1. Power button/Fingerprint reader* • Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer into
sleep mode.
• Selected models support the ingerprint reader unction. Enroll and
read your ingerprint or user authentication.
2. Power light/Fingerprint reader light* The light shows the power status o the computer. I the computer
includes a ingerprint reader, it can also show the status o the reader.
• Power light
– Solid white: The computer is turned on.
– O : The computer is turned o or in hibernation mode.
– Blinking white: The computer is in sleep mode.
• Fingerprint reader light*
– Blinking ( or two seconds) and then solid amber: The ingerprint
reader is ready.
– Solid white: The ingerprint scan is success ul.
3. Speakers Produce sound.
4. Keyboard Enter characters and interact with programs.
Note: The keyboard also includes hotkeys and unction keys or
changing settings and per orming tasks quickly.
5. Touchpad Per orm inger touch and all the unctions o a traditional mouse.
Note: The touchpad also supports multi-touch unction.
6. Wireless antennas Send and receive radio waves or the built-in wireless LAN (local area
network) and Bluetooth module.

1. Power connector Connect to power with the included power cord and ac power
adapter.
Note: Some IdeaPad 5 (14", 05) and IdeaPad Slim 5 (14", 05) models
do not have an individual power connector. They use the USB-C
connector to charge instead. Please re er to the actual product.
2. Charging light Indicate whether the computer is connected to ac power.
• Solid white: Connected to ac power; battery capacity 91%–100%
• Solid amber: Connected to ac power; battery capacity 1%–90%
• O : Not connected to ac power
3. USB-CTM connector/Power connector Connect to an external display, a storage device, a data device, or to
power.
Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed or connecting external
devices.
4. HDMITM connector Connect to a compatible digital audio device or video monitor, such
as an HDTV.
5. Combo audio jack Connect to headphones or headsets with a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4-pole
plug.
Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. I
you use headsets, choose one with a single plug.
6. Novo button hole* Press the Novo button to open the Novo Button menu. From the
menu, you can choose to open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility, the Boot
menu, or the Windows startup options screen.
7. System status light* Indicate the system status o your computer.
• Solid white: The computer is turned on; battery capacity 21%–
100%
• Blinking quickly: The computer is turned on; battery capacity 1%–
20%
• Blinking slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.

The always-on connector can charge external devices when the
computer is turned o , in sleep or hibernation mode. The always-on
unction can be turned on or o in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.
Note: I Lenovo Vantage is pre-installed on your computer, you can
also set always-on unction rom within that so tware.

Depending on many actors such as the processing capability o the host and peripheral devices, ile
attributes, and other actors related to system con iguration and operating environments, the actual trans er
rate using the various USB connectors on this device will vary and will be slower than the data rate listed
below or each corresponding device.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 0
Learn the basics o Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more in ormation about Windows
10, see the Windows help in ormation.
Windows account
You must create at least one account to use the Windows operating system. It can be either a local account
or a Microso t account.
Local accounts
A local account is created on a particular Windows-enabled device and it can only be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a password or each local account to prevent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microso t account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microso t so tware and services. I you use
Microso t services like OneDrive, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, O ice 365, and Skype, you might already have
one. I you don't have it, you can create one or ree.
There are two main bene its o using a Microso t account:
• Sign in only once. I you use a Microso t account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Skype, Outlook.com, and other Microso t services.
• Settings can be synced. I you use your Microso t account to sign in to multiple Windows-enabled
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
I you are using a local account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microso t account instead.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts.
Step 2. Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Step 3. I you already have a Microso t account, enter the account name and password to sign in.
Otherwise, select Create one to create a new Microso t account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the irst time you use a Microso t account on that
device.
I you want to switch back to use a local account, open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be o the “Administrator” type to add additional user accounts to Windows.
Add additional user accounts i you need to share your computer with amily members or other users.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other users.
Step 2. Select Add someone else to this PC.

Note: To add amily members, you need to sign in with a Microso t account.
Step 3. Set the user name and password or the user account.
Enroll your fingerprint
I your computer includes a ingerprint reader, you can enroll your ingerprint or Windows sign-in.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Sign-in options.
Note: I you are using a local account, the account must be password protected. Otherwise, you
cannot enroll ingerprints.
Step 2. Select Windows Hello Fingerprint ➙ Set up ➙ Get started.
Step 3. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the enrollment. Create a PIN when prompted, in case
your ingerprint cannot be recognized at Windows sign-in.
Note: You can enroll more than one ingerprint.
Windows desktop
1. Account Change account settings, lock the computer, or sign out o the
current account.
2. Documents Open the Documents older, a de ault older to save your received
iles.
3. Pictures Open the Pictures older, a de ault older to save your received
pictures.
4. Settings Open Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into sleep mode.
6. Start button Open the Start menu.
7. Windows Search Enter what you are looking or in the search box and get search
results rom your computer and the Web.
