Chapter 2. Get started with your Chromebook
Charge your Chromebook
The USB-C onne tor on your Chromebook works as the power onne tor. Plug in the a power adapter to
harge the built-in battery pa k and provide power to the Chromebook.
Connect to ac power
CAUTION:
All plugs must be firmly and securely inserted into receptacles.
1. Conne t the power ord to the a power adapter.
2. Plug the power adapter into the USB-C onne tor of the Chromebook.
3. Plug the power ord into an ele tri al outlet.
AC power status indicator behavior
The a power status indi ator is next to the USB-C onne tor. The following table shows the indi ator
behaviors and the indi ated power and battery status.

User interface
1. The Laun her button Open the sear h box and App Laun her.
2. App shelf Pin your frequently-used app or Web page to the app shelf for easy a ess.
3. Sear h box and App Laun her • Type the name of your devi e, app, or Web page in the sear h box.
• Open an app qui kly from the App Laun her.
4. Status tray Manage onne tions, updates, and settings. By default, the time, network
onne tion status, battery status, and your a ount pi ture are displayed.
5. Wallpaper Your wallpaper might look different. To hange the wallpaper, right- li k a blank
area of your desktop and sele t Set Wallpaper.

Connect to Wi-Fi
To onne t your Chromebook to Wi-Fi:
1. Cli k your a ount pi ture.
2. Cli k the network i on and turn on the wireless feature.
3. Sele t an available network to onne t. Provide required information if needed.
Get to know YOGA modes (for IP Flex 3 Chrome 11M836 only)
Your omputer display an be rotated to any angle up to 360 degrees.
Attention:
• Do not rotate the omputer display with too mu h for e, or apply too mu h for e to the upper-right or
upper-left orner of the omputer display. Otherwise, the omputer display or hinges might get damaged.
• The keyboard and the pointing devi es are automati ally disabled in stand mode, tent mode, and tablet
mode. Use the tou h s reen to ontrol your omputer instead.

Your Chromebook features the following four YOGA modes. You an swit h among different modes
a ording to your preferen e.
Notebook mode Stand mode
Tent mode Tablet mode
Use the power button
When you open the omputer s reen, the Chromebook automati ally starts. If it doesn’t, press the power
button. You also an use the power button to put your Chromebook to sleep or wake your Chromebook.
For IP Flex 3 Chrome 11M836, the power button is on the right side of the omputer. For details, see “Use
the spe ial keys” on page 15.
For IdeaPad 3 Chrome 14M836, the power button is on the keyboard. The power button has an integrated
LED to show the power status.

Connect to Bluetooth devices
Your Chromebook supports Bluetooth feature. You an onne t your Chromebook to a Bluetooth keyboard,
mouse, speakers, or other Bluetooth devi es.
Note: The Bluetooth devi es must be within a short distan e, usually 10 meters (33 feet), from the
Chromebook.
1. Cli k your a ount pi ture, and then li k the Bluetooth i on.
2. Turn on Bluetooth.
3. Sele t the devi e you want to pair and follow the on-s reen instru tions.
Set the power plan
For ENERGY STAR® ompliant omputers, the following power plan takes effe t when your omputers have
been idle for a spe ified duration:

• Turn off the display: After 7 minutes
• Put Chromebook into sleep: After 30 minutes
To hange the power plan settings:
1. Cli k your a ount pi ture, and then li k the settings i on.
2. Cli k Settings ➙ Device ➙ Power.
3. Follow the on-s reen instru tion to hange the settings as you desire.
To wake your Chromebook from sleep mode, press the power button or any key on the keyboard.
Use the Nano security-lock slot
Lo k your omputer to a desk, table, or other fixtures through a ompatible se urity able lo k.
The slot supports able lo ks that onform to the Kensington NanoSaver® lo k standards using Cleat™
lo king te hnology. Do not attempt to use other types of able lo ks that use a rotating T-bar™ lo king
me hanism. You are responsible for evaluating, sele ting, and implementing the lo king devi e and se urity

• Turn off the omputer before leaning the multi-tou h s reen.
• Use a dry, soft, and lint-free loth or a pie e of absorbent otton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-tou h s reen. Do not apply solvents to the loth.
• The multi-tou h s reen is a glass panel overed with a plasti film. Do not apply pressure or pla e any
metalli obje t on the s reen, whi h might damage the tou h panel or ause it to malfun tion.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate obje ts for input on the s reen.
• Regularly alibrate the a ura y of the finger input to avoid a dis repan y.

Your Chromebook keyboard works just like a onventional keyboard but with a few spe ial keys.

Use the touchpad
You an use the tou hpad to perform various tou h gestures. The following se tion introdu es some
frequently used tou h gestures, su h as tapping, dragging, and s rolling.
Notes:
• When using two or more fingers, ensure that you position your fingers slightly apart.
• Some gestures are only available when you are using ertain apps.
• If the tou hpad surfa e is stained with oil, turn off the omputer first. Then, gently wipe the tou hpad
surfa e with a soft and lint-free loth moistened with lukewarm water or omputer leaner.
