Generalitie
Explosion protected pressure switches of the HNSPX-Ex type series with
intrinsic safety « i » and b enclosures « t » control and monitor pressure process.
The pressure switches operate according to a deformable sensor (membrane or
valve). The variation of pressure leads to a deviation of the membrane (or valve)
which acts on a electrical contact.
In gas area the pressure switches HNSPX-Ex could be only fitted to equipment
certificated with intrinsic safety and could be used in explosive areas – Zone 0,
Zone 1 and Zone 2.
In dust area the ignition protection class “t” allows the use of device in Zone 20,
Zone 21, Zone 22
If this pressure transmitter is used in an explosive area, you must observe the
instructions on installation and operation of equipment in this type of area.
_______________________________________________________________________
Do not damage the sensitive elements (diaphragm or piston) of the pressure
switch!
−Do not use the device on a process fluid which could damage the pressure
switch. We would recommend you mount the device on a diaphragm seal if
available (Attention the filling liquid must be compatible with the process).
−Execution with flush membrane (separator): Do not deform the membrane.
To touch the membrane with your fingers may be enough to cause damage.
−Do not insert different objects into the outlet pressure !
−The pressure of membrane must be uniform.
−The pressure to be measured must not exceed the permissible overpressure,
even when pressure spikes.
−Spiking very high pressure can destroy the switch. Under these conditions,
we must take adequate precautionary measures (eg. Ride a damping
element).
−Do not exceed the maximum permissible fluid temperature (+85 ° C) and, if
applicable, use a cooler.
Avoid mounting close to sources of heat or
excessive sunlight to minimize the effects of condensation nocturnal.
Avoid falls and the locations where the material can undergo mechanical shock.

(Dust)
For all areas, the surface temperature of the electronic equipment shall not
increase in a way that the dust as cloud or layer can be ignited.
This is possible when the following conditions are respected :
-Dust as cloud :
For the prevention of inflammation of dust atmospheres, the maximum
temperature of the surface must be limited.
It must be less than the lower of the two values such as 2/3 on the considered
temperature auto-inflammation of dust cloud.
-Dust layer :
Surfaces on which it is not possible to avoid a dangerous incandescent dust
deposition, the surface temperature must not exceed the incandescent
temperature of 75K.
In case of upper layer to 5mm, a greater reduction of the temperature is
necessary.
If the dust is present in both the cloud and the layer, as is often the case, choose
the most unfavourable case.
Remark : for the term we use area, the casing containing electrical equipment.

5 Mounting
5.1 Safety notes
_________________________________________________________________________
The pressure switch is not in conformity with the requirement « Component
equipment with safety function » of the Directive 97/23/CE on the equipment
pressure.
In case of dangerous materials, such as oxygen, acetylene, flammable and
noxious substances, and on the refrigeration systems, tank pressure, etc…,
the regulations corresponding force must be respected.
The national and international precaution and accident prevention regulations
must be observed!
Non-observance of these regulation can cause material damage and bodily
injury!
The plant operator is responsible for the compliance with legal provisions!
Only qualified personnel may work with this device.
5.2 General
Before mounting
_________________________________________________________________________
Before mounting the pressure switch, you must return the installation to
atmospheric pressure!
The operator is responsible for the separation of zones according to the use
and the intrinsic safety of the entire system !
The pressure switch can only be used in environments where the membrane is
sufficiently chemically resistant (corrosion). Otherwise, the switch must be fitted
with a membrane separator whose material is compatible with the medium to be
controlled.
In a hazardous area which can contain dust, mounting the pressure converter
must be "protected against shock!"
It is requires that the electrical connection between pressure converter and
process connection (installation) is guaranteed.
Apart from faulty installation, incorrect settings of the switch can also affect the
proper operation of the process or cause damage.
Therefore, the setting should only be performed by qualified personnel in
accordance with the relevant safety regulations.
_________________________________________________________________________
The mounting location should be easily accessible and as close as possible to
the measurement point; it must be low in vibration.
We must respect the permissible ambient temperature (note to potential thermal
radiation).
The pressure switch can be mounted above or below the point of taking of
pressure.
The nominal position of the unit is vertical. Depending on the configuration of
the measuring point, it is possible to mount it in another position.

18
5.3 Pressure connection
Tightness
_________________________________________________________________________
Using joints and material of appropriate shape , for eg. according to
EN 837 and DIN 16258 !
After the establishment of the connection to the process, the tightness must be
checked!
If the pressure switch is screwed into a tapped orifice, must to use the total
length of the filetage of pressure converter must be used.
_________________________________________________________________________
The couple depends on the size, material and shape of the seal used and of
taking pressure of the pressure converter.
Do not make use of the casing of a pressure switch in order execute a tightening
the process connection but use a key on the flat. (opening of key : 17 mm)

19
6 Installation
6.1 Electrical connection
_________________________________________________________________________
For electrical connection as well as for the choice of cable, you must respect the
regulations in force :
-Connect the device to the ground terminal on the ground, with the help of a
ground terminal to the protective conductor. The conductor must have the
same section as the supply lines.
-Put the lines of grounded star, to a point of common ground which is
connected to the supply voltage by the protective conductor.
-Do not put lines grounding a device to another.
The electrical connection must only be carried out by qualified personnel!
The power supply must be intrinsically safe:
In a normal situation and in case of failure due to a short circuit, no flammable
spark occurs or when devices do not heat at the surface beyond the class
defined temperature (see also EN 60079-11).
To make an electric circuit can be defined as intrinsically safe all devices that
are in the circuit must be designed as intrinsically safe and certified. Besides it
has to be checked whether the interconnection of intrinsically safe devices also
meets the requirements of an electrical circuit intrinsically safe.
Interconnection itself does not guarantee a intrinsically safe circuit.
A calculation of the intrinsic safety loop must be made.
To prove the intrinsic safety, electrical limits must conform to certificates for
equipment.
Conditions are verified by comparing the permissible limits of electrical
equipment :

Generals - Pass the cable essential through a screw ATEX.
remark - 3 positions, tapped M20x150, for the PE ATEX are available. The positions

6.2 Cabling
Passage Unless specificaly requested, the pressure switch HSNPX-Ex is delivered with
the cable the screw M20x150 ATEX (cable of Ø6 to 12 mm) polyamide and joint as well as
two cap M20x150 polyamide and joints.
Once the yarn connected to the terminal block, the PE tightens the cable to
prevent moisture penetration.
_________________________________________________________________________
Electrical Unscrew the 4 cover screws to open the pressure switch.
connection Each pressure switch contact is fitted with a removable ATEX 3 contact with
cache.
Always replace the cover on the terminal before closing the lid switch.
When closing the case, check whether the tightness in the lid is in good
condition.
Ensure a progressive clamping of the 4 screws to a homogeneous closure of the
clamp on the housing cover.
