Note: Many times throughout this User’s Guide, we will refer to
Carbon Monoxide as “CO”.
This Kidd carbon monoxid (CO) alarm is an important part of your
family’s hom saf ty plan. This alarm has b n d sign d and t st d to

sp cifically in th hom . As an own r of a CO alarm, th r ar som
basic facts you should know about for your prot ction.
Many p opl think that CO alarms op rat lik smok alarms. Lik
smok alarms, CO alarms monitor th air in your hom and sound a
loud alarm to warn you of troubl . Th way you r spond to a CO alarm
is quit diff r nt than a smok alarm. That’s b caus a hous fir and a
CO probl m ar two distinctly diff r nt situations. If your smok alarm
w r to alarm, you would quickly b abl to judg th l v l of dang r
you w r in with your s ns s. You can s and sm ll th smok , f l th
h at, s , and possibly h ar th fir burning. You can also r adily s if
your smok alarm is alarming in a non- m rg ncy situation. B caus
your s ns of sight, sm ll, h aring and touch giv you information, you
can almost instantly judg what action to tak if you h ar your smok
alarm.
CO is an invisibl , odorl ss, tast l ss and non-irritating gas – compl t ly
und t ctabl to your s ns s. That’s why it is important to your saf ty
that you hav a CO alarm.
Important Warning Statements
IMPORTANT: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to detect
carbon monoxide from ANY source of combustion. It is NOT
designed to detect smoke, fire, or any other gas.
WARNING: Carbon monoxide alarms are not smoke alarms.
This carbon monoxide alarm is not a substitute for installing and
maintaining an appropriate number of smoke alarms in your
home.
This carbon monoxide alarm will not sense smoke, fire, or any
poisonous gas other than carbon monoxide even though carbon
monoxide can be generated by fire. For this reason you must
install smoke alarms to provide early warning of fire and to pro-
tect you and your family from fire and its related hazards.
CAUTION: This alarm will only indicate the presence of carbon
monoxide at the sensor. Carbon monoxide may be present in
other areas.

Important Warning Statements
WARNING: This product is intended for use in ordinary
indoor locations of family living units. It is not designed to meas-
ure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), commercial or industrial standards. It is
not suitable for installation in hazardous locations as defined in
the National Electric Code.
The installation of this device should not be used as a substitute
for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel burning
appliances, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust sys-
tems. It does not prevent CO from occurring, nor can it solve an
existing CO problem.
WARNING: This device is designed to protect individuals from
acute effects of carbon monoxide exposure. It may not fully safe-
guard individuals with specific medical conditions. If in doubt,
consult a medical practitioner.
Individuals with medical problems may consider using warning
devices which provide audible and visual signals for carbon
monoxide concentrations under 30 PPM.
This carbon monoxide alarm requires a continuous supply of elec-
trical power it will not work without power. Models without
battery backup will not operate during power failure.
This alarm has not been investigated for carbon monoxide detec-
tion below 70 PPM.

Symptoms of CO Po son ng

Mild Exposure:
Slight h adach , naus a, vomiting, fatigu (oft n d scrib d as “flu-lik ”
symptoms).
Medium Exposure:
S v r throbbing h adach , drowsin ss, confusion, fast h art rat .
Extreme Exposure:
Unconsciousn ss, convulsions, cardio-r spiratory failur , d ath.

Dangerous Levels:

propan , natural gas, oil and wood. It can b produc d by any fu l-
burning applianc that is malfunctioning, improp rly install d, or not

• Obstructions in, or unconv ntional, v nt pip d signs which can
amplify th abov situations.
• Ext nd d op ration of unv nt d fu l-burning d vic s (rang , ov n,
fir plac , tc.).
• T mp ratur inv rsions which can trap xhaust gas s n ar th ground.

What They Can and Cannot Do:
CO alarms provid arly warning of th pr s nc of CO, usually b for a
h althy adult would xp ri nc symptoms. This arly warning is possibl ,
how v r, only if your CO alarm is locat d, install d and maintain d as
d scrib d in this guid .
B caus carbon monoxid is a cumulativ poison, long-t rm xposur s
to low l v ls may caus symptoms, as w ll as short-t rm xposur s to
high l v ls. This Kidd unit has a tim -w ight d alarm – th high r th

This CO alarm can only warn you of th pr s nc of CO. It do s not
pr v nt CO from occurring, nor can it solv an xisting CO probl m. If
your unit has alarm d and you’v provid d v ntilation by l aving your
windows and doors op n, th CO buildup may hav dissipat d by th
tim h lp r sponds. Although your probl m may app ar to b
t mporarily solv d, it’s crucial that th sourc of th CO is d t rmin d
and that th appropriat r pairs ar mad .
This CO alarm is d sign d to act as a monitor; it is not d sign d for us
as a short-t rm t sting d vic to p rform a quick ch ck for th pr s nc
of CO.
CO alarms hav limitations. Lik any oth r l ctronic d vic , CO alarms
ar not fool-proof. CO alarms hav a limit d op rational lif . You must
t st your CO alarm w kly, b caus it could fail to op rat at any tim .
If your CO alarm fails to t st prop rly, or if its s lf-diagnostic t st r v als
a malfunction, imm diat ly hav th unit r plac d. This alarm will not
monitor CO l v ls whil in an rror condition.
CO alarms can only s ns CO that r ach s th unit’s s nsor. It’s possibl
that CO may b pr s nt in oth r ar as without r aching th alarm. Th

• Doors or oth r obstructions.
• Fr sh air from a v nt, an op n window or oth r sourc .

(m than ), propan , butan , or oth r combustibl fu ls.

IMPORTANT: Ten (10) years after the initial power up, this alarm
will “beep” two times every 30 seconds to indicate that it is time
to replace the alarm. Replace the alarm immediately! It will not
detect CO in this condition.
