Thischatercontainsthesafetyinformationthatyoumustbefamiliarwith.
Powercordsandpoweradapters
Useonlytheowercordsandoweradaterssuliedbytheroductmanufacturer.
Theowercordsshallbesafetyaroved.ForGermany,itshallbeH05VV-F,3G,0.75mm2,orbetter.For
othercountries,thesuitabletyesshallbeusedaccordingly.
Neverwraaowercordaroundaoweradaterorotherobject.Doingsocanstressthecordinwaysthat
cancausethecordtofray,crack,orcrim.Thiscanresentasafetyhazard.
Alwaysrouteowercordssothattheywillnotbewalkedon,triedover,orinchedbyobjects.
Protectowercordandoweradatersfromliquids.Forinstance,donotleaveyourowercordorower
adaternearsinks,tubs,toilets,oronfloorsthatarecleanedwithliquidcleansers.Liquidscancausea
shortcircuit,articularlyiftheowercordoroweradaterhasbeenstressedbymisuse.Liquidsalsocan
causegradualcorrosionofowercordterminalsand/ortheconnectorterminalsonaoweradater,
whichcaneventuallyresultinoverheating.
Ensurethatallowercordconnectorsaresecurelyandcomletelyluggedintorecetacles.
Donotuseanyoweradaterthatshowscorrosionattheacinutinsorshowssignsofoverheating(such
asdeformedlastic)attheacinutoranywhereontheoweradater.
Donotuseanyowercordswheretheelectricalcontactsoneitherendshowsignsofcorrosionor
overheatingorwheretheowercordaearstohavebeendamagedinanyway.
Generalsafety
Followtheserulestoensuregeneralsafety:
•Observegoodhousekeeingintheareaofthemachinesduringandaftermaintenance.
•Whenliftinganyheavyobject:
1.Ensureyoucanstandsafelywithoutsliing.
2.Distributetheweightoftheobjectequallybetweenyourfeet.
3.Useaslowliftingforce.Nevermovesuddenlyortwistwhenyouattemttolift.
4.Liftbystandingorbyushinguwithyourlegmuscles;thisactionremovesthestrainfromthe
musclesinyourback.
Attention:
Donotattemttoliftanyobjectsthatweighmorethan16kg(35lb)orobjectsthatyouthinkare
tooheavyforyou.
•Donoterformanyactionthatcauseshazardstothecustomer,orthatmakestheequimentunsafe.
•Beforeyoustartthemachine,ensurethatotherservicereresentativesandthecustomer'sersonnelare
notinahazardousosition.

•Placeremovedcoversandotherartsinasafelace,awayfromallersonnel,whileyouareservicing
themachine.
•Keeyourtoolcaseawayfromwalkareassothatothereolewillnottrioverit.
•Donotwearlooseclothingthatcanbetraedinthemovingartsofamachine.Ensurethatyoursleeves
arefastenedorrolleduaboveyourelbows.Ifyourhairislong,fastenit.
•Inserttheendsofyournecktieorscarfinsideclothingorfastenitwithanonconductivecli,aroximately
8centimeters(3inches)fromtheend.
•Donotwearjewelry,chains,metal-frameeyeglasses,ormetalfastenersforyourclothing.
Remember:Metalobjectsaregoodelectricalconductors.
•Wearsafetyglasseswhenyouare:hammering,drilling,soldering,cuttingwire,attachingsrings,using
solvents,orworkinginanyotherconditionsthatmightbehazardoustoyoureyes.
•Afterservice,reinstallallsafetyshields,guards,labels,andgroundwires.Relaceanysafetydevice
thatiswornordefective.
•Reinstallallcoverscorrectlybeforereturningthemachinetothecustomer.
Electricalsafety
CAUTION:
Electricalcurrentfrompower,telephone,andcommunicationcablescanbehazardous.Toavoid
personalinjuryorequipmentdamage,disconnecttheattachedpowercords,telecommunication
systems,networks,andmodemsbeforeyouopenthecomputercovers,unlessinstructedotherwise
intheinstallationandconfigurationprocedures.
Observethefollowingruleswhenworkingonelectricalequiment.
Important:Useonlyarovedtoolsandtestequiment.Somehandtoolshavehandlescoveredwithasoft
materialthatdoesnotinsulateyouwhenworkingwithliveelectricalcurrents.Manycustomershave,near
theirequiment,rubberfloormatsthatcontainsmallconductivefiberstodecreaseelectrostaticdischarges.
Donotusethistyeofmattorotectyourselffromelectricalshock.
•Findtheroomemergencyower-off(EPO)switch,disconnectingswitch,orelectricaloutlet.Ifanelectrical
accidentoccurs,youcanthenoeratetheswitchorunlugtheowercordquickly.
•Donotworkaloneunderhazardousconditionsornearequimentthathashazardousvoltages.
•Disconnectallowerbefore:
–Performingamechanicalinsection
–Workingnearowersulies
–RemovingorinstallingFieldRelaceableUnits(FRUs)
•Beforeyoustarttoworkonthemachine,unlugtheowercord.Ifyoucannotunlugit,askthecustomer
toower-offthewallboxthatsuliesowertothemachineandtolockthewallboxintheoffosition.
•Ifyouneedtoworkonamachinethathasexosedelectricalcircuits,observethefollowingrecautions:
–Ensurethatanothererson,familiarwiththeower-offcontrols,isnearyou.
Remember:Anotherersonmustbetheretoswitchofftheower,ifnecessary.
–Useonlyonehandwhenworkingwithowered-onelectricalequiment;keetheotherhandinyour
ocketorbehindyourback.
Remember:Theremustbeacomletecircuittocauseelectricalshock.Byobservingtheaboverule,
youmayreventacurrentfromassingthroughyourbody.

