Chapter 1. Meet your computer
Front
1. Microphones Capture or record sound and voice.
2. Infrared camera Sign in to Windows with face authentication. See “Set up face recognition” on page 10.
3. Camera Take pictures or record videos by selecting Camera from the Start menu.
Note: You can install and use other apps that support photographing, video chat, and
videoconferencing.
4. Camera light Indicate whether the camera is in use.
5. ToF sensor Detect user behavior and adjust settings automatically.
6. Screen Display text, graphics, and videos.

Base
1. Wireless antennas Send and receive radio waves for the wireless LAN/Bluetooth module.
Note: The antennas are not visible from the outside of the computer.
2. Power button
Press it to turn on the computer or put the computer to sleep mode.
To turn off the computer, open the Start menu, select Power, and then select Shut
down.
The light on the power button shows the system status of your computer.
• On: The computer is on.
• Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking rapidly: The computer is entering sleep or hibernation mode.
• Blinking slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.
3. Speakers Produce sound.
4. Touchpad Perform finger touch and all the functions of a traditional mouse.

Connect to ac power with the included power cord and ac power adapter. When not
connected with the ac power adapter, it can also be used to connect external devices.
Note: An appropriate USB-C cable is required for connecting external devices.
2. Charging light Indicate whether the computer is connected to ac power.
• Solid white: onnected to ac power; battery capacity 91% – 100%
• Solid amber: connected to ac power; battery capacity 1% – 90%
• Off: not connected to ac power
3. Combo audio jack Connect headphones or headsets with a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch), 4-pole plug.
Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If you use
headsets, choose one with a combined plug.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows help information.
Windows account
You must create at least one account to use the Windows operating system. It can be either a local account
or a Microsoft account.
Local accounts
A local account is created on a particular Windows-enabled device and it can only be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a password for each local account to prevent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microsoft account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microsoft software and services. If you use
Microsoft services like OneDrive, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Skype, you might already have
one. If you don't have it, you can create one for free.
There are two main benefits of using a Microsoft account:
• Sign in only once. If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Skype, Outlook.com, and other Microsoft services.
• Settings can be synced. If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to multiple Windows-enabled
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
If you are using a local account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microsoft account instead.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ᇆAccounts.
Step 2. Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Step 3. If you already have a Microsoft account, enter the account name and password to sign in.
Otherwise, select Create one to create a new Microsoft account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the first time you use a Microsoft account on that
device.
If you want to switch back to use a local account, open the Start menu and select Settings ᇆAccounts ᇆ
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be of the “Administrator” type to add additional user accounts to Windows.
Add additional user accounts if you need to share your computer with family members or other people.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ᇆAccounts ᇆFamily & other people.
Step 2. Select either Add a family member or Add someone else to this PC.

Note: By default, you are prompted to add Microsoft accounts. If you don’t know the person’s
Microsoft account, select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information. Follow on-screen
instructions to create a Microsoft account for the person. Alternatively, select Add a user without a
Microsoft account to create a local account for the person.
Set up face recognition
If your computer includes a Windows Hello-compatible infrared camera, you can set up face recognition to
sign in with your face.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ᇆAccounts ᇆSign-in options.
Note: If you are using a local account, the account must be password protected. Otherwise, you
cannot set face recognition.
Step 2. Under Face Recognition, select Set up ᇆGet started.
Step 3. Follow on-screen instructions to finish face recognition.It is recommended that you create a PIN
when prompted. It can be used to sign in to Windows in cases face recognition does not work.

Windows desktop
1. Account Change account settings, lock the computer, or sign out of the
current account.
2. Settings Launch Settings.
3. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into sleep.
4. Start button Open the Start menu.
5. Windows Search Enter what you are looking for in the search box and get search
results from your computer and the Web.
6. Task View Display all opened apps and switch among them.
7. Windows notification area Display notifications and status of some features.
8. Battery status icon Display power status and change battery or power settings.
9. Network icon Connect to an available wireless network and display the network
status. When connected to a wired network, the icon changes to .
10. Action center Display the latest notifications from apps and provide quick access to
some features.
Open the Start menu
• Click the Start button.
• Press the Windows logo key on the keyboard.
Open Control Panel
• Open the Start menu and select Windows System ᇆControl Panel.
• Use Windows Search.

Open an app
• Open the Start menu and select the app you want to open.
• Use Windows Search.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
If your computer includes a wireless adapter, you can connect your computer to Wi-Fi networks.
Step 1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of nearby networks is displayed.
Note: If no network is displayed, check whether the airplane mode is turned off.
Step 2. Select a network and click Connect. Provide security key if prompted.
Note: The network key is usually managed by the network administrator.
Forget a Wi-Fi network
Windows saves a list of Wi-Fi networks you have connected to, along with their passwords and other
settings. By doing this, you computer is automatically connected when it is in range of a previously
connected network. However, if the network password has been changed, you need to forget the network in
order to enter the new password.
Step 1. Select Start ᇆNetwork & Internet ᇆWi-Fi.
Step 2. Click Manage known networks.
Step 3. Click the network name and click Forget.
Turn on or off airplane mode
Airplane mode is a convenient setting to turn on or off all wireless communication of your computer. You may
need to turn it on when boarding an airplane.
Step 1. Click the notification icon in the Windows notification area.
Step 2. Click the airplane mode icon to turn it on or off.
Note: Click Expand if you cannot find the airplane mode icon.
Connect to an external display
You can connect your computer to another screen, TV, or projector to give presentation or extend your
workspace.
Connect to a wired display
Use the Thunderbolt 3 connector to connect your computer to an external display.
If the external display supports input through a USB-C connector, use a USB-C to USB-C cable to connect
your computer to the display.
Note: The USB-C to USB-C cable is typically included with display that supports input through a USB-C
connector. If it is not, you need to purchase the cable separately.
If the external display does not support input through a USB-C connector, you may need to purchase and
use one of the following adapters to connect your computer to an external display.

USB-C to DisplayPortറ
If your computer cannot detect the external display, right-click a blank area on the desktop, and then select
Display settings ᇆDetect.
Connect a wireless display
• Open the Start menu, and then click Settings ᇆDevices ᇆBluetooth & other devices ᇆAdd
Bluetooth or other device.
• Click the action center icon in the Windows notification area and click Connect. Select the wireless
display and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: The target display must be Miracast® certified.
Set the display mode
Press and select one of the following display modes.
• PC screen only: Displays the video output only on your computer screen.
Note: Depending on the situation, you might see Disconnect, PC screen only, Computer only, or
Disconnect projector.
• Duplicate: Displays the same video output on both your computer screen and an external display.
• Extend: Extends the video output from your computer display to an external display. You can drag and
move items between the two displays.
• Second screen only: Displays the video output only on an external display.
Note: Depending on the situation, you might see Projector only or Second screen only.
If you show programs using DirectDraw or Direct3D® in full-screen mode, only the main display shows the
video output.
Change display settings
1. Right-click a blank area on the desktop and select Display settings.
2. Select the display that you want to configure.
3. Change display settings of your preference.
You can change the settings for both the computer display and the external display. For example, you can
define which one is the main display and which one is the secondary display. You also can change the
resolution and orientation.
Note: If you set a higher resolution for the computer display than the external display, only part of the screen
can be displayed on the external display.
Connect Bluetooth-enabled devices
If your computer includes a Bluetooth adapter, you can connect Bluetooth-enabled devices to your
computer.
Note: Keyboards, mouses, headphones, and speakers are all available as Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Step 1. On the external device, turn on Bluetooth and set the device discoverable.
Note: Read the documentation that came with the external device for details.

Step 2. Open the Start menu, and then select Settings ᇆDevices ᇆBluetooth & other devices.Make
sure the Bluetooth switch is turned on.
Step 3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device ᇆBluetooth. A list of nearby devices is displayed.
Step 4. Select the device name and follow on-screen instructions to connect the device.
Windows label
Your computer might have a Windows 10 Genuine Microsoft label affixed to its cover depending on the
following factors:
• Your geographic location
• Edition of Windows 10 that is preinstalled
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx for illustrations of the various types of
Genuine Microsoft labels.
• In the People’s Republic of China, the Genuine Microsoft label is required on all computer models
preinstalled with any version of Windows 10.
• In other countries and regions, the Genuine Microsoft label is required only on computer models licensed
for Windows 10 Pro.
The absence of a Genuine Microsoft label does not indicate that the preinstalled Windows version is not
genuine. For details on how to tell whether your pre-installed Windows product is genuine, refer to the
information provided by Microsoft at:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/default.aspx
There are no external, visual indicators of the Product ID or Windows version for which the computer is
licensed. Instead, the Product ID is recorded in the computer firmware. Whenever a Windows 10 product is
installed, the installation program checks the computer firmware for a valid, matching Product ID to complete
the activation.
In some cases, an earlier Windows version might be preinstalled under the terms of the Windows 10 Pro
license downgrade rights.
Use Lenovo Vantage
The pre-installed Lenovo Vantage is a customized one-stop solution to help you maintain your computer with
automated updates and fixes, configure hardware settings, and get personalized support.
Access Lenovo Vantage
Open the Start menu and click Lenovo Vantage. You also can type /HQRYR9DQWDJHin the Search box.
To download the latest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Microsoft Store and search by the app name.
Key features
Lenovo Vantage makes periodic updates of the features to keep improving your experience with your
computer.
