Introduction
Welcome to the Worship Center Broadcast System (WCBS). The primary function of the WCBS is to
connect computers and video devices (VCR, Camera, DVD, Satellite, etc.) to viewing screens. The
viewing screens can be LCD projectors, CRT monitors, LCD panels, and other compatible VGA devices.
The typical installation includes the Video Genie DS1 matrix switcher that combines a video scaler
(converts Video signals to high resolution VGA signals), a video switch (instantly switches between several
VGA and Video signals), and a CAT5e based audio/video distribution system (inexpensive industry
standard cabling).
The WCBS is a hardware-based audio/video switching system that can be installed with any computer
system using VGA compatible graphics (this includes IBM compatible PC’s and Macintosh PC’s running
any operating system). The WCBS requires you to install a small Receiver Box adjacent to every viewing
screen that will be connected to the system.
Your choice of the WCBS will give you many benefits:
•Easy to use system –a simple click of the mouse performs most functions.
•Fast Switching -Eliminates the unwanted delay seen switching from Video Mode to VGA mode
•Easy Expansion –You can use WCBS to transmit the video and audio to an unlimited number of
viewing screens.
•Enhanced Functionality –The WCBS can be used for more sophisticated functions such as
Multicasting (showing different video signals to different groups)
One of the greatest strengths of the WCBS is realized because the system is entirely hardware based. You
can install your WCBS system with complete confidence that it will in no way impact your software or
system performance. This is possible because WCBS requires no software, no drivers, no memory, and no
interrupts.
WCBS Functions
The easy to use functions of the WCBS are quite sophisticated, allowing the owner to apply the most
effective audio/video distribution strategies possible.
•Darken All Screens/Projectors
•Darken Group Screens/Projectors
•Broadcast Audio/Video to All
•Broadcast Audio/Video to Group
•Independent Rear Projector Output
•Matrix output (audio/video are independent)
•Video Genie™ DS1 supports full motion
full screen video (60 fps) from 4 sources
•Support for unlimited attached devices
•Infrared Remote Control learning (DS1)
•Software based RS232 Remote Control
•All functions delivered over CAT5e cable

Installation Procedure
The installation of the WCBS is quite easy and can be summarized as follows:
1. Install a Receiver Box at each viewing device (page 5)
2. Connect all Receiver Boxes devices to the Video Genie Transmitter (page 6)
3. Install Video Genie™
Detailed instructions for each step are provided on the following pages.
Receiver Box Installation
Use the VBS-PTP-108B Receiver Box for Projectors and Stand Alone Monitors installed within 60 Meters
(200’) of the Video Genie. The VBS -PTP-108B is available in 6 models, tuned with Video Gain settings
for UTP/STP cables in 10M increments. Choose the model that is closest to the installed cable distance.
Use the VBS-PTP-300M Receiver Box for cable distances between 200’ and 1,000’. The VBS -PTP-300M
has fine tuning knobs to adjust the gain/focus for optimal image outputs.
Use the VBS-ST-1082B Dual Monitor Receiver for locations with multiple monitors. This device also has
the option to display a local VGA source when the WCBS transmitter is in break mode (i.e. rolling
announcements in the Narthex or Hallway when not showing a worship service)
Installation of the VBS-PTP-108B Receiver Box should be performed as follows:
1. Turn off the power to the projector or monitor.
2. Locate the VBS-PTP-108B Receiver Box kit for the viewing device. Each VBS-PTP-108B Receiver
Box kit includes the following items:
Receiver Box
AC Adapter
1.2M VGA Cable
3. Use the VGA Cable to connect the computer monitor or projector to
the VGA port labeled monitor. Longer VGA cables can be used to
accommodate conduits and other cosmetic connections.
4. If you are going to broadcast sounds to this position, you can use a
3.5mm stereo mini-plug type cable to connect the speakers or
headphones from the display station to the green 3 audio out port on the
Receiver Box.
5. If you are installing the VBS-ST-1082B receiver you can
connect the VGA Output of the announcements PC to the port
labeled VGA. This VGA signal will be displayed on the
attached monitor/projector when the WCBS is not controlling
the output device.

Connect Receivers to the Video Genie™ Bus Ports
The Video Genie™ has 8 UTP/STP Bus Ports. You can connect one VBS-PTP receiver to each port with a
single twisted pair cable. You can attach multiple VBS-ST dual monitor receivers to each bus port in a
daisy-chain. When installing multiple receivers on a best port we suggest that you follow these guidelines
for the best quality audio/video transmissions:
•Keep the CAT5e cable length from the Video Genie™ to the first receiver box under 50 Meters.
•Keep the CAT5e cable distance between any two receiver boxes in a chain under 25 Meters.
•Do not connect more than 10 receiver stations in a single chain.
•Try to keep the total CAT5e cable length out of any booster port under 100 Meters.
•Whenever possible, use the shortest possible cable lengths.
•Install a Blue Terminator plug in the open bus port at the end of a receiver daisy-chain.
While it is certainly possible to achieve acceptable results outside of these guidelines, keep in mind
that the local environmental conditions (type of devices, amount of RFI noise, dirty power, defective
lighting ballasts, etc.) will dictate the maximum distance that can be supported.
Video Genie™ DS1 Hardware Installation and Configuration
The Video Genie™ DS1 Scaler allows the WCBS Operator to connect up to 4 standard Video devices plus
2 VGA devices to the WCBS. For example, a VCR, DVD Player, Satellite Dish, and a Video Camera
could all be connected to the WCBS using one Video Genie™ Scaler.
1. Connect the Worship Center PC VGA Adapter to the PC1 VGA Port of the Video Genie™ Scaler.
2. Connect the MONITOR Port of the Video Genie™ Scaler to the VGA Monitor in the Control Booth.
3. Connect the PC1-IN Port of the Video Genie™ Scaler to the SOUND-OUT port of the Worship Center
PC Sound Card
4. If a second VGA signal is desired (i.e. PC-In-The-Pulpit), connect that device to the VGA-2 Port of the
Video Genie™.
5. Connect the PROJECTOR Port of the Video Genie™ to the “rear of house” projector. If you are not
using a rear of house projector you may want to use this for a second VGA Monitor in the Control
Booth, allowing the operator to preview multiple items at the same time.
6. Connect the PC OUT Stereo Out port of the Video Genie™ Scaler to the operators Headphones or
Speakers
7. Connect up to 4 Video Devices to the Video Genie™ Scaler using standard video cables.
8. Optional: Connect a composite video monitor to the A/V OUT port for A/V preview functions.

Page 7of 28
9. Connect the green 3.5mm stereo AMP OUT port of the Video Genie™ to the house Audio Amplifier if
desired (unbalanced signal cable). This will let you route the A/V devices sound signals back to the
house sound system using the audio matrix functions.
10. Connect the IR Blaster Extension Cables to the IR OUT ports on the front and route the transmitters to
the IR EYE location of the devices to be controlled by the Video Genie™.
11. Connect the single IR Learning Eye to the IR IN PORT on the front of the Video Genie™.
12. If you are using the Windows GUI to control the system, connect the control PC COM port to the DB9
port on the front of the Video Genie™ marked CONTROL.
13. If you are using the Total Control Console to control the system, connect the CONSOLE to the
PANEL port on the Video Genie™ with an RJ11 cable.
14. If you want the option to simultaneously use both control systems (Windows GUI and Console), you
will need to use the optional RS232 BRIDGE device (contact Just Add Power support for details).
15. Connect the twisted pair BUS ports to the Receiver Boxes. Do not turn on the Video Genie™ or
Receiver Boxes until the CAT5e Cables have been connected to all of the receivers to prevent
accidental electrical surges.
16. Install UTP Terminator plugs in any unused BUS ports. Be sure to check the Video Genie™ UTP
ports and all of the Receiver Box chains UTP ports.
17. Connect the Power Cord to an appropriate electrical outlet.
18. Optional: Plug the guiding Light Keyboard
into the control PC using a USB port, or the
PS/2 adapter.
19. Power on all devices and proceed with the
software installation for Windows GUI
control of the system.
20. Optional: Connect a microphone to the
MIC port if you want to be able to talk to the remote viewing locations with a microphone in the booth.