–Whenusingatester,setthecontrolscorrectlyandusethearovedrobeleadsandaccessoriesfor
thattester.
–Standonsuitablerubbermats(obtainedlocally,ifnecessary)toinsulateyoufromgroundssuchas
metalfloorstrisandmachineframes.
Observethesecialsafetyrecautionswhenyouworkwithveryhighvoltages;theseinstructionsarein
thesafetysectionsofmaintenanceinformation.Useextremecarewhenmeasuringhighvoltages.
•Regularlyinsectandmaintainyourelectricalhandtoolsforsafeoerationalcondition.
•Donotusewornorbrokentoolsandtesters.
•Neverassumethatowerhasbeendisconnectedfromacircuit.First,checkthatithasbeenowered-off.
•Alwayslookcarefullyforossiblehazardsinyourworkarea.Examlesofthesehazardsaremoistfloors,
nongroundedowerextensioncables,owersurges,andmissingsafetygrounds.
•Donottouchliveelectricalcircuitswiththereflectivesurfaceofalasticdentalmirror.Thesurfaceis
conductive;suchtouchingcancauseersonalinjuryandmachinedamage.
•Donotservicethefollowingartswiththeoweronwhentheyareremovedfromtheirnormaloerating
lacesinamachine:
–Powersulyunits
–Pums
–Blowersandfans
–Motorgenerators
andsimilarunits.(Thisracticeensurescorrectgroundingoftheunits.)
•Ifanelectricalaccidentoccurs:
–Usecaution;donotbecomeavictimyourself.
–Switchoffower.
–Sendanotherersontogetmedicalaid.
Safetyinspectionguide
Theintentofthisinsectionguideistoassistyouinidentifyingotentiallyunsafeconditionsonthese
roducts.Eachmachine,asitwasdesignedandbuilt,hadrequiredsafetyitemsinstalledtorotectusers
andserviceersonnelfrominjury.Thisguideaddressesonlythoseitems.However,goodjudgmentshould
beusedtoidentifyotentialsafetyhazardsduetoattachmentoffeaturesorotionsnotcoveredbythis
insectionguide.
Ifanyunsafeconditionsareresent,youmustdeterminehowserioustheaarenthazardcouldbeand
whetheryoucancontinuewithoutfirstcorrectingtheroblem.
Considertheseconditionsandthesafetyhazardstheyresent:
•Electricalhazards,eseciallyrimaryower(rimaryvoltageontheframecancauseseriousorfatal
electricalshock).
•Exlosivehazards,suchasadamagedCRTfaceorbulgingcaacitor
•Mechanicalhazards,suchaslooseormissinghardware
Theguideconsistsofaseriesofstesresentedinachecklist.Beginthecheckswiththeoweroff,and
theowercorddisconnected.
Checklist:
1.Checkexteriorcoversfordamage(loose,broken,orsharedges).

2.Power-offthecomuter.Disconnecttheowercord.
3.Checktheowercordfor:
a.Athird-wiregroundconnectoringoodcondition.Useametertomeasurethird-wireground
continuityfor0.1ohmorlessbetweentheexternalgroundinandframeground.
b.Theowercordshouldbethearoriatetyeassecifiedintheartslistings.
c.Insulationmustnotbefrayedorworn.
4.Removethecover.
5.Checkforanyobviousalterations.Usegoodjudgmentastothesafetyofanyalterations.
6.Checkinsidetheunitforanyobviousunsafeconditions,suchasmetalfilings,contamination,wateror
otherliquids,orsignsoffireorsmokedamage.
7.Checkforworn,frayed,orinchedcables.
8.Checkthattheower-sulycoverfasteners(screwsorrivets)havenotbeenremovedortameredwith.
Handlingelectrostaticdischarge-sensitivedevices
Anycomuterartcontainingtransistorsorintegratedcircuits(ICs)shouldbeconsideredsensitiveto
electrostaticdischarge(ESD).ESDdamagecanoccurwhenthereisadifferenceinchargebetweenobjects.
ProtectagainstESDdamagebyequalizingthechargesothatthemachine,theart,theworkmat,andthe
ersonhandlingtheartareallatthesamecharge.
Notes:
1.Useroduct-secificESDrocedureswhentheyexceedtherequirementsnotedhere.
2.MakesurethattheESDrotectivedevicesyouusehavebeencertified(ISO9000)asfullyeffective.
WhenhandlingESD-sensitivearts:
•Keetheartsinrotectiveackagesuntiltheyareinsertedintotheroduct.
•Avoidcontactwithothereolewhilehandlingtheart.
•Wearagroundedwriststraagainstyourskintoeliminatestaticonyourbody.
•Preventtheartfromtouchingyourclothing.Mostclothingisinsulativeandretainsachargeeven
whenyouarewearingawriststra.
•Usetheblacksideofagroundedworkmattorovideastatic-freeworksurface.Thematisesecially
usefulwhenhandlingESD-sensitivedevices.
•Selectagroundingsystem,suchasthoselistedbelow,toroviderotectionthatmeetsthesecific
servicerequirement.
Note:TheuseofagroundingsystemisdesirablebutnotrequiredtorotectagainstESDdamage.
–AttachtheESDgroundclitoanyframeground,groundbraid,orgreen-wireground.
–UseanESDcommongroundorreferenceointwhenworkingonadouble-insulatedor
battery-oeratedsystem.Youcanusecoaxorconnector-outsideshellsonthesesystems.
–Usetheroundground-rongoftheaclugonac-oeratedcomuters.
Groundingrequirements
Electricalgroundingofthecomuterisrequiredforoeratorsafetyandcorrectsystemfunction.Proer
groundingoftheelectricaloutletcanbeverifiedbyacertifiedelectrician.

canexplodeifnotproperlyused,handled,ordisposedof.Donot:
