GeoSLAM ZEB Horizon –Setup & Scanning
Scanner setup:
1. Ensuring the battery is already charged, attach ZEB battery to the data logger.
2. Connect one end of the data cable to the data logger into the orange “scanner” port, and
the other end to port on the scanner head.

3. Connect the camera cable from the ZEB-CAM to smaller port on the scanner head.
Starting a scan:
1. Place scanner on a flat, stationary surface, ensuring scanner head is free to rotate.

2. Turn on the data logger by pressing the on/off button.
3. The data logger will boot up and connect to the scanner head.
4. Once booted up the logger will go into standby mode (blinking orange LED).
5. To initiate a new scan long press the function (“fn”) button on the logger or the button on
top of the scan head until the LED strip on the ZEB-Horizon lights up solid red.
6. The scanner will then begin initialization, during which the scanner head must remain
stationary for 15 seconds –if it is moved during initialization, the system will revert to
standby mode.
7. Once the scanner has finished initialization, it is ready to scan.
Conducting a scan:
1. Once scanner is initialized, pick scanner up and capture features required.
2. Where possible, to finish the scan return to the same point as where you started.
3. Press and hold Fn button until scanner head rotation stops to end the scan.

Notes:
Tips for good point cloud capture:
-Walk slowly, pointing scanner to center of room.
-Create internal loops whilst scanning.
-End the scan at the same place as where started.
-When moving between spaces, point scanner in both sides of transition area.
-Create “arcs” around doors and other transition spaces.
-Avoid walking in straight lines down corridors.
-Avoid scanning for longer than 30 minutes in one single scan –break the scan down into
multiple scans –ensuring at least 20% overlap between features captured to enable
merging.
