1.1 Main Features
The Starfinder-Aire is a real-time tracking device; which working in conjunction with
a location based service platform provides tracking and location data to users. The
Starfiner-Aire’s major features include:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
FCC, CE, PTCRB and IC certification
GPS, GSM/GPRS & Battery/Status Indicator LEDs
900mAh internal Li-Ion polymer rechargeable battery
GPS receiver
GSM/SMS or GPRS real-time position reporting based on time and/or distance
intervals.
Power-lost alert if connection to external power is interrupted
Distance accumulator for mileage reporting
20 user definable geo-fenced areas, with alerts sent when the boundaries are
crossed
Geo-fence alerts
Over-speed alerts
Motion sensor to detect impact/shock events with alerts
1 input port with optical isolator; 1 analog port
2 output ports with built-in relays
1 RS232 port
external DC power supply range of 9-36 volts
Water-proof (IP67), compact and robust case design, supporting multiple
installation methods
Intelligent Smart Logger, storage for 8500 dynamic waypoints in areas without
cellular data coverage. Data is automatically uploaded to the monitoring server
when data coverage is restored.
Monitor the vehicle’s working engine hours using external detection circuitry
(user supplied).
Starfinder-Aire can be used for position tracking of vehicles, motorcycles,
construction equipment and other valuable machinery.

1.2 Network Services
In order to use the Starfinder-Aire, you must have GSM/GPRS network service from
a cellular service provider.
This device works with GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). In certain cases,
due to limitations of the service in your local GSM/GPRS network or your service
plan, some of the Starfinder-Aire’s features may not be available.
Check with your GSM/GPRS service provider if they offer a suitable service plan for
this application.
1.3 Care and Maintenance
The suggestions below will help to ensure full warranty coverage of your Starfinder-
Aire.
• Do not store the device in areas with high temperatures, this which can shorten the
life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics.
• Do not attempt to open the device.
• Do not drop, knock, or shake the device on purpose. It will trigger alerts if the internal
motion sensor is enabled.
• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the
device.
Read and follow the safety guidelines below.

Interference
All wireless devices may be susceptible to interference, which may affect performance.
Switch Off In Hospitals
Switch the device off near medical equipment.
Switch Off In Aircraft
Follow any restrictions. Wireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.
Switch Off When Refuelling
Do not use the device at a refueling point. Do not use near fuel or chemicals.
Switch Off Near Blasting
Follow any restrictions. Do not use the device where blasting is in progress.
Qualified Service
Only qualified personnel should open or repair this product.
Batteries
Use only approved batteries. Do not connect to incompatible products.
Back Up Copies
It is recommended to save important settings.
Connecting To Other Devices
When connecting to any other device, read that device’s user guide for detailed safety
instructions. Do not connect with incompatible products.

2.2 The LED Indicators and Working Status

There are 3 color LED indicators on the Starfinder-Aire. Their functions are described
below:
● Battery/Power LED indicator (Red) –indicates if the device is being powered by the battery
or an external DC power supply
● GPS status LED indicator (Green) –indicate if the device has located its’ position
● GSM status LED indicator (Yellow) –indicate if device has connected to GSM network
Table 2.2 describes how to identify the Starfinder-Aire’s working status based on the
indicators.

2.3 SIM Card and Installation
2.3.1 SIM Card Requirements
In order to use a Starfinder-Aire, the user must have a valid 2G micro SIM
(Subscriber Identity Module) card provided by their GSM/GPRS service provider. To
operate the Starfinder-Aire, data and/or SMS functions must be supported.
If a data plan is not enabled (SMS service only), the user’s device will not able to
access the Location Based Service platform through the GSM/GPRS network.
For example, if the user wants to use Laipac’s LocationNow service platform to track
their Starfinder-Aire, they need to have a SIM card with a data plan.
2.3.2 Installing a SIM card
Follow the steps below to install the SIM card in the Starfinder-Aire.

Step 3. Install SIM Card Step 4. Insert the Card into the Receptacle

2.4 Utility Software and its Usage
2.4.1 Utility Software –LocationNow Suite
As a position tracking device, the Starfinder-Aire wants to work with a tracking
service provider’s platform, such as, www.LocationNow.com from Laipac
Technology Inc. The Starfinder-Aire must be configured using the
LocationNowSuite utility software.
Installing LocationNow Suite requires a computer with the following
●Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 O.S as well as a USB 2.0 port (recommended)
●Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or higher browser (required)
●Adobe Flash Player V9.0 or higher for Internet Explorer (required)
●Internet access
LocationNow Suite can be downloaded at the following URL:
www.LocationNow.com.
2.4.2 Utility Software Usage
Instructions for the Starfinder Aire’s Utility Software can be found in the
“StarFinder Aire Operation Manual”, which includes information on:
● How to install this utility software and its’ drivers on your computer
● How to configure your Starfinder-Aire
● How to upgrade your Starfinder-Aire’s application firmware

3.4.5 Analog Input Port
This analog input port can be used to measure the input signal’s voltage level. Input
signal’s voltage range is 0 to 3.3V.
3.4.6 RS232 Port
The Starfinder-Aire can communicate with other devices using the RS232 port.
