Chapter 1. Meet yo r comp ter
Front
1. Microphones Capture or record sound and voice.
2. Camera Capture still and moving images for taking photos, recording videos,
and video conferencing.
3. Camera light If the light is on, the camera is in use.
4. Screen Display text, graphics, and videos.
5. Wireless antennas Send and receive radio aves for the built-in ireless LAN (local area
net ork) and Bluetooth module.
Notes:
• The antennas are not visible from the outside of the computer.
• If the location of the antennas is close to the user’s body (< 20 cm),
you can find the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values in the Setup
Guide that comes ith your computer.

Base
1. Po er button/Fingerprint reader • Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer into
sleep mode.
• Fingerprint reader is available on po er button. Enroll and read
your fingerprint for user authentication.
Note: You can turn on the computer by flipping open the LCD screen
if Flip to Boot is enabled.
2. Po er light Indicate the po er status of the computer. The color of the po er
light also reflects the currently activated operation mode. Refer to
“Set operation mode” on page 16 for ho to s itch operation modes.
• Solid on: The computer is turned on.
– White: in balance mode
– Red: in performance mode
– Blue: in quiet mode
– Purple: in custom mode
• Blinking: The computer is in sleep mode.
• Off: The computer is turned off or in hibernation mode.
3. Numeric keypad To enable or disable the numeric keypad, press the Num Lock key.
4. Touchpad Perform finger touch and all the functions of a traditional mouse.
Note: The touchpad also supports multi-touch function.
5. Keyboard Enter characters and interact ith programs.
Note: The keyboard also includes hotkeys and function keys for
changing settings and performing tasks quickly.

1. Ventilation slots (outlet) Maintain the outgoing airflo to dissipate internal heat.
Attention: Do not block the ventilation slots. Other ise, the
computer may overheat.
2. Thunderbolt™ 4 port/Multi-function USB
port
This port varies by model and is either a Thunderbolt 4 (2a) or multi-
function USB (2b) port. It utilizes the USB Type-C® connector and
can be used for connecting:
• USB data devices
• Display devices.
Notes:
• A Thunderbolt 4 port can also be used for connecting Thunderbolt
enabled devices.
• This port does not support video output hen the computer is
orking in discrete graphics card only mode.
• This port also supports USB Po er Delivery and can be used as a
secondary po er input connector. This port does not support
USB Po er Delivery hen the computer battery capacity is 0%.
3. Multi-function USB port This port utilizes the USB Type-C connector and can be used for:
• Connecting USB data devices.
• Connecting display devices.
Note: This port also supports USB Po er Delivery and can be used
as a secondary po er input connector. This port does not support
USB Po er Delivery hen the computer battery capacity is 0%

1. Combo audio jack Connect to headphones or headsets ith a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4-pole
plug.
Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If
you use headsets, choose one ith a single plug.
2. Camera s itch Disable or re-enable the camera.
3. SD card slot Insert an SD card or a MultiMediaCard (MMC) into the slot for data
transfer or storage.
4. Ventilation slots (outlet) Maintain the outgoing airflo to dissipate internal heat.

2. HDMI™ connector Connect to a compatible digital audio device or video monitor, such
as an HDTV.
3. USB 3.2 Gen 2 port This port utilizes the USB Standard-A connector. Connect to a USB-
compatible device, such as a USB keyboard, a USB mouse, a USB
storage device, or a USB printer.
4. USB 3.2 Gen 1 port This port utilizes the USB Standard-A connector. Connect to a USB-
compatible device, such as a USB keyboard, a USB mouse, a USB
storage device, or a USB printer.
5. USB 3.2 Gen 1 port (al ays-on) The al ays-on connector can charge external devices hen the
computer is turned off, in sleep or hibernation mode. The al ays-on
function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is pre-installed on your computer, you can
also set al ays-on function from ithin that soft are.
6. Po er connector Connect to po er ith the included po er cord and ac po er
adapter.
7. USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (al ays-on) The al ays-on connector can charge external devices hen the
computer is turned off, in sleep or hibernation mode. The al ays-on
function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is pre-installed on your computer, you can
also set al ays-on function from ithin that soft are.

Work with Windows
The follo ing table contains Windo s frequently used settings. You can learn the basics and start orking
ith Windo s right a ay.
To configure settings, type the corresponding key ords in the Windo s search box and select the best
match. Follo the on-screen instructions to customize settings.

