• SmartTips are uniquely designed. If a tip does not fit in the appropriate
socket, this indicates that a mismatch has occurred. Please refer to the
SmartTip compati ility chart at www kensington com to select the correct
tip for your digital device.
Do not force the SmartTip into your digital device, it can damage the Adapter and
the digital device
• Do not open the Adapter or make any attempt to disassem le or modify it.

Your new Kensington 70 Watt Universal DC Power Adapter is a highly
efficient, one-adapter power solution for your digital devices. With the Adapter,
you have the flexi ility of powering and charging your digital device from a
cigarette lighter or an airline Empower®outlet.
The Adapter powers and charges oth the newest note ooks and older
legacy note ooks.
The Adapter delivers the correct amount of power to each digital device through
a patented, interchangea le tip called SmartTip.™SmartTips are required and sold
separately. See www kensington com for more information on which SmartTips
are needed for your digital devices. Purchasing additional SmartTips allow you to
power and charge your digital devices such as note ooks, iPods, MP3 music
players, cell phones, DVD players, PDAs, and etc.
To simultaneously power and charge your note ook and other digital devices
use our Dual Charging Ca le for Kensington Universal Power Adapters—
sold separately.

• In order to disperse the heat generated while operating your Adapter, keep it
well ventilated. While in use, maintain several inches around the top and
sides of the Adapter. Never operate your Adapter inside a closed or confined
space such as a glove compartment, console, or in the airline seat pocket.
• When operating your Adapter, regularly check that the input and output
power ca les are firmly connected. Loose power ca les can generate harmful
heat which can damage your Adapter or mo ile electronic digital device.
• Avoid operating your Adapter near a heat source, heat vent, or in direct
sunlight. Your Adapter should e used in temperatures etween 50–80°F.
• Do not operate your Adapter near flamma le materials or any locations
which can accumulate flamma le fumes.
• If you are running your vehicle’s engine while stationary to power your
mo ile electronic digital device that you have connected to your Adapter, do
so only in a well ventilated area, away from other enclosed areas. Automotive
vehicles emit car on monoxide which can cause death if the vehicle’s engine
is running in a garage or enclosed area, or near other enclosed areas.
• Keep your Adapter dry. Do not expose the Adapter to water, rain, or snow; if it
gets wet or is exposed to moisture, wipe it dry immediately.
• If damage or wear to any component of your Adapter is o served, do not use
your Adapter and never attempt to repair it yourself. Return it to the place of
purchase or have it repaired y a qualified technician.
• Do not modify or tamper with your Adapter’s external or internal compo-
nents. Doing so could result in serious or fatal injury or property damage.
It may also invalidate your Adapter’s warranty.
General: Safety Information

• Your Adapter is not a toy. Keep it away from children. Make sure that all
persons who operate your Adapter read and follow this User Manual.
• Your Adapter should only e used with Kensington approved accessories.
Using your Adapter with non-approved accessories may result in serious or
fatal injury or property damage.
• Never use your Adapter with a multi-output cigarette plug splitter or exten-
der ca le. These devices can cause your Adapter’s cigarette input ca le to
ecome very hot and may result in serious or fatal injury or property damage.
• Never attempt to use your Adapter to power any device that require more
than 70 Watts of peak input power.
• Your Adapter is suita le only for use with mo ile electronic digital devices.
Using your Adapter with other electronic devices may result in serious or
fatal injury or property damage.
• To avoid potential property damage, disconnect input power to your Adapter
when it is not in use. Do not leave your Adapter or any device operating
unattended in a vehicle.
• Your Adapter may ecome hot during operation. To prevent serious or fatal
injury or property damage provide adequate ventilation and refrain from
placing items on or around your Adapter during operation.

