risk of personal injury or property damages.
2. The use and application of the IPETRONIK product is permitted only to qualified professional
staff, as well as, only in appropriate manner and in the designated use.
3. Before using an IPETRONIK measurement system in the vehicle it has to be verified that no function
of the vehicle, which is relevant for secure operation, might be influenced:
- by the installation of the IPETRONIK measurement system in the vehicle,
- by an potential malfunction of the IPETRONIK system during the test drive.
In order to avoid possible danger or personal injury and property damages, appropriate actions are to be
taken; such actions have to bring the entire system into a secured condition (e.g. by using a system for
emergency stop, an emergency operation, monitoring of critical values).
Please check the following points to avoid errors:
- Adaption of sensors to components of the electrical system / electronics, brake system, engine and
transmission control, chassis, body.
- Tap of one or several bus systems (CAN, LIN, ETHERNET) including the required electrical
connection(s) for data acquisition.
- Communication with the vehicle’s control units (ECUs), especially with such of the brake system and/or
of the engine and transmission control (power train control system).
- Installation of components for remote data transmission (mobiles, GSM/GPRS modems, WiFi and
Bluetooth components).
The products can be operated in extended temperature ranges greater 70 ◦Cand therefore the ope-
rator has to take safety measures to avoid any skin burnings on hot surfaces while touching the
products.
4. Before directly or indirectly using the data acquired by an IPETRONIK measurement system to cali-
brate control units, please review the data regarding to plausibility.
5. With regard to the application of IPETRONIK products in vehicles during use on public roads the manu-
facturer and/or registered user of the vehicle has to ensure that all changes/modifications have no
influence concerning the license of the vehicle or its license of operation.

2 Introduction
2 Introduction
The M-THERMO 96 is a thermocouple measurement device with 96 universal inputs. The unit support the TC
types E, J, K, N, R, S, T. The measurement system meets the requirements of the aerospace industry. The
primary use case is for test bench applications.
2.1 Hardware setup
2.1.1 Ethernet Interface via IPEhub2
To use the M-THERMP 96 with an Ethernet interface to the PC the following hardware is required.
ICable 620-233.xxx
ICable 620-680.xxx
IIPEhub2 interface device for Ethernet
The following diagram visualized the hardware wiring setup to power the unit and to send data to the test
bench PC or a tablet.

2.1 Hardware setup
The following drawing shows interface cable for M-THERMO 96. It consists of 2 CAN interfaces represented
as LEMO 9-pole M-CAN connector and the second one in the SUB-D 9 format. The 2 CAN busses are
connected to the IPEhub2 which is then sending the data over Ethernet to the test bench PC.

2.1 Hardware setup
2.1.2 CAN interface
The M-THERMO 96 can also operate with an CAN interface. In this setup it is recommended to uses a 2
channel CAN card like IPEcan FD Pro. With a CAN interface, you have the ability to use it in many
combinations with other CAN based measurement modules. The configuration of the device is supported in
the IPEmotion data acquisition software together with the IPETRON-X PlugIn from release V10.00.00. The
following diagram visualizes the cabling setup with a direct connection to a CAN card.
To use the M-THERMP 96 with an CAN card interface the following hardware is required.
ICable 620-233.xxx
ICable 620-502.xxx
IM-CAN T-Junction
IIPEcan FD Pro CAN card

3 Device configuration via web interface
3 Device configuration via web interface
The intended standard use case is to use the M-THERMO 96 with an IPEhub2 over an Ethernet interface.
The configuration is done over a web interface with can be reached over the following address:
Iipe.connect.local
This web interface is a standard status interface where you have basic status information in the upper part. In
the lower pat you can define settings for the WiFi access point name (SSID) and password. Also, you can
define time zone and synchronize M-THERMO96 time stamps with your local PC time. The important button
is the Measurement View to configure the channels.

3.1 Page Configuration - All channel overview
The default view is the all channel table instrument which provides readings for each channel. In the factory
configuration the first reading in the thermocouple voltage in micro Volts and in the second channel the
resistance in mili Ohm is provided.

3.2 Chanel Configuration
3.2 Chanel Configuration
In bottom navigation bar you can switch to CONFIGURATION workspace to change channel measurement
modes, activate averaging etc.
In the CONFIGURATION workspace you have also access to device specific information like:
IDevice Type Name of the unit.
INumber The serial number printed on the name plate.
IFirmware Version of the firmware.
IHardware Version of the hardware.
ICalibration Date Date of the last calibration.
IAdjust Date Date of the last channel adjustment. Firmware updates, calibrati-
on and adjustments are provided by IPETRONIK.
ISample rate Can be configured for each block of 16 channels individually. The
sample rate can range 0.0167 up to 100 Hz.