Connect to Wi-Fi

For models ith a ireless LAN module, you can connect your computer to
a Wi-Fi® net ork. Click the net ork icon in the Windo s notification area,
and then select a net ork for connection.
Note: The ireless LAN module on your computer may support different
standards. For some countries or regions, use of 802.11ax may be disabled
according to local regulations.

Airplane mode Airplane mode is a convenient setting to turn all ireless communications of
your computer on and off. You may need to turn it on hen boarding an
airplane.

Night light mode Night light is a s itch in Windo s that you can turn on and off. When it is
turned on, your screen sho s armer colors and the amount of emitted
blue light is reduced. Enabling night light reduces the chances of developing
eye fatigue or eye strain.

If night light mode is turned on, you can adjust the color temperature of the
screen.
Note: Selected Lenovo computers are lo blue light certified using night
light mode and color temperature settings available in the pre-installed
operating system. These computers are tested ith night light turned on
and color temperature set to 48 or greater.

Updates
Microsoft periodically releases feature and security updates to the Windo s
operating system. Updates that are applicable to your Windo s version are
do nloaded automatically hen your computer is connected to the
Internet. When updates are do nloaded, you are prompted to restart the
computer to install these updates. You can also manually check if there are
available updates for the installed version of Windo s.
Attention: Only use Windo s Update to do nload and install updates.
Updates do nloaded from other sources may include security risks.

• Type Get Help or Tips in the Windo s search box and then press Enter. When the app opens, type the
problem description and select the matched result.
• Visit Microsoft support Web site: https://support.microsoft.com. Enter hat you are looking for in the
search box and get search results.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
They are both apps developed by Lenovo. Using either of them, you can:
• Vie product information and system status
• Manage and change device settings
• Check for and perform system update
Note: This feature is only available on Lenovo Vantage. In Lenovo PC Manager, you can check for and
perform driver update.
Depending on the country or region in hich your computer is purchased, one of the apps may be pre-
installed on your computer. To open it, type its name in the Windo s Search box and select the matched
result. If neither of the apps is pre-installed, you may install one on your o n. Lenovo Vantage is available for
do nload free of charge from the Microsoft Store.
Note: App features are subject to change ith updates and specific features may not be available on all
Lenovo products.
The Novo B tton men
The Novo Button menu can be displayed before the operating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• Open the BIOS/UEFI setup utility
• Open the boot device selection menu
• Open the Windo s startup options screen
Note: From the Windo s startup options screen, you can then choose to

Step 1. Turn on or restart the computer.
Step 2. Press F9 repeatedly.
The Fn key and hotkeys
The Fn key
Many keys on a Lenovo keyboard have dual functions: a default function and a hidden function. The Fn key is
used to modify a dual-function key to activate its hidden function.
Note: The Fn key is located in the lo er left corner on a Lenovo keyboard.

Hotkeys
Hotkeys are dual-function keys ith an icon printed on the key. The icons indicate the hidden functions of the
hotkeys. To use the hidden function, hold do n the Fn key.

Mute/Unmute sound.
Decrease/Increase system volume.
Mute/Unmute the microphone.
Increase/Decrease screen brightness.
S itch display devices.
Turn airplane mode on and off.
Display an app launcher for quick access to Lenovo apps and services.
Note: For some models, you may need to connect to the Internet and complete
system update for this function to take effect.
Enable/Disable the touchpad.
Display thumbnails of all open apps.
Open the Windo s Calculator app.
Open the Windo s Snipping tool.
Play or pause playback of media.
Stop playback of media.
Go to the previous media file in the playlist or folder.
Go the next media file in the playlist or folder.
Turn on/off or adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight.
Note: This hotkey must al ays be used hile holding do n the Fn key. Selected
models include a keyboard ith multi-color backlight. For such a keyboard, this
hotkey s itches among several predefined lighting patterns. Lighting patterns are
customizable in Lenovo Vantage or Legion Zone.

The FnLock switch
The FnLock is a s itch that reverses the default and hidden function of a hotkey. The FnLock s itch shares
the ESC key (in the upper left corner of the keyboard). To turn it on or off, press Fn + ESC. The follo ing table
provides an example of ho the FnLock s itch changes the default function of the F1 key.
