Note: Many times throughout this User’s Guide, we will refer to
Carbon Monoxide as “CO”.
This Kidd carbon monoxid (CO) alarm is an important part of your
family’s hom saf ty plan. This alarm has b n d sign d and t st d to
d t ct CO buildup in a r sid ntial nvironm nt. Your alarm is for us
sp cifically in th hom . As an own r of a CO alarm, th r ar som
basic facts you should know about for your prot ction.
Many p opl think that CO alarms op rat lik smok alarms. Lik
smok alarms, CO alarms monitor th air in your hom and sound a
loud alarm to warn you of troubl . Th way you r spond to a CO alarm
is quit diff r nt than a smok alarm. That’s b caus a hous fir and a
CO probl m ar two distinctly diff r nt situations. If your smok alarm
w r to alarm, you would quickly b abl to judg th l v l of dang r
you w r in with your s ns s. You can s and sm ll th smok , f l th
h at, s , and possibly h ar th fir burning. You can also r adily s if
your smok alarm is alarming in a non- m rg ncy situation. B caus
your s ns of sight, sm ll, h aring and touch giv you information, you
can almost instantly judg what action to tak if you h ar your smok
alarm.
CO is an invisibl , odorl ss, tast l ss and non-irritating gas – compl t ly
und t ctabl to your s ns s. That’s why it is important to your saf ty
that you hav a CO alarm.
Important Warning Statements
IMPORTANT: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to detect
carbon monoxide from ANY source of combustion. It is NOT
designed to detect smoke, fire, or any other gas.
WARNING: Carbon monoxide alarms are not smoke alarms.
This carbon monoxide alarm is not a substitute for installing and
maintaining an appropriate number of smoke alarms in your
home.
This carbon monoxide alarm will not sense smoke, fire, or any
poisonous gas other than carbon monoxide even though carbon
monoxide can be generated by fire. For this reason you must
install smoke alarms to provide early warning of fire and to pro-
tect you and your family from fire and its related hazards.
CAUTION: This alarm will only indicate the presence of carbon
monoxide at the sensor. Carbon monoxide may be present in
other areas.

Important Warning Statements
WARNING: This product is intended for use in ordinary
indoor locations of family living units. It is not designed to meas-
ure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), commercial or industrial standards. It is
not suitable for installation in hazardous locations as defined in
the National Electric Code.
The installation of this device should not be used as a substitute
for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel burning
appliances, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust sys-
tems. It does not prevent CO from occurring, nor can it solve an
existing CO problem.
WARNING: This device is designed to protect individuals from
acute effects of carbon monoxide exposure. It may not fully safe-
guard individuals with specific medical conditions. If in doubt,
consult a medical practitioner.
Individuals with medical problems may consider using warning
devices which provide audible and visual signals for carbon
monoxide concentrations under 30 PPM.
This carbon monoxide alarm requires a continuous supply of elec-
trical power it will not work without power. Models without
battery backup will not operate during power failure.
This alarm has not been investigated for carbon monoxide detec-
tion below 70 PPM.

What They Can and Cannot Do:
CO alarms provid arly warning of th pr s nc of CO, usually b for a
h althy adult would xp ri nc symptoms. This arly warning is possibl ,
how v r, only if your CO alarm is locat d, install d and maintain d as
d scrib d in this guid .
B caus carbon monoxid is a cumulativ poison, long-t rm xposur s
to low l v ls may caus symptoms, as w ll as short-t rm xposur s to
high l v ls. This Kidd unit has a tim -w ight d alarm – th high r th

This CO alarm can only warn you of th pr s nc of CO. It do s not
pr v nt CO from occurring, nor can it solv an xisting CO probl m. If
your unit has alarm d and you’v provid d v ntilation by l aving your
windows and doors op n, th CO buildup may hav dissipat d by th
tim h lp r sponds. Although your probl m may app ar to b
t mporarily solv d, it’s crucial that th sourc of th CO is d t rmin d
and that th appropriat r pairs ar mad .
This CO alarm is d sign d to act as a monitor; it is not d sign d for us
as a short-t rm t sting d vic to p rform a quick ch ck for th pr s nc
of CO.
CO alarms hav limitations. Lik any oth r l ctronic d vic , CO alarms
ar not fool-proof. CO alarms hav a limit d op rational lif . You must
t st your CO alarm w kly, b caus it could fail to op rat at any tim .
If your CO alarm fails to t st prop rly, or if its s lf-diagnostic t st r v als
a malfunction, imm diat ly hav th unit r plac d. This alarm will not
monitor CO l v ls whil in an rror condition.
CO alarms can only s ns CO that r ach s th unit’s s nsor. It’s possibl
that CO may b pr s nt in oth r ar as without r aching th alarm. Th

IMPORTANT: Ten (10) years after the initial power up, this alarm
will “beep” two times every 30 seconds to indicate that it is time
to replace the alarm. Replace the alarm immediately! It will not
detect CO in this condition.

How to Install Your Alarm
Your Kidd CO alarm with its r movabl
adapt r allows you to install th alarm as a wall
mount d unit, a dir ct plug unit, or as a tabl
top unit.
In its “as shipp d” configuration, all you n d
to do is install th 9V backup batt ry and your
Kidd CO alarm is r ady to b plugg d dir ctly
into a wall sock t.
Direct Plug Alarm
To install:
1. Choos a standard 120V unswitch d outl t
to plug th alarm into.
2. Pull th slid support out approximat ly 1/4” until th slid snaps into
plac . This will h lp support unit in th wall outl t.
3. Plug th alarm into th outl t.
If the outlet is mounted horizontally (side-
ways):
If you ar going to us your alarm as a dir ct
plug and you ar going to plug in to an outl t
that is mount d horizontally (sid ways), you will
n d to rotat th adapt r 90˚.
To rotat th adapt r:
1. R mov back door by sliding it down and
out.
2. Spr ad adapt r thumb r l as s out and car -
fully turn alarm ov r. This will allow adapt r
to slid out.
3. Lift th adapt r compl t ly out of th alarm.
4. Rotat th adapt r 90˚ to th right (clockwis ). Snap it firmly back
into plac .
5. Car fully r plac th back door. Insur th “latch s” on all four cor-
n rs of th door ar lin d up, th n pr ss th door s cur ly into plac .
6. Plug th alarm into an unswitch d wall sock t.

