Installation
TheKicker KM subwoofer is designed to beextremely versatile. TheKM subwoofer excels in asealed
orvented box, and it surpasses thecompetitiononan infinite baffle (free-air) installation.
InfiniteBaffleMounting
Theinfinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes thestorage spaceof most boats. Use caution
when mounting speakers through any panel of theboat. Please beaware of wiring harnesses, springs,
hinges, and folding seat mechanismsthat may interfere with theoperationof theboat orspeaker
system. Mark thepanel forthehole cut-outdiameter of thesubwoofer and cutthehole. See Figure 3.

To optimizetheinfinite baffle installation, prevent therear sound waves (generated from theback of the
subwoofer cone) from entering thepassenger area of theboat. Gapsorholes in thestorage spacemay
befilled with silicone.
SealedEnclosureApplications
TheKM subwoofer generates more sound pressure than competing marine subwoofers onthemarket
and excels when used in therecommended sealed boxes. These sealed enclosure designs givethe
smoothest response with increased energy at thelowest frequencies, 20 to 30Hz. These designs
deliver massiveamounts of highly-accurate bass and can bedriven with punishing levels of amplifier
power.
TheKM subwoofer high performancesuspensionsystem can operate in alarger sealed enclosure. This
maximum enclosure volumeapplicationis ideal forSQ (ultra sound quality) installations. TheSQ
enclosure generates avery flat response curveand superbly extendsthesubbass response.
KM subwoofers perform well in any sizesealed enclosure between theCompactand SQ volume
recommendations. These systemswill exhibit benefits of both designs: Compactproduces high-impact
bass, and SQ generates lowbass frequency protraction. Overall, thesystem will sound more likethe
recommended enclosure design it is closest to in enclosure volume. These enclosure recommendations
havebeen calculated with theairspaceinsidetheenclosure and includethedisplacement of thewoofer.

VentedEnclosureApplications
Ported KM Subwoofers? Absolutely...and with avengeance! These enclosures incorporate massive
slot-loaded (rectangular) ports with ultra lowair velocity forground pounding street bass that will make
your“skin bounceonyourbones!”
These boxes are theenclosure of choiceforoutrageousstreet bass and high performanceSPL
contests. If spaceis notaproblem and you want to get themost from yourKM subwoofer, try one of
these ported designs. You will notbedisappointed.
Theported Compactdesign increases bass efficiency and fits in many space-limited applications.
Although it is thesmallest recommended ported enclosure, theoutputfrom 30to 80Hz will be
considerably higher than that of any sealed box. TheSPL / Deep Bass ported design has even more
outputin this crucial frequency band.
TheSPL / Deep Bass is thelargest and most efficient enclosure design. TheSPL / Deep Bass delivers
thesonic outputneeded to win SPL contests and it produces bass notes “all theway down to the
cella”. This design turns headsand jump starts yourheart.
ANote on PowerHandlingCapacity
KM subwoofers will handle massiveamounts of power in any of therecommended enclosures,
minimum ormaximum. Thesmaller enclosures are best foruse in limited-spaceapplications.
Thelarger recommended enclosures will yield slightly more bass at thelowest frequencies.

BoxBuildingNotes
Use 3/4” (1.9cm) orthicker Marine GradePlywood and seal thejoints with silicone. Use the“template”
insideyourKM subwoofer’sshipping cartonto mark themounting hole, then cutdirectly ontheline.
These designs need internal bracing. Add triangular bracing between each of thelarger unsupported
panels. See Figure 5.
All thecubic feet (L) measurements in this manual includethedisplacement of thewoofer. Forthe
vented enclosures thedisplacement of theport must becalculated and added to theinternal volumeof
thefinal design. Use theouter dimensions of theport and multiply “X x Y x Z”, convert to cubic feet, for
example theKM10vented compactdesign’sexternal port dimensions are, using 3/4” (1.9cm) MDF:
[ (1.5” + 1.5” total MDF wall thickness) x (10.5” + 1.5” total MDF wall thickness) x 14.5”] x (1 ft3/ 1728
in3) = .30ft3, and add this number to theinternal volumeof theenclosure, KM10’s1.25 ft3+ .30ft3=
1.55 ft3. See Figure 6. Dueto thenecessary length of these ports, you may want to fold theport along
thebottom and back walls. Itwill beimpractical to use round ports forthese designs.
Do notinstall aport opening against asolid surface, such as an internal brace, back-panel orstructural
wall, seat orinteriorpanel of yourvessel. Theport opening must remain unobstructed. Use thesmallest
dimensionof therectangular port as theminimum amount of spacebetween theport opening and any
solid surfaceto insure unrestricted airflow.
