IncodeX Stream
HD/SD Live Streaming Encoder
Thank you for purchasing the IncodeX Stream HD/SD live streaming encoder. The IncodeX Stream™
live streaming encoder combined with the subscription-based VieBit™ streaming service allows you
to create your own affordable, high quality live streaming channel.
The IncodeX Stream encoder captures a live video/audio signal from a LEIGHTRONIX server or other
video source and converts the signal into an outbound, HD or SD H.264 digital video stream. The
outbound stream is directed to the VieBit streaming service’s web servers and then simultaneously
distributed to local and worldwide viewers.

Attach your network, power, and signal wiring to the IncodeX Stream according to the instructions below:
Connect the included power cable to the
power cord connector and then plug the
other end into an AC power source.
SETTING UP THE INCODEX STREAM
Leave empty rack spaces above and below the IncodeX Stream. The
IncodeX Stream should not have anything stacked on top of it.
If using, connect your
analog audio source to
the audio inputs.
LEIGHTRONIX strongly recommends the use of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with the IncodeX
Stream. Damage from power loss or spikes is not covered under warranty.
Once the IncodeX Stream encoder is installed, wired, and congured with network settings accord-
ing to the steps in this section, the encoder will automatically start converting the incoming video/
audio input signal into an H.264 video stream. As long as the IncodeX Stream is powered on and
has a connected video input, the encoder will continually output a video stream.
NOTE: For optimal performance, use a dedicated,
DSL Internet business connection with your
IncodeX Stream.
If using an analog video source,
connect your source to the com-
posite video input.
If using a digital video
source, connect your source
to the SDI video input.

3. Congure Your Network Settings.
Automatic Network Conguration
The IncodeX Stream is shipped Dynamic Host Conguration Protocol (DHCP) enabled, meaning that if your network
uses a DHCP server, your encoder will automatically obtain an IP, subnet mask, and gateway address when it is con-
nected to a power source and your network. Skip to Step 4 on page 6.
NOTE: To quickly check if your network is connected to a DHCP server, go to a computer connected to your network
and see if it has been set to use DHCP.
Manual Network Conguration
If your network does not use a DHCP server, you will need to obtain a static IP, subnet mask, and gateway address for
your IncodeX Stream from your network administrator and then replace your IncodeX Stream’s default static network
addresses as follows:
a. Connect your IncodeX Stream’s Ethernet port to the Ethernet port on a laptop or PC with an Ethernet cable.
b. Change the IP address of your computer to a static 10.xx.xx.xx IP address that does not match the default static
IP address of your IncodeX Stream, 10.11.31.2. A good rule of thumb is to just add one to the last value in the
IncodeX Stream’s default static IP address, so you would use “10.11.31.3.”
c. Access the IncodeX Stream’s browser-based interface as follows:
i. Open an Internet browser on the computer connected to your IncodeX Stream.
ii. In the URL address line, enter the IncodeX Stream’s default static IP address, 10.11.31.2, and press enter.
You will be prompted to enter a username and password (see Illustration 1).

iii. In lowercase, enter “admin” into the “User name” eld and ”stream” as the password. Click “Ok” to open the
IncodeX Stream interface in your Internet browser window (see Illustration 2).
iv. Stop the IncodeX Stream from encoding by clicking “Stop Encoder.”
v. Select the “Static” mode from the rst “Network Settings” drop down eld.
vi. Enter the IP, subnet mask, and gateway addresses you have obtained from your network administrator into the
corresponding elds.
NOTE: Be sure to write down your static IP address in a known location so that it is available if needed, as this
information will be needed to access your IncodeX Stream’s interface in the future.
vii. When you have nished entering in your network settings, click the “Apply Settings” button. Your IncodeX
Stream will automatically reboot to apply the network address changes. The IncodeX Stream will resume encod-
ing once it restarts.
viii. Detach the IncodeX Stream’s Ethernet port from your computer or laptop and then connect the encoder to your
network.

UPDATING/CHANGING INCODEX STREAM SYSTEM SETTINGS
Flexible and convenient, the IncodeX Stream includes a browser-based interface that allows you to change your system
settings and perform rmware updates.
To access the IncodeX Stream browser-based interface, perform the following:
1. You will need your IncodeX Stream’s IP address to access the encoder’s browser-based interface. If you are not sure
what your IncodeX Stream’s IP address is, you can obtain it using the set of steps below that correspond to your
network setup:
• DHCP Mode: if your IncodeX Stream automatically gets its network addresses from a DHCP server on your net-
work, you will need to install a third party program such as “Fast Resolver” on a PC connected to the same net-
work and scan for your IncodeX Stream’s MAC address. The IncodeX Stream’s MAC address is the same as its
serial number, which is identied on a sticker on the encoder’s back panel. Once the program nds your IncodeX
Stream, it will provide you with the encoder’s IP address. DHCP assigned network addresses do expire, so you
may need to re-scan your network for your IncodeX Stream the next time you need to access the encoder’s inter-
face.
• Static Mode: if your network does not use a DHCP server, use the IP address assigned by your network adminis-
trator to your IncodeX Stream to access the encoder’s interface. If your IncodeX Stream has not yet been con-
gured with the static addresses for your network, perform the steps in “Manual Network Conguration” on page
4.
2. Open an Internet browser on a computer connected to the same network as your IncodeX Stream.
3. In the URL address line, enter your IncodeX Stream’s IP address and press enter. You will be prompted to enter a
username and password.
4. Enter “admin” into the “User name” eld and “stream” as the password. Click “Ok” to open the IncodeX Stream inter-
face in your Internet browser window.
5. Once you are logged in, you may perform the steps in any of the following subsections.
Specify Audio/Video Input and Encoding Settings
Digital video encoding results are based on a combination of the encoding bit rate and the quality of the input source.
Video being fed to the encoder must have stable sync.
• Input Settings
The IncodeX Stream will accept either composite video with analog audio or HD/SD-SDI video with embedded or
analog audio. Along with connecting your video/audio sources to the correct inputs on the IncodeX Stream’s back
panel, you will also need to tell the IncodeX Stream which back panel input(s) to use during encoding as follows:
1. Stop the IncodeX Stream from encoding by clicking “Stop Encoder.”
2. Choose either “Composite” or “SDI” from the “Video Source” drop down menu to specify the type of video input
signal you will be encoding.
3. Use the “Audio Source” drop down menu to specify your audio encode source as follows:
► If your setup uses the composite video input, the audio selection cannot be changed from “Analog Stereo.”
► If you are choosing to encode a source connected to the HD/SD-SDI video input, you may select “Analog Ste-
reo” to encode analog audio along with it or if there is audio embedded in your HD/SD-SDI video signal, select
the corresponding embedded two-channel audio pair.
4. Click the “Apply Settings” button to make the change(s).
5. Restart the IncodeX Stream encoder by clicking the “Start Encoder” button.
• Encoding Settings
The IncodeX Stream’s video encoding settings are changed within the VieBit Web interface’s control panel. Refer to
the VieBit Streaming Solutions Manual for further instructions.

network addresses. Perform steps iv–vii on page 5.
• DHCP Mode: perform the following steps:
1. Stop the IncodeX Stream from encoding by clicking “Stop Encoder.”
2. Select the “DHCP” mode from the rst “Network Settings” drop down eld.
3. Click the “Apply Settings” button. Your IncodeX Stream will automatically reboot to apply the network mode
change. The IncodeX Stream will resume encoding once it restarts.
Obtain UDP Port Number
The “Outgoing Port#” eld shows you the VieBit service port that receives the IncodeX Stream’s video stream. This is
useful if you wish to only unblock one port on your rewall for UDP trafc between the IncodeX Stream encoder and VieBit
delivery service.
