Please note that this product is a TOY, and cannot be used to fulfill the adult male Jewish
mitzvah of tejillin. The label on the base of each box should be left on as an extra indication
ofits tov status.
,,.\ This product should not be given to children under the age of 6, as the straps could present
{,5 a strangulation hazard if used inappropriately. The product has been designed to very closely
resemble real tefillin, however for safety and ease-of-use reasons it uses Velcro-style hook-and-
loop closures and a soft vinyl strap rather than leather.
For maximum safety we have avoided the use of a slip-knot on the hand,tefiIlin (shel yad).
For ease of use, we suggest that an adult help adjust the size of the armtefillin strap and
then have the child slip his arm out of the loop without undoing the Velcro-style closure.
The product has been designed so that it can easily be altered for Ashkenazic or Sefardic customs,
as well as for right- or left-handed boys. These instructions show how to make these adjustments,
or how to replace a strap that has been removbd. A copy of these instructions is also available on

Shel Rosh lttrls is the "head" tefillin, identified by the letter "shin" on the sides, and three

The strap for the shel rosh never needs to be removed. It
can be adjusted to fit your child's head by re-positioning
the hook-and-loop closure. After adjusting, the actual
box should be positioned by sliding it along the strap so
that it is directly above the attached closure, as per the
accompanying diagram.

strap into the opening "B", through the box, and exiting through opening 't". The fit should be
tight, so it may be easier to slightly fold the strap as it passes through. Pull end "A" through to the

Shel Yad (this is the "hand" tefillin, identified by the smooth un-marked box)
This part may be assembled differently depending on whether it is intended to be worn by a right-
handed or left-handed boy, and also depending on your preference.os Ashkenazic (wraps over the
arm, towards the body) or Sefardic (wraps over the arm, away from the body) traditions. As
shipped, it is oriented for a right-handed, Ashkenazic tradition.
The following diagrams show how to attach the strap to the shel yad for each orientation:

Ashkenazic Right-handed (tefillin is put on the LEFT arm)
Sephardic Left-handed (tefrllin is put on the RIGHT arm)

Pass the short (hook) end of the strap "A" through the box at slot "B", exiting slot "C".
For either of these two configurations:
Ashkenazic Left-handed (tefillin is put on the RIGHT arm)
Sephardic Right-handed (tefiUin is put on the LEFT arm)
Pass the short (hook) end of the strap ',A" through the box at slot "C", exiting slor "B"
In each case, pull the strap though until the box is positioned on the part of the strap between
the hook-and-loop strips.
