andshallowwaterROV’s.
ThetransponderisoperatingonKongsbergCymbal
digitalacousticprotocolsandprovidesoptimal
performancewithKongsberg’srangeofSSBLsystems,
fromµPAPtoHiPAP .
ThecNODEMicroisextremelyexiblefeaturing
CymbaldigitaltelemetryandbothSSBLandLBLpositioningcapabilities.Withprecise
baselinemeasurementcapabilitybetweenseabedtransponders,thecNODEMicro
providesfunctionalityforsimpledivermetrologyorarcheology.
Thetelemetrycapabilityallowsthebatterystatustobereadduringoperationandthe
integratedtiltsensorcanbeturnedonandoffwithpositioningupdates.MultiplecNODE
MicrotransponderscanbeinterrogatedsimultaneouslyinSSBLpositioningmodeusing
theµPAPandHiPAPFasttrackfeaturetoensurethefastestpossibleupdatesduring
operation.

considerations
Takethisinformationintoconsiderationwhendeployingthetransponders.
Acousticrange
Thetermdepthratingshouldnotbeconfusedwiththetermacousticrange.Theacoustic
rangeisdependentonmanyfactors,andsomeofthefactorsareoutsidethecontrolof
theuser.
Vesselsystem
Thedirectivityandcoverageareaofthevessel’ssystemvariesdependingonthe
system’scomponentsandtheirspecications.Somesystemshavehighdirectivityand
omnidirectionalcoverage,whileothersystemshasreducedcoverageandlessdirectivity.
Thetranspondershouldalwaysbewithinthecoverageconeofthevesselsystem.
Transducertype
Severaltypesoftransducerscanbeusedwiththetransponderstosuitoperational
needs.Anomnidirectionaltransducer,suchasTD180,coversalargearea,buthasless
acousticpowercomparedtoafocusedtransducer,suchasTD30V .Afocusedsignal
giveslessfootprint/coverage.Thevesselshouldalwaysbewithinthesignalfootprint
ofthetransponder.
TxPower
Theabilitytodetectsignalsdependsonthesignalstrength.Thetransmissionpowercan
beadjusted,bothforthevessel’ssystemandforthetransponder.
Acousticnoise
Acousticnoiseispresentatallvessels.Atgivenconditions,thenoiselevelcan
beexcessive.Avessel’spropellersandthrustersproduceacousticnoiseduring
manoeuvring,andincertaininstancesonboardmachineryandpumpsmayalsoproduce
acousticnoisewheninuse.Heavypropeller/thrusteruseaswellaswavescangenerate
airbubbles,whichcangetinfrontofthevessel’stransducerandblocktheacousticsignal.

Chargingthebattery(on-deck)
Chargingabatteryisaprocesswithaninherentrisksocheckapplicableprocedure(s)
priortocharginginordertorstassesstheleveloftheinherentrisk;andthen,if
necessary,applysuitablecontrolstomitigatetheinherentriskbeforecharging.Follow
thechargingprocedurecarefully.
Context
Thebatterymustbefullychargedbeforelongtermstorageanditisrecommended
torechargethebatteryevery6monthstomakesurethebatterydoesnotdischarge
completelyovertime.Acompletelydischargedbatterywillnotcharge,asalllithium
ionbatteries.
Whenbatteryandtransponderareshippedseparately,thebattery“mustbeshippedat
astateofcharge(SoC)notexceeding30%oftheirratedcapacity”inordertobein
compliancewithIA TAregulations.
ThecNODEMiniSbattery
chargerisforchargingcNODE
MiniSbatteriesandcNODE
Microbatteriesonly.Never
useitforotherpurposes.The
batterychargerwillonlycharge
whenabattery’sstateofcharge
islessthan96%ofitsrated
capacity.
Important
EqualizethetemperatureofthecNODEMicrotobetween10°Cand40°Cbefore
chargingit.
AlwaysusethecNODEMiniSbatterychargerforon-deckchargingofcNODEMiniS
batteriesandcNODEMicrobatteries.
Neverchargebatteriesunattended.
Procedure
1Disconnecttheon/offplugfromthecNODEtransponder.
2Lettheunitwarmuporcooldowntoanambienttemperatureof10°Cto40°C
beforecharging.

3Connectthebatterychargerplugtotheconnectoronthetranspondermarked
CHARGE.
4Connectthebatterychargertomains(110or220V AC).
5Removethepowercordaftercharging,beforeremovingtheconnectorfromthe
cNODEMicro.
Result
TheLEDindicatoronthechargerashesgreenwhencharging.Itnormallytakesabout
30secondsbeforethechargingstartsandtheLEDindicatorstartsashinggreenafter
connectingthecNODEbatterychargertothemains.Thebatterywillbechargedwithin
1hour.TheLEDindicatorwillstaygreenwhenfullycharged.
Thetransponderisreadyforuse.
Turningonthetransponder
Thetransponderisdesignedforoperationinwateronly.Thetranspondermaybe
operatedinairfortestpurposesoverashortperiodoftime.
Prerequisites
Thetranspondermustbechargedbeforeuse.

2Turnonthemainpowerswitchtostarttheprogram.

Settoconrmyourselection.
2Connectthetesttransducercabletotheupperrightconnector.
3Placethetesttransducerfacetofacewiththetranspondertransducer.

5Typeintheserialnumber,ifnecessary.

7TapInterrogate.

Installingthetransponderinolderversions

APOSandHiPAPsupportsthesetransponders.
Context
OlderversionsofAPOSmaynotsupportthecNODEMicrofully.Whenyouopenthe
NewTranspondermenuinAPOS,thereisnoinformationaboutthefactthatthecNODE
MicrotransponderonlycanuseCymbalandnotFSK.
Procedure
1Startthetransponderwizard
SearchAPOSonlinehelptondthis.
2SelectHiPAPcNODEintheTypesectionintheTranspondertypesection.
3Checkthechannelnumberonthetransponder.
4SelectthechannelnumberwiththedropdownmenusintheTransponderdata
section.
IgnoretheAlternativechannel(Bxx),thisisforFSK.
5SelectNextwhenthechannelisset.
6ClearActivateandselectFinish

ThecNODEMicrotranspondersdonotsupportFSK,anduseonlytheM-channels.
IfyoubymistakechangethetransponderchannelfromMxxtoBxxinAPOS,the
transponderwillnotrespondtocommandsanditkeepstheoriginalchannel.
APOSchangesthetransponderchannelforthistransponderinthesystemandusesthe
wrongchannel.Thismeansthatthetransponderwillnotreplytotheinterrogation.
Procedure
1RemovethetransponderfromAPOS.