Wall Mounted Alarm
Installation tips for pow r cord mod ls:
Th pow r cord option provid s mor fl xibility in mounting locations and
allows th alarm to b asily install d at y l v l.
For a wall-mount d unit, you will n d to pull out th r movabl adapt r and
pow r cord.
To install:
1. Follow st ps 1 through 3 in th pr vious s c-
tion und r “To Rotat th Adapt r.”
2. With th adapt r r mov d, pull th pow r cord
out of th cord storag , r mov th twist ti ,
and xt nd th pow r cord.
3. With th pow r cord xt nd d, pr ss th last
f w inch s of th pow r cord into th cord
r c ss. G ntly pull th cord at th bottom of th
cord r c ss until th cord b com s taught and
lays flat in cord r c ss.
4. Car fully r plac th back door. Insur th
“latch s” on all four corn rs of th door ar
lin d up, th n pr ss th door s cur ly into plac .
5. Mark th location for th two mounting hol s on th wall spac d v rtically
2 5/8" apart.
6. If you ar mounting th alarm in plast r board or drywall, drill a 3/16" hol
into th wall and ins rt th plastic anchors provid d.
Install th two scr ws provid d into th wall or wall
anchors until th scr w h ad is approximat ly 1/8"
from th wall.
7. Hook th unit ov r th scr w h ad and into th k y-
hol in back of th unit.
8. Plug th adapt r into an unswitch d wall sock t.
Table Top Alarm
You can us your Kidd CO alarm as a tabl top unit. Follow st ps 1 thru 3
abov . Inst ad of mounting th unit to a wall, pull out th slid support and
plac in a location that is asily visibl . B sur th alarm is no mor than
thr f t from th floor.Th alarm do s not hav to b within thr f t from
th floor to d t ct CO, but at this h ight it is l ss lik ly to sustain damag
from a fall.

If th batt ry is low or missing, or if th unit malfunctions, it will display

4. Installation Instructions

indicat th unit is monitoring for CO. If th alarm s ns s dang rous l v-
ls of CO, th digital display will indicat th CO conc ntration in parts
p r million (PPM), and th alarm will mit an audibl alarm patt rn.
This alarm will display a “0” if CO conc ntrations b tw n 0 and 30
PPM hav b n d t ct d within th last 15 s conds.
Wh n th unit is first pow r d up, th digital display will show thr
“ ights” – indicating th alarm is in th start-up mod . Th thr

you hav had a CO r ading sinc r s tting th alarm.
Conc ntrations of CO b tw n 1 and 30 PPM can oft n occur in nor-
mal, v ryday conditions. Conc ntrations of CO b low 30 PPM may b
an indication of a transi nt condition that may app ar today and n v r
r app ar. Som CO conditions may start out as low l v l l aks but could
d v lop into CO conc ntrations that may b com harmful.

Due to the loudness of the alarm, we suggest that you place your
fingers over the sounder opening while testing your alarm.
Caution: Continuous exposure to the high sound level of this
alarm over an extended period of time may cause hearing loss.

prop rly, you will h ar 4 quick b ps – follow d by 5 s conds of sil nc
– follow d by 4 quick b ps. Th display will show thr “ ights” and
th n show a numb r – usually around 200). Within s v ral s conds th
unit will r turn to monitor for CO.
Note: You do not need to press the Test button to take a CO read-
ing.

Battery Replacement
NOTE: This CO alarm is not battery operated. How v r, th s alarms
ar quipp d with 9 volt batt ry backup – th 9 volt batt ry is to supply
short t rm back-up during a pow r outag .

• Duracell MN1604 or MX1604
• Energizer 522
• Gold Peak GP1604A

local hardwar stor . Us of a diff r nt batt ry may hav a d trim ntal

Th 9 volt batt ry is not r charg abl . If th 9 volt batt ry is missing,
disconn ct d, or if th batt ry’s pow r is low, “Lb” will b display d
alt rnat ly with th curr nt CO r ading onc v ry s cond accompani d
by an audibl b p v ry 15 s conds. If this happ ns, th batt ry must
b r plac d.
To replace battery:
R mov back door by sliding it down and out. R mov batt ry by
unsnapping it from th batt ry clip. Do not disconn ct th batt ry by
pulling th batt ry with on hand and th alarm with th oth r, as this
may br ak th wir s conn cting th batt ry to th CO alarm and void
th warranty. Install a n w batt ry by conn cting it to th batt ry clip
and plac into th r c ss d batt ry cavity. R install th back door of th
unit.
IMPORTANT: Constant xposur s to high or low humidity may r duc
batt ry lif . A good saf ty m asur is to r plac th batt ry at l ast onc
a y ar, or at th sam tim as you chang your clocks for daylight saving
tim .
Aft r installing or changing th batt ry, r install your alarm. T st your
alarm by using th T st/R s t button and ch ck that th display is on.
Maintenance Tips
To k p your alarm in good working ord r, you must follow th s st ps:

• Vacuum th alarm cov r onc a month to r mov accumulat d dust.
• N v r us d t rg nts or solv nts to cl an th alarm. Ch micals can

th alarm.
