Kenwo o d Audio -Video Receiver. This manual co vers three
mo dels.
The VR-5900 o ffers 3 kinds o f 5.1-channel digital deco d-
ing:
• Do lby Digital, fo r the hundreds o f currently availab le
Do lby D igital DVDs and LaserDiscs.
• DTS, a well-established multichannel fo rm at in m ovie
theaters, is available fo r ho me theater o n LaserD isc and
DVD.
• MPEG, a well-established multichannel fo rmat in m ovie
theaters, is available fo r ho me theater o n LaserD isc and
DVD.
The VR-5900 also o ffers 2 kinds o f 6.1-channel digital de-
co ding:
• THX SURROUND EX repro duces 6.1-channel signals by
perfo rm ing matrix enco ding o f the Surro und Back sig-
nal into a surro und channel, creating a 6.1-channel sur-
ro und enviro nment featuring even mo re excellent aco us-
tic field repro ductio n than the 5.1-channel surro und
audio .
• DTS-ES also creates a 6.1-channel surro und enviro nment
by adding the surro und back signals. The VR-5900 can
handle bo th DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 featuring reco rding o f
all channels in the digital discrete fo rm at and DTS-ES
Matrix 6.1 featuring m atrix enco ding.
In additio n, the VR-5900 o ffers the fo llo wing surro und
features.
• DTS-NEO:6: This co nverts 2-channel signals into 6.1-
channel signals by means o f a high-accuracy digital
matrix deco der.
• Do lby Pro Lo gic II: This is advanced versio n o f Do lby
Pro Lo gic and features impro ved audio quality.
• THX Ultra: This corrects signals in o rder to repro duce a
similar aco ustic field to mo vie theaters in ho m e use.

D.R.I.V.E. circuit: This is a KENWOO D o riginal techno lo gy
fo r repro ducing signals with high reso lutio n by instant
switching o f the internal filters acco rding to the input sig-
nal. The VR-5900 inco rpo rate a high performance DSP to
pro vide very high reso lutio n fro m a 32-bit DRIVE III cir-
cuit, achieving stereo audio repro ductio n with the best
quality ever reached.
HDCD®: This is a new fo rmat o f high-reso lutio n reco rding.
The VR-5900 is capable o f repro ducing CDs reco rded in the
HDCD fo rm at with high reso lutio n and wide dynam ic
range.
Use it to co nnect all yo ur current audio and video co m-
po nents—the VR-5900 has a variety o f co nnectio n jacks so
yo u can custo mize yo ur entertainm ent setup.
It also includes Kenwo o d’s remarkable Po werTo uch LCD
rem o te— a graphical user interface witho ut having to use
yo ur TV!
O ther advanced features include 6 S-Video inputs and an
o ptical and co axial digital o utputs fo r digital dubbing to
MiniDisc o r CD-R. Fo r a match made in “dual-ro o m
heaven,” get the CD-3280M o r CD-2280M changer.
