrument over the top ofyour ear so thatthe housing
portion is behind your ear and the dome is in front.
• Pushthe domeintoyourear untilitsitscomfortably andthe tube
lies flat against the side of your head. Run your finger down the thin
tube from the top of your ear to the opening of the canal. This makes
the tube fit snugly against the skin of the outer ear and also serves
to insert the tube more securely into the canal. Note: When the
dome is placed correctly, you should not see the tube sticking out
when looking directly into a mirror.

Note: If your hearing system irritates your ear in any way and prevents you from wearing your
hearing instrument, please contact your hearing healthcare professional. Never attempt to
modify the shape of your hearing instrument yourself.
Removal
To remove the hearing instrument from your ear, simply pull the earmold or tube outward with
your thumb and index finger. Next grab the earmold or tube as close to your ear as possible
and remove it. Consult your hearing healthcare professional if you have difficulty removing the
hearing instrument.

On/Off Function
The Program switch serves as the On/Off switch for your hearing
instrument.
To turn the Receiver Unit on, move the program switch to
the Position “1” (to the left). To turn the Transmitter Unit on, move the
Program switch to the Position “ON” (to the left). To turn the Receiver
and/or the Transmitter Unit(s) off, move the program switch to the
Position “0” (totheright).The movingof the Programswitchtothe
position “2” on the Receiver Unit of your hearing system will lead to
the change of the Comfort program and will NOT turn the instrument
Off. The middle position and the On position of the Program switch on
the Transmitter Unit are identical. Whenever you are not wearing the
instrument, remember to turn it off to extend battery life.
Volume Control
The Receiver Unit of your hearing instrument may have the Volume
Control activated. When using this function, you can increase the
volume by turning the Volume Control wheel up towards the top of
your head, or reduce the volume by turning the Volume Control down
towards the base of your head. The Volume Control can be deactivated
by your hearing healthcare professional.
Changing Programs (optional)
Your hearing instruments may have up to two programs activated (the
setting is defined by your hearing healthcare professional). If you have
two programs, you can switch between them by moving the Program
switch on the Receiver Unit (Positions “1” and “2”) of your hearing
system. Special tones will indicate which memory has been activated.
The number of tones indicates the selected program number. These
signal tones can be (de)activated and adjusted by your hearing health-
care professional.
Consult your hearing healthcare professional if the memory programs
in your hearing instruments need to be reconfigured.

Telecoil
Your hearing instruments are equipped with a telecoil system that when activated, modifies
surrounding sounds to make it easier to follow telephone conversations. Please, consult your
hearing healthcare professional, to find out if the telecoil system is activated on your hearing
instrument.
Many gathering places are equipped with assistive listening (tele-loop) systems. Examples may
include schools, theaters and houses of worship. To take advantage of a tele-loop system, you
can also select the telecoil program. When the telecoil program has been selected, you will be
able to hear a clean sound signal via the tele-loop system.
Using Your Hearing System with a Telephone
When the telecoil program is activated, it will pick up magnetic signals from a hearing instru-
ment compatible telephone. Your hearing healthcare professional can program one of your
listening programs to take advantage of the telecoil. By selecting the telecoil program (the
Program switch should be in the position “2” on the Receiver Unit of your hearing system) the
hearing instrument will only pick up the sounds coming from the telephone.
When using the telecoil program, the receiver of the telephone should
be held as shown in the drawing. You may need to move the handset
around slightly to find the best reception.
If you do not have a telecoil program, you may still use the phone
while wearing your hearing instrument. There might be an occasional
whistling sound (feedback) when your device is in close proximity to
the phone. To reduce the potential for this problem, your hearing in-
struments are equipped with a feedback suppression system, which
allows for use of the telephone while greatly reducing the chance
of feedback. This situation can be avoided by positioning the phone
close to the hearing instrument, but not directly on the instrument. If
there is feedback, it may take a second for your hearing instruments
to adapt.
Using the phone with your hearing system may require some practice.

