Kyocera Finecam S5R Instruction Manual

EMBARGO until 28 July 2003
Press Release
The new continuous speed – with the Finecam S5R Kyocera sets new standards in
compact digital cameras .
At the IFA 2003 Kyocera will introduce the first compact 5 mega pixels camera with
professional continuous drive. The Kyocera RTUNE technology with new image data
processor allows for first-class picture quality and fast shooting with up to three
frames a second in highest resolution. A high-performance movie mode makes clips
of any length with image and sound in TV quality possible.
Hamburg, 11. August 2003 – With the new Finecam S5R the Japanese technology
company Kyocera presents a digital camera at the IFA 2003 which offers
continuous shooting at 3 f/sec. Thanks to the new Kyocera RTUNE technology, and
together with a high speed card with a transfer speed of 10MB/sec, this extremely
compact 5 mega pixels camera achieves this rate even in the highest resolution of
2560x1920 pixels.
Thanks to a minimal lag time and the high-performance continuous drive mode the
Finecam S5R meets the promise of the digital snapshot.
"The new Kyocera RTUNE technology of the Finecam S5R marks a radical change in
digital camera technology", says Dirk Hülsermann, head of marketing and corporate
communication at YASHICA Kyocera GmbH on the launch of the Finecam S5R. "We
believe that RTUNE will radically change photography. Up to now one had to wait for
the right moment for a snapshot. Now one can take a series of snapshots and later
just choose the best one. Life is too short to miss out on anything.
Innovative is also the Finecam S5R's video mode. The user can shoot video clips of
30 images per second with VGA resolution and WAV sound in excellent and non-
jerky quality . The length of the clips is only limited by the size of the memory card
used. With a resolution of 640x480 the movie clips can then be played back fullsize
on a TV screen.
Next to the taking speed the second most important point in the development of the
Finecam S5R was the optimization of image quality. The new image data processor
is responsible for images with considerably less noise and greater colour accuracy.
An optical triple zoom with four aspheric elements and special optical glasses as
well as a 1/1.8" CCD with primary colour filter provide the best basis for taking
photos. The newly developed image data processor creates a separate signal for
each of the primary colours red, green and blue. Due to the 16bit A/D (analog/digital)
arithmetic even the most delicate colour gradations can be reproduced.
Other characteristic of the Finecam S5R are a focal length range from 7.3mm to
21.9mm, which corresponds to 35mm to 105mm in the 35mm format and a
continuous autofocus. This reliably and quickly captures moving subjects such as
playing children. With a shutter response time of just a tenth of a second the Finecam
S5R reacts more or less as fast as analog SLR cameras.
These technological innovations of the Finecam S5R are supplemented by a number
of new setting modes. With six different programmed autoexposure controls such as
Sports, Landscape, Night, Night Backdrop/Portrait and Macro, even less experienced
users will soon have such subjects under control. On turning on the camera the user
can be greeted by his favourite image in the display.
With its dimensions of 92x57.5x33mm the Finecam S5R is an easy to handle
companion . The camera comes complete with a 16 MB SD card, a lithium-ion
battery pack, battery charger and other accessories. The Finecam S5R will be
available for EUR 549.—at the time of the IFA late August.
