Introduction
Thank you for your interest in the Lantronix SLC 8000 and for trying out the SLC 8000 virtual demo. Here
a few tips to help make the most out of your experience.
The SLC 8000 virtual demo starts off with the unit in a factory default state. Because you may want to
try connecting to a console, there are few settings you may want to configure right away.
Device Ports 1-4 on this demo are connected to simulated serial console ports to allow you to
experience a connection to a remotely managed device. The following steps will allow you to open a
web based SSH session to those console ports.
Additional suggestions will allow you to then look at a log of your session.
NOTE: The demo SLC has a self-signed SSL certificate. At any time when you are opening an SSL based
connection, it is not unexpected to get a security warning. Allow the session to proceed in those cases.
IMPORTANT: The Web SSH client on the SLC requires that the Java plug-in be installed on your browser.
Go to www.java.com for more information on installing Java.

Welcome to the SLC 8000
Upon opening the web session to the SLC 8000, log in using the username demouser and password
demouser. You will be presented with the SLC 8000s home page:
To configure the SLC 8000 to accept a connection on the device port from the Web SSH client there are
a few settings you will need to enable. Start by clicking on the Device Port icon for Port 1.

Once on the page, check the box next to “SSH In:”
Then, on “Apply” at the bottom of the page.
If you want the settings to apply to Port 1, as well as ports 2-4, you can select “IP Settings” from the
drop-down to the right of the “Apply” button, and enter “2-4” in the “to Device Ports:” field, then click
on “Apply”.
Next, you will want to enable WebSSH as a Service.

To enable WebSSH, click on the “Services” tab.
Then, check the “Web SSH:” box
Then, click on “Apply” at the bottom of the page
Next, you can enable Local Logging, so you can review your session.

To enable Local Logging on a port, click on the Device Port icon again.
Then, on the “Logging: Settings” link.
On the Device Ports –Logging page, click on the “Local Logging:” box.
Then, on the “Apply” button at the bottom of the page.
Now, you can launch a Web SSH session to the port.

To launch a WebSSH session, select “WebSSH” from the “Select port for” menu.
Then, click on the port to which you wish to open the WebSSH session
You may get security warnings like this:
Click on the Continue, Allow, or OK buttons for the respective warnings to allow the session.
You will be prompted to enter credentials.
Enter the username demouser and the password demouser and click on “Login”.

After a few moments, you will get a message indicating you are connected.
Press enter to get a login prompt.

The login for all of the consoles is username root and password root.
Each port may have a different simulated server, like a Solaris or Linux server.
Enter commands like “ls” or “cd /” to build up some data in the port log.
To close the session, you can simply click on the X at the top right of the window.

To view a log of the session, click on the “Configuration” button in the “Select port for” menu.
Then, on the Device Port for which you would like to view the log
Then, on the “Logging: Settings” link.
On the “Device Ports –Logging”page, click on the “View Local Log” link.
A log of your session will be displayed.