Cellular Phone and Hearing Instrument Compatibility
Hearing instrument performance with cellular phones may vary based on the individual hearing
system or the cell phone being used. If your hearing system and cell phone are not compatible,
you may experience a buzzing or clicking noise while using the two at the same time. To avoid this
situation be sure to test a new cellular phone with your hearing system before purchasing it.
Removing/Inserting the Battery
Open the battery compartment fully by pressing the tab on the base
of the instrument with your fingertip until the battery door snaps
completely open.
TIP: Hold the instrument over a table and/or a soft surface in case the
battery falls out. Remove the film from a new battery and place the new
battery into the battery compartment, matching the plus (+) sign on the
flat side of the battery to the plus (+) sign in the battery compartment.
A magnifying glass and good lighting may be helpful in seeing these
small markings. Close the battery compartment tightly but do not use
force—it should close very easily.
Note: Your hearing system uses size 13 batteries.
Low Battery Warning
Your hearing healthcare professional can activate a Low Battery Warning
function in your hearing instruments. When the battery voltage/power

decreases to a certain level, the instrument will emit some soft beeping signals. This sequence will
continue for a few minutes until the instrument automatically switches off. Change the battery as
soon as you hear the Low Battery Warning tones.
Battery Safety
• Disposeofusedbatteriesproperly.
• Keepbatteriesoutofthereachofchildren.
• Keepbatteriesawayfrompets.
•
Do not place batteries in your mouth. If a battery has been swal lowed, consult a physician
immediately.
To prevent batteries from leaking or exploding:
•Donotexposebatteriestotemperatureextremes(under-10°Corabove+50°C).
•Donotdisposeofbatteriesinare.
• Donotattempttorechargebatterieswhicharenotspecicallydesignatedasrechargeable
or reverse a battery’s polarity.
Cleaning the Earmold (for Models with Traditional Earhooks)
KeepingtheEarmoldcleanwillallowittoproperlysendtheamplied
sound from the hearing instrument into the ear.
First, remove the earmold and the silicone tubing from the hearing instru-
ment. Use lukewarm water to clean the earwax off the earmold. If earwax
is stuck in the sound canal of the earmold, the cleaning loop or a syringe
with lukewarm water can easily be used to “push” the earwax out.
Be sure to thoroughly dry the earmold and its tubing before reconnecting it
to the hearing system. Blow gently through the tubing to remove moisture
trapped inside. The silicone tubing should be changed if it becomes stiff or
brittle.
Note: If your hearing instruments have been equipped with filters,
please refer to the “Earwax Management System” section.

Cleaning the Tube and Dome (for Models with Domes)
Keeping the tube and dome clean will allow them to properly send
the amplified sound from the hearing instrument into the ear. First,
remove the tube from the hearing instrument. Use a damp cloth to
clean the tube and dome on the outside. Use the black cleaning wire to
“push” any debris out of the tube. The cleaning rod should be inserted
where the tube attaches to the instrument and pushed all the way
through the tube and out through the dome.
Note: Do not submerge or rinse the tube and dome with water, as
there is a risk that a water drop may become lodged in the tube. If this
should occur, it will prevent sound coming through the tube, and may
be harmful to the instrument’s electronics.
The tube should be changed every 3–6 months or sooner if the tube
becomes stiff or brittle.
Changing the Dome
The dome should also be changed every 3–6 months or sooner if it
becomes stiff or brittle. Your hearing healthcare professional can also
change the dome for you. If you change the dome yourself, make sure
that it is securely fastened to the tube before inserting it into your ear.
Failure to change the dome in accordance with the instructions that
follow could result in an injury.
How to mount a Dome
A dome is mounted on the tube by pushing it over the grooves on
the tube.
Preparing a Tulip Dome for Insertion
The Tulip Dome must be correctly configured before insertion. The
largest of the Tulip Dome’s two leaves must be the outermost “leaf”.
Make sure the oval opening at the end of the tulip dome is in a vertical
position, thereby the larger flap should be on the top.
