Item
Hardware requirements
■Computer or server with SATA type 1 & 2 & 3
■Hard disk with SATA type 1 & 2 & 3
Requirements for operation and notes
■The outstanding design of the SATA RAID system allows the user to use two hard disk drives at
the same time.
■Since the system primarily uses stringent criteria to detect errors on the hard disk drive, please
ensure that your drive is free of errors and has a minimum storage capacity of 20 GB.
■Please switch the first and second hard disk drive in the SATA RAID system to MASTER or
single-drive mode. Otherwise, the system cannot detect the hard disk drives.
■The SATA RAID system is equipped with a 6 cm ball-bearing fan that cools the hard disk drive. We
strongly recommend using a computer chassis with an effective cooling system to prevent the disk
array from becoming damaged due to insufficient cooling.
■The system is present in RAID1 mode.

Setting Mirror Mode (RAID 1)
Installing two completely new hard disk drives
►Insert the two new hard disk drives into the RAID system at the same time.
►Switch on the computer.
Installing one new hard disk drive and one hard disk drive with existing data
We strongly recommend installing drives of the same manufacturer brand and the same memory
capacity in your RAID system. Using the automatic restore function, you can format the new drive
automatically and then save the data on the new drive (backup).
►Insert the drive with the existing saved data into installation point 1 or 2 of the RAID system.
►Switch on the computer. Since only one of the two installation points is free, an acoustic signal
(alarm buzzer) indicates the correct installation point to you. Press the button on the front of the
RAID system to switch off the alarm.
►After you activate the operating system, please check whether the current setting for the RAID
system is the same as before the installation of the hard disk drive. Then, insert the drive installed
in the removable bracket into a different installation point. The memory capacity of the newly
installed drive must be higher than or exactly the same size as that of the old drive.
►Immediately afterwards, the RAID system starts the automatic restore function (for more infor-
mation about this function, refer to “System Maintenance”). The backup process is displayed on
the LCD display.
►Switch on the buzzer alarm again to return to normal system operation.

System Maintenance
Quick Switch and Automatic Restore
Offline Backup
If the data on the RAID system is saved, you can remove the backup drive. Within a specific time
period, you can now insert the hard disk into the RAID system and perform an automatic backup. This
allows you to protect the system and prevent both hard disks from failing at the same time.
Hard disk drive failure
When a hard disk is faulty or fails, the buzzer alarm activates and the following messages are
displayed on the LCD display.
■After you remove the hard disk drive that has failed and replace it with a new one, the following
message appears on the LCD display after a correct installation:
■A few seconds after the new hard disk drive is installed, the data restore process is displayed on
the LCD display.
Pri->Sec indicates that the data from the original hard disk drive (primary hard disk drive) is being
copied to the new hard disk drive (secondary hard disk drive).
XXX% indicates the level of completeness of the restore process as a percentage.
■The restoration process is complete. The following message appears on the LCD display.
■A “T” in the lower right corner of the LCD displays indicates that the RAID system is overheating.
■An “F” in the upper right corner of the LCD displays indicates a fan malfunction.

Rectifying Malfunctions
The system is unstable after installing and connection the RAID system
Hard disk error
Cause ■After the installation, the computer restarts.
■The computer does not detect the Raid system after it starts.
Repair ■Check the display on the LCD display.
■Check the connection cable from the Raid system to the computer.
■If the computer system cannot be started, there may be an incompatibility problem in
the system. You must contact support.
Cause ■The computer system responds normally; the speed when accessing the RAID
system is decreased.
Repair ■First, check whether a data restore process is running in the RAID system.
■Check whether the length of the SATA cable that connects the drives to the computer
system is too long or whether the specifications for this cable meet the requirements.
■Switch off the RAID system and remove the hard disk drive. Connect it directly to the
computer system for testing. Defective sectors on the drive are responsible for the
system switching off suddenly.
Cause ■How high is the total capacity in mirror mode when a completely new hard disk drive
is added?
Repair ■The total memory capacity of the SATA RAID system is determined by the memory
capacity of the primary hard disk drive that was installed for use initially.
■The memory capacity does not increase after the first installation, even when a
completely new hard disk drive with a higher memory capacity is installed.
Cause ■Why does an error message appear when I install the secondary hard disk drive?
Repair ■The memory capacity of the secondary hard disk drive is lower than that of the first
hard disk drive. The SATA RAID system cannot restore the new hard disk drive and
the message “Wrong Capacity” is displayed on the LCD display.
■On the LCD display, a restore error message such as Pri(s)->Sec(s) or Sec(s)->Pri(s)
is displayed. In this case, (s) indicates that both hard disk drives are being treated as
the original hard disk drives. Before installing the hard disk drives in the SATA RAID
system, you must specify which hard disk drive is the original. Once the original hard
disk drive is specified and installed in the SATA RAID system, you can install the
second hard disk drive. This allows you to utilize the benefits of the function for
automatically restoring the SATA RAID system.
Cause ■The hard disk is clearly working correctly but is displayed as faulty on the LCD display
Repair ■The SATA RAID system uses strict requirements and standards to inspect defective
sectors on the hard disk drive. You must first overwrite the defective sectors on the
PC before you install the hard disk drive on the SATA RAID system.

Automatic restore function
Other possible situations
Cause ■What happens if the energy supply of the computer is interrupted while the SATA
RAID system is automatically restoring the data?
Repair ■If you are in mirror mode (RAID 1) and the energy supply is switched off during an
automatic restore process, the control automatically detects the percentage of the
restore process that is complete. When the energy supply is restored, the restore
process starts and continues automatically.
Cause ■Is it possible that data may be lost during an automatic restore?
Repair ■The data is copied from a sector of one drive to the sector of the other drive. When
the sectors are faulty, the system generates only a hypothetical duplication. The
saved data in the faulty sectors may be lost.
Cause ■Why is the restore process slowing down?
Repair ■Restoring and saving data on the computer system slows down the system until the
memory operations are complete.
Cause ■How can I switch the buzzer on and off?
Repair ■In its initial state when delivered from the manufacturer, the alarm buzzer is switched
on.
■You can switch off the alarm buzzer by pressing the “Buzzer on/off” button.
