,Any LPgas supplycylinderusedwith this grill
mustbeapproximately12inchesdiameterand
18incheshigh. Themaximumfuelcapacityis
20poundsof propane.
• Themaximumweightof aproperlyfilled
cylinderwillbeapproximately38 pounds(47.7
Ibs.nominalwatercapacity).
•The LPcylindermusthavea shut-offvalve
terminatingin a Type1 LPgascylindervalve
outlet. (Seeitem[F],Fig. 11).
• A Type1compatiblecylinderwith a Type1
cylindervalvehasaback-checkvalvewhich
doesnotpermitgasflow,untilapositiveseal
hasbeenobtained.
• The LPcylindermusthaveaUL listedoverfill
protectiondevice(O.P.D.).

• Thecylindermust bearrangedfor vapor
withdrawal. Itmustalsoincludea collarto
protectthe cylindervalve. A safetyrelief device
havingdirectcommunicationwiththe vapor

overfilledor overheated,conditionswhichcould
resultin fireor explosion.
• All LPgascylindersusedwiththis appliance

the U. S.DepartmentofTransportation(DOT)

Take these instructions to the LP gas dealer.
• Whenusing cylinderexchange:Ifyourgrill is
equippedwith e Type1 cylinder,besurethe
exchangedcylinderis aType1 cylinder,as a
510 POLcylinderwill notfit Type1regulator.
• This tank iseasilyfilledwith a standard
CGA510POLfilling connection.(Fig,14)
•Newcylindersmustbe purgedbeforefilling.
TellyourLPGasdealerif yourcylinderisnew
and hasnot beenpreviouslyfilled.
TheLPGascylinderhasaType1 cylinder
valvewith a back-cbeckmodulein itsoutlet
whichwill not permitgasto flowuntilan
evacuationdeviceis installed.Topurgethe
LPGascylinder,the back-checkmodulemust
beopenedwith an evacuationdevice.

Purgingand fillingof LPGascylindersmustbe
performedby personnelwhohavebeen
thoroughlytrainedin acceptedLPGasindustry
procedures. Failuretofollowthis instruction
may resultin explosion,fire, severepersonal
injury,or death.
A. Hoseendvalvewitha bleedpert(Fig. 14):
Purgingcanbe accomplishedusing a hoseend
valvecontainingableedportwhichalsoallows
forevacuationwithoutthe useofan adapter.
B. Hoseendvalvewithouta bleedport:
Whenahoseend valvedoesnot havea bleed
port,aseparatedevicemustbe usedfor
evacuation.
C. PurgingusingaType1 connection(Fig. 15):
LPGascylinderevacuationcan be
accomplishedduringeachpurgingby usinga
Type1connection.TheTypeI valveoutlethas
anexternal1 5/16"ACMErighthandthread
whichwillacceptthis connection.
IH- Gas Supply System Safety
Features I
The LPgascylinderprovidedwiththis grill(on
selectedmodelsonly)is fittedwith an Overfill
ProtectionDevice(O.P.D.). Toinsurethatyou
retainthissafetydeviceequippedcylinder,
take ittoan LPgasservicestationforfilling,
or whenexchangingyour cylinderat a
cylinderexchangestation,requestthatyour
replacementcylinderbefitted with theO.P.D,
feature,
G-Purging and Evacuation
Devices for LP Gas Cylinders
with Type 1 Cylinder Valves,
,_ CAUTION
Afterpurgingor fillingan LPGascylinder,Do
NotinsertaPOLplugintothe valveoutlet.
Insertionofthe plugwill preventthe back-check
fromclosing.UseONLYthe providedcap and
strapattachedtothe outlet. Closethecylinder
valveknobbeforereturningthecylinderto the
customer.

Yournewgasgrillisequipped with a Type1
connectiondevicewhich has3 safetyfeatures:

1. Proofofgas sealbetweenthe connectorand
the cylinderbeforegasflow takesplace.
2. Afiow limitingdevicedesignedto limitthe flow
ofgas in theeventof a regulatoror hose
failure.
3. Theconnectionhasathermalshut-offwhichwill
stoptheflow ofgas ifthe connectionrea_es a
certaintemperature.
Yournewgasgrillisalsoequipped(onselected
modelsonly)withan O.P.D.inthe gascylinder
whichgreatlyreducesthe chanceof accidentally
overfillingthe cylinder.
SpecialnoteconceringLPGas Cylinders:
Itisimportanttoinsurethatyournewgas cylinder
is propertypurgedbeforeit isfilled. Pleaseinform
yourpropanegasdealerthat thisis a new
cylinderand needsto beproperlypurgedbefore
beingfilled.
SpecialnoteconcedngTypeI connecUon
devices'.If you noticeve_ smal_flamesonthe
burner(s),you mayhaveaccidentallyactivated
theflow limitingdevicein theType1connection
device. Besidesa ruptureinthe gashose,the
flow limitingdevicemayactivatefor one ofthe
twofollowingreasons:
1. Openingthe burnercontrolknobsbefore
openingthe cylindervalve.
Solution: Shutthe burnercontrolknobsand
the LPcylindervalveoffand openin the proper
order:
a). Openthe LP cylinderval'_efirst,then
b). Openthe burnercontrolknoband ignitethe
burneraccordingto theinstructionsin this
manuatforyourgrill
Ifyou stillhavea problem,thenthere maybe
air in thecylinderdueto improperpurging.
2.The LPcylinderwasnotproperlypurged
beforeit wasfilled.
Solution: SeeyourLPgassupplier.

turningthe cylinderknobclockwisetoafull

2. Checkthat allthe grill burnerknobsarein the
offposition.
3. Removethe protectivecapsfrom thecylinder
valveandcouplingnut. Note:Thecouplingnut
connectstothe largeoutsidethreadsonthe
valveoutlet.
4. Hold the regulatorin one handand insertthe
nippleintothe valveoutlet. Besurethe nipple
iscenteredin the valveoutlet.Handtightenthe
couplingnut,takingcarenottocross-threedthe
connection.
5. Turnthe couplingnutclockwise;tightento a full
stop. Ifyoucannotcompletethefinal
connection,disconnecttheregulatorandrepeat
step4. If youarestillunabletocompletethe
connection,Do Not usethisvalveandregulator!
6. Checkthatthe hosehas nokinksor sharp
bendsand clearsareasthatwill becomehot
during use. Neverputstrainonthe hosewhere
itjoinsafitting.
7. BEFORElightinggrill,chockall connectionsfor
leaksusingthe procedureas shownin Fig. 17.

positiveconnectionhas beenmade.
NOTE:Thecylindercontrolvalvemustbe
turnedoft beforeanyconnectionis madeor
removed.
2.Thesystemhasa thermalelementthatwill shut
offtheflow of gasin the eventofa fire.
3.Thesystemhasa flow limitingdevicewhich,
when activated,will limit theflow of gas to 10
cubicfeetperhour.

connection.

• ConsultyourLPgasdealerif youthinkthe
regulatoris notworkingproperly.

replacingthe LPgascylinder,insurethat the
gassupplyhoseis freeofkinks and/ordamage
and is atleast3" awayfromhot surfacessuch
asthe grillcasting.

How to Check for Leaks
1.Createasoapysolutionofequalpartsmild
liquiddishwashingdetergentandwater.

The IgniterSystemconsistsofa gascollector,

secondelectrodewithwire). Gasaccumulatingin
thegascollectoris ignitedbyanelectricspark
generatedwhenthe igniterunitis activated. The
sparkgap isautomaticallysetwhen theelectrode
is installed.Theigniterwireshouldbe kept a
minimumof 3" belowthe grillbottomsothatthe
heatwon'tdamagethewire.
TestingThe IgniterSystem:
