INSTALLATION GUIDE
Installing and Operating the NXT-TSO-01 TSO Thermostat
Introduction
The Temperature/Setpoint/Override
(TSO) thermostat is a microcontroller-
based thermostat that consists of a space
temperature sensor, a knob to select the
setpoint, an override push button, and an
LED indicating occupancy.
This thermostat allows occupants to adjust
the setpoint and put the controller into
Override mode.

Installation
The thermostat connects to the controller
via a 2-wire (#22 AWG, single twisted pair)
cable. The NexSys thermostat communica-
tions bus carries power and communica-
tions for the TSO thermostat.
Wiring
WARNING - TO PREVENT ELECTRI-
CAL SHOCK OR DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT, YOU MUST DISCON-
NECT THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE
ELECTRONICCONTROLLER
BEFORE YOU MAKE THE WIRING
CONNECTIONS.
All wiring is low voltage and should be in
accordance with local regulations and the
National Electrical Code.
Use shielded cable only when it is required.
Most applications do not require shielding
and will benefit from unshielded cable.
When using the optional shielded cable,
ground only one end of the shield. Low
voltage control wiring should not be run in
the same conduit as line voltage wiring or
other conductors that supply highly-
inductive loads (such as contactors, coils,
motors, generators, etc.).
CAUTION - MAKE ALL CONNEC-
TIONS AND CHECK ALL CONNEC-
TIONS BEFORE APPLYING
POWER. IMPROPER WIRING MAY
CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO
THIS EQUIPMENT.

To Wire the TSO Thermostat:
1. Connect the Red wire of the thermostat’s
pigtail to the STAT + terminal of the
controller.
2. Connect the Black wire of the
thermostat’s pigtail to the STAT -
terminal of the controller.
Refer to Figure 2 below.
Mounting
Mount the thermostat where it is exposed
to normal air circulation and where it senses
the average temperature of the space being
controlled (normally about 5 feet above the
floor). Do not mount it where it could be
affected by heat or cold from windows,
pipes, doors, lamps, sunlight, outside walls,
or other sources. See Figure 3 for dimen-
sions.

To mount the sensor:
1. Install a 2” x 3” outlet box and the
thermostat wiring to the controller.
2. Pull the wiring from the outlet box
and insert it through the mounting
bracket.
3. Assemble the mounting bracket to
the outlet box with the two screws
provided.
4. Connect the two wire pigtail from the
thermostat to the wires in the wall
and secure them with wire nuts.
Obey wiring polarity (see Figure 2).
5. Push excess wire into the outlet box.
6. Snap the cover to the wall plate.
Operation
Startup
Once activated, the TSO STAT’s LED
will turn on for one second, then turn
off. After two-and-a-half seconds, it
will send the setpoint dial position to
the controller and update the LED.
If the thermostat detects a communica-
tions failure, the LED will flash rapidly
for two-and-a-half second time inter-
vals.
The thermostat samples the space
temperature every five seconds using an
on-board thermistor. If the tempera-
ture changes by more than 0.1 degree
Celsius (0.18 degrees Fahrenheit) and it
is not in Standby mode, it sends the
new temperature to the controller and
updates its LED.
Modes
The TSO thermostat has two operating
modes: User and Override.
User - In this mode, users can either
increase or decrease the setpoint. To
increase the setpoint, turn the knob
clockwise. The thermostat will send the
new dial position to the controller and
increase the setpoint.
To decrease the setpoint, turn the knob
counterclockwise. The thermostat will
send the new dial position to the
controller and decrease the setpoint.
Override - The override mode button
acts as a toggle switch. It is used only
when the building is in “unoccupied”
mode and a user who comes into the
building wishes to temporarily change
the setpoint. After a user pushes the
button, he or she may change the
setpoint for an area or office. Then
before the user leaves, he or she pushes
it again to return that area to “unoccu-
pied” mode setpoint.