This Adapter has a shorter input ca le that connects to a cigarette lighter
socket. The longer ca le connects to your digital device.
Using your Adapter
Once connected, your attery will automatically charge regardless of whether
your digital device is turned on or off.
NOTE: We recommend that you use the Adapter only with batteries (for your
notebook and digital device) that meet or exceed the original manufacture’s
specifications
CAUTION: Like the power adapter that originally came with your digital device, the
Adapter may get warm to the touch during use This is normal Avoid placing the
Adapter in direct sunlight or next to heat sensitive materials

Getting Connected
1. Connect the correct SmartTip to the Adapter output cord.
2. Insert the Adapter output cord into the device’s power socket.
3. Follow the instructions on the following pages to connect to a cigarette
lighter or an airline Empower outlet.
Purchasing the Proper SmartTip for your Digital Device
Make sure you purchase the right SmartTip for your digital device y going to
www kensington com or your closest retail store.
WARNING: Never use a SmartTip that is not compatible with the device you
are powering Adapter SmartTips are uniquely designed If a SmartTip does not
fit into your notebook or mobile electronic digital device, this indicates that you
are using the wrong tip Please refer to the SmartTips compatibility chart at
www.kensington.com to select the correct tip for your notebook or mobile
electronic digital device Forcing a SmartTip into your notebook or mobile
electronic digital device can result in property damage to your Adapter, notebook
or mobile electronic digital device
After you have purchased the SmartTip that matches your digital device you’re
ready to e connected.
Your SmartTips and Adapter power cords are color coded for your convenience.
The following indicate the product category y color:
Green = Note ooks (high-power)
Yellow = Entertainment devices such as iPods, MP3 music players, and
porta le DVDs (mid-power)
Blue = PDAs, porta le gaming devices, cell phones, cameras, and
camcorders (low-power)

NOTE: Using a dirty cigarette socket or auto connector might cause your vehicle’s
battery to discharge a lower voltage incapable of powering your Adapter If your
Adapter does not turn on, its status light does not glow green, unplug it from the
cigarette lighter socket and make sure both the socket and auto connector are clean
and dry before reconnecting
NOTE: When your vehicle’s engine is off, most vehicle batteries will provide ample
power supply to your Adapter for one to two hours The actual length of time is a
function of several variables which include the age and condition of the vehicle’s
battery, and the power demand being placed on the vehicle’s battery by the digital
device that is being powered
Auto Connection
The Adapter’s auto connector can e used in any vehicle with a 12V DC ciga-
rette lighter socket, such as a car, truck, oat, or an airplane equipped with this
type of power socket. Make sure oth the auto connector and the cigarette
lighter socket are clean and dry.
WARNING: Never jump start your vehicle with your Adapter connected to the
vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket Many jump start systems use extremely high
voltages that can damage your Adapter circuitry
1. Remove the vehicle’s cigarette lighter from its socket.
WARNING: A cigarette lighter could be hot and burn your skin or flammable
materials Allow the lighter to cool completely before storing it
2. Insert your Adapter’s auto connector into the cigarette lighter socket.
3. If power to the cigarette lighter socket is not already on, remove the Adapter
from the socket and start the vehicle’s engine. Then repeat step 2. The
Adapter’s status light glows green when powered.
4. Connect the appropriate SmartTip to the Adapter output ca le and plug it
into your digital device.
The digital device’s attery will start to charge. Turn on and use your
digital device.

Air Connection
If the airline that you are traveling on provides a compati le airline in-seat
power source you can use your Adapter to power your note ook or mo ile
electronic digital devices.
1. Remove the cigarette lighter connector to reveal the airline Empower
connector: hold the ta at the ase of the connectors to slide the cigarette
lighter connector off.
2. Insert the Adapter’s Empower connector into the in-seat power socket,
usually found on the arm of your seat or under the seat. The Adapter’s
status light glows green when powered.
3. Connect the appropriate SmartTip to the Adapter output ca le and plug it
into the digital device.
The digital device’s attery will start to charge. Turn on and use your
digital device, per airline guidelines.

1-Year Limited Warranty
KENSINGTON TECHNOLOGY GROUP (“KENSINGTON”) warrants the PRODUCT 38006 DC
Power Adapter against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service
for one year from the original date of purchase. KENSINGTON, at its option, shall repair or
replace the defective unit covered y this warranty. Please retain the dated sales receipt as
evidence of the date of purchase. You will need it for any warranty service. In order to keep
this warranty in effect, the product must have een handled and used as prescri ed in the
instructions accompanying this warranty. This warranty does not cover any damage due to
accident, misuse, a use, or negligence.
DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
The limited warranty descri ed herein is your sole remedy. To the extent permitted y law,
Kensington disclaims all other implied or express warranties of merchanta ility and/or
fitness for a particular purpose.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

purpose, in no event will Kensington’s entire lia ility exceed the purchase price of this
