ThecNODE®Microtransponderisalightandcompactunitdesignedforusebydivers
andshallowwaterROV’s.OperatingonKongsbergCymbaldigitalacousticprotocols,
thecNODE®MicroprovidestheoptimalpositioningperformancewiththeKongsberg
rangeofSSBLsystems,fromµPAP®throughtoHiPAP®.
ThecNODE®MicroisextremelyexiblefeaturingCymbaldigitaltelemetryand
bothSSBL&LongBaselinepositioningcapabilities.Byhighrangeaccuraciesitcan
measurebaselinesbetweentranspondersontheseabedprovidecapabilitiesforsimple
divermetrologyorarcheology.
Thetelemetrycapabilityallowsthebatterystatustobereadduringoperationandthe
integratedtiltsensorcanbeturnedonandoffwithpositioningupdates.Multiple
cNODE®MicrotransponderscanbeinterrogatedsimultaneouslyinSSBLpositioning
modeusingtheµPAP®andHiPAP®Fasttrackfeaturetoensurethefastestpossible
updatesduringoperation.
TheunithasabuiltinLi-Ionbatterypackofferinglongtimeoperation.

Generalsupplyconditions
ThefollowinggeneralsupplyconditionsapplytothisKongsbergcNODEMicrodelivery.
Receipt,unpackingandstorage
Uponacceptingshipmentoftheequipment,theshipyardand/orthedealermustensure
thatthedeliveryiscompleteandinspecteachshippingcontainerforevidenceofphysical
damage.
Iftheinspectionrevealsanyindicationofcrushing,dropping,immersioninwateror
anyotherformofdamage,therecipientshouldrequestthatarepresentativefromthe
companyusedtotransporttheequipmentbepresentduringunpacking.
Allequipmentmustbeinspectedforphysicaldamage,i.e.brokencontrolsandindicators,
dents,scratchesetc.duringunpacking.Ifanydamagetotheequipmentisdiscovered,the
recipientmustnotifyboththetransportationcompanyandKongsbergMaritimesothat
KongsbergMaritimecanarrangeforreplacementorrepairofthedamagedequipment.
Onceunpacked,theequipmentmustbestoredinacontrolledenvironmentwithan
atmospherefreeofcorrosiveagents,excessivehumidityortemperatureextremes.
Theequipmentmustbecoveredtoprotectitfromdustandotherformsofcontamination
whenstored.
Equipmentresponsibility
Unlessotherwisestatedinthecontract,theshipyarddoingtheinstallationand/or
equipmentdealerbecomesfullyresponsiblefortheequipmentuponreceipt.
Thedurationofresponsibilitycover:
•Theperiodoftimetheequipmentisstoredlocallybeforeinstallation
•Theentireinstallationprocess
•Commissioning
•Theperiodoftimebetweencommissioningandthenalacceptanceoftheequipment
bytheenduserorowner
Unlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadeinthecontract,theKongsbergcNODEMicro
warrantyperiod(asspeciedinthecontract)beginswhentheacceptancedocuments
havebeensigned.

Generalacoustic
considerations
Acousticrange
Thedepthratingshouldnotbeconfusedwithacousticrange.Theacousticrangeis
dependentonmanyfactors,andsomeofthefactorsareoutsidecontroloftheuser.
Vesselsystem
Thedirectivityandcoverageareaforthevesselsystemisdifferent,dependingonwhich
systemyouareusing.Somesystemshavehighdirectivityandomnidirectionalcoverage,
whileothersystemshasreducedcoverageandlessdirectivity.Thetranspondershould
alwaysbewithinthecoverageconeofthevesselsystem.
Transducertype
Therearedifferenttypesoftransducersusedonthetransponders.Anomnidirectional
transducer(suchasaTD180)coversalargearea,buthaslessacousticpower
comparedtoafocusedtransducer(e.g.TD50V).However,afocusedsignalgivesless
footprint/coverage.Thevesselshouldalwaysbewithinthesignalfootprintofthe
transponder.
TXpower
Theabilitytodetectsignalsdependsonthesignalstrength.Thetransmissionpowercan
beadjusted,bothforthevesselsystemandforthetransponder.
Acousticnoise
Acousticnoiseispresentatallvessels.Atgivenconditions,thenoiselevelcanbe
excessive.Acousticnoiseiscausedbymainpropellersandthrusters,andinsome
instancesalsofrommachinery/pumpsonboard.Heavypropeller/thrusteruseoralso
wavescanalsogenerateairbubbles,whichcangetinfrontofthevesseltransducerand
blocktheacousticsignal.

Thebatteryischargedthroughtheexternalconnector.Thisisconnectedwithsomerisk,
pleasereadtheinformationbelowandfollowthechargeprocedurecarefully.
Prerequisites
Caution
ThecNODEMicrowithbatterymustbeclimatisedtoatemperaturebetween10and
40°Cbeforecharging.
Foron-deckchargingusethecNODEMicrobatterychargeronly.
Neverchargethebatteryunattended.
Makesurethetransponderisswitchedoffbeforechargingthebatteryandthatthebattery
isclimatisedtoatemperaturebetween10°Cand40°Cbeforechargingit.

Note
AlwaysconnectthecNODEbatterychargertothecNODEMicrobeforeconnectingthe
cNODEbatterychargertothemains(110or220Vac).
Thebatterymustbefullychargedbeforelongtermstorageanditisrecommendedto
rechargethebatteryevery6monthstomakesurethebatterydoesnotdischargeover
time.
Requiredbatterystatefortransportationis30%orlessremainingcapacitytocomply
withregulations.
Procedure
1Switchoffthetransponder.
2Letthebatteryclimatisetoanambienttemperature
beforecharging(10°Cto40°C).
3ConnectthecNODEbatterychargerplugto
theconnectoronthecNODEMicromarked
