Assembly
Note: The following instructions use the Viking
DVR Drill Press model 83705 for the Safety
Guard installation procedures.
1) Slide the mount bracket (A) Fig.1 of the
Safety Guard assembly onto the Drill Press
quill. Secure the mount bracket (A) to the
quill by tightening cap screw (B) Fig.1. Only
tighten enough to secure assembly to quill,
do not overtighten cap screw.
2) Now the limit switch cable with connector (A)
Fig.2 must be connected to the connector
(B) found on the left side of the head.
Remove rubber cap (C), align the connector
holes with the pins and push to connect.
3) The Safety Guard (A) Fig.3 height can be
adjusted by loosening lock knob (B) and
lowering Safety Guard. This Safety Guard
also comes with a guard extension (C) which
can be lowered to cover the entire chuck
body. The guard extension position can be
lowered as shown by loosening lock knobs (D).
Operational Guidelines & Firmware
Note: The entire chuck body must be covered
by the Safety Guard/Safety Guard Extension.
All Viking Drill Presses come with a firmware
with an "automatic" self enable for the Safety
Guard. In order to activate the "automatic" self
enable function, make sure the Safety Guard is
installed and the cable connector is plugged
into the Viking Drill Press. Turn on Viking Drill
Press, the firmware will recognize and
automatically enable the Safety Guard
software.
When the Safety Guard is opened, the Drill
Press will automatically detect the Safety Guard is open and will turn off the machine.
The Drill Press can only be operated while the Safety Guard is completely closed.
At this point, it is important to test the firmware to make sure the Safety Guard works as
intended. Turn machine on, open the Safety Guard. The machine must stop and the LCD
screen will indicate “Chuck Guard Open”. The drill press will not be able to start again
until the safety guard is completely closed.
If you wish to disable the Safety Guard, disconnect and remove the Safety Guard.
Perform a factory reset (press and hold “Self Start” while short pressing the “OFF”
button) to turn off the Safety Guard software.
