Connecting the Power
IMPORTANT
Do not apply power to the DVN 5000 unit until the RAID drives and the
system drive are securely inserted and latched into the proper drive slots.
Failure to follow this procedure may result in a boot disk failure. See
“Inserting the RAID Drives and System Drive in the Drive Bay” on page 4.
To recover from a boot disk failure, see “Boot Disk Failure Recovery” on
page 40.
Comply with the following requirements:
Power outlet shall be equipped with earthing (ground) protection.
The outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.
Use the appliance coupler as the disconnect device (see the illustrations in the
“Cable Connections Scheme” section starting on page 9). However,
disconnecting the power cord from the appliance coupler should only occur
when the unit power is shut down properly. See “Switching the Server On and
Off” on page 6 for information on properly turning off power to the unit.
To help prevent damage to the DVN 5000 server from power surges and
spikes, you must use a surge protector with a minimum energy rating of
1,700 Joules. If using an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
(recommended) that complies with the energy rating requirements, you do
not need to use a separate surge protector. For a surge protector, we
recommend the American Power Conversion (APC®) PRO8 Professional
SurgeArrest® model. If you are using a UPS, read the section
“Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)” on page 6 before continuing.
To connect the power:
1. Connect one end of the power cord to the appliance coupler of the server.
2. Plug in the other end of the power cord to the power outlet.
IMPORTANT
If using a UPS, refer to the device’s user documentation for proper power
connections to and from the device. See also “Uninterruptible Power
Supply (UPS)” on page 6.
WARNING: Risk of Fire or Electric Shock.
Check the power supply cord for damage before using. If damaged, do
not switch on the appliance. Replace the cord with same type and
ratings. Contact with components carrying hazardous voltage can
cause electric shock and may result in severe personal injury or death.