3 of 3 Customize the Worship Center Broadcast System Graphical User Interface
The WCBS has several options for customization. The least you should do is make sure the COM port
settings are set to match the RS232 port. Beyond that, you can also change the names of all the buttons to
match the attached devices.
1. Start the WCBS GUI. Locate the shortcut
icon on the desktop and
double click it to start the
GUI. You can also start the
GUI by locating the WCBS in the Programs
Menu.
NOTE: If the control PC is dedicated to the
Worship Center, it is a good idea to copy
this shortcut into the STARTUP folder, as
this will activate the WCBS every time the
computer is turned on.
2. The first time you start the program you will
be prompted to choose the COM port on the
Worship PC being used to control the
system. Don’t “guess” this, you should be
certain of the COM port before using the
software to control the system.
3. The WCBS GUI will appear, and the default
settings will be activated –The screens will
go “dark”, PC1 will appear on Monitor 1,
AV1 will be the active AV Source.
4. Click on the “Setu p” button to access the
service menu. An input box will appear and
you will be prompted to enter the service
password. The service password is “ecivres” (that’s “service”
spelled backwards! The password prompt is only required once
per active session. If you close the WCBS application, you will
be prompted for the password the next time you click on Setup.
5. The Service Options menu will appear. You can choose any of
the options presented:
Change Serial Port
You must make sure the correct serial port is being used. This setting must be confirmed
before you can perform any of the following functions.
Disable or Enable Hotkeys
If you are using the Guiding Light™ Keyboard (or any other PC keyboard) to control the
system with the Hotkeys program, you should enable this function. Otherwise disable
hotkeys to cut down on the PC overhead associated with the system.

Change Messages
The Change Language function in Advanced Setup can be used to customize the WCBS program for use in
almost any location. When you choose this option, you are presented a series of 3 screens that list all of the
messages (approximate 120 messages) used in the Windows interface. On the each screen you will see the
following information:
The first two columns are
“fixed” data t hat cannot be
changed. The third column
(blue text) can be replaced
with any text you desire. It
should be noted that some
fields are limited in length
on the Control PC. For
example, messages in the
yellow feedback area
should be kept under 25
characters. Other fields,
such as menu entries, can
be up to 80 characters long.
After you finish changing
the messages on a screen,
you should click the right
arrow to go to the next
screen. On page 2 you can
choose the right arrow to
go to the next screen, and
the left arrow to go the
previous screen. On page 3, you can choose a left arrow to go back to page 2, or the Language Save button
to save your changes.
NOTE: It may be helpful to rename the AV devices to match the equipment. For example you could
rename “AV1 –F1” to “Camera 1 –F1”. Every message on the screen can be customized to match the
customer installation.
Message Save
When you click on the Message
Save button, you will see several options, including a
Save/Restore routine. There is one other detail about
Alternate Messages that you may need to know. At
this time, the language files are limited to Latin
characters. Users with a need for alternate character
sets should send a message to Just Add Power support.
The unique requirements for non-Latin characters
usually require special treatment.
Change Delay Timer
The Delay Timer settings should only be changed when Just Add Power support has identified a problem
with screen transitions on the customer projection system. This will give a longer black screen time
between transitions.

IR Learning Mode
Use this option to “teach” your Video Genie DS1 up to 48 different IR commands. The process is simple,
but it must be followed in the exact order specified below. The first prompt you will see is the following
message in the Status Box:
At the same time there will be a message box prompting you for
the next step. First click on OK in the message box.
After you click OK, the Status box will prompt you to click on
the IR Button you want to learn:
To the right side of the WCBS GUI you will see the IR Control
Panel (you may have to expand the GUI window to see this
panel). Click on one of the 12 buttons that you want to teach the
system. It should be noted that the button Icon does not have to
match the function you are teaching the system. The icons are
provided as a suggestion for organization, but they don’t have
any real impact on what the system does. At the same time, you
should be aware that the IR output follows the 4 AV sources.
When you teach the system the “play” command for AV1, that
IR signal is only broadcast out of the AV1 IR Blaster port.
Now you are ready to click
on the AV Source. Simply
click on AV1, AV2, AV3, or
AV4 on the left side of the
WCBS Windows GUI. You
must first click on “OK”, and
then you can indicate the AV Source.
The next step is when you teach the system. First
click OK on this prompt, then the status box will
flash a message advising you to press the button on
the remote control, while aiming it at the learning
eye of the Video Genie.
After about 5 seconds the flashing will stop, and the command will
have been learned by the system. Keep repeating this process to learn
additional commands, or click on RESET to get out of IR Learning
Mode.
