Chapter 1. Meet your computer
Front
1. Micro hones Ca ture or record sound and voice.
2. Ambient color sensor • Detect the surrounding light intensity and correlated color
tem erature (CCT).
• Adjust the brightness and dis lay CCT of the built-in screen.
Note: To turn off the automatic brightness adjustment and ada tive
color, ty e dis lay settings in the Windows search box and then ress
Enter.
3. Infrared LED Emit infrared light for face authentication.
4. Camera • Ca ture still and moving images for taking hotos, recording
videos, and video chatting.
• Ca ture your face images for face authentication.
Note: Use Windows Hello to enroll your face for face
authentication.
5. Camera light If the light is on, the camera is in use.
6. Time of flight (ToF) sensor Detect human resence in front of the com uter for facilitating zero
touch and other convenient features. See “Laser safety for the ToF
sensor” on age 8.
7. Screen Dis lay text, gra hics, and videos. Selected models su ort multi-
touch function.

Base
1. Wireless antennas Send and receive radio waves for the built-in wireless LAN (local area
network) and Bluetooth module.
Notes:
• The antennas are not visible from the outside of the com uter.
• If the location of the antennas is close to the user’s body (< 20 cm),
you can find the S ecific Absor tion Rate (SAR) values in the Setup
Guide that comes with your com uter.
2. Keyboard Enter characters and interact with rograms.
Note: The keyboard also includes hotkeys and function keys for
changing settings and erforming tasks quickly.
3. S eakers Produce sound.
4. Touch ad Perform finger touch and all the functions of a traditional mouse.
Note: The touch ad also su orts multi-touch function.

2. Power connector/USB-C® connector • Connect to ower with the included ower cord and ac ower
ada ter.
• Connect to an external dis lay, storage, or data devices.
Note: An a ro riate ada ter may be needed for connecting to
external devices.
3. Combo audio jack Connect to head hones or headsets with a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4- ole
lug.
Note: This jack does not su ort standalone external micro hones. If
you use headsets, choose one with a single lug.

1. USB-C connector Connect to an external storage or data devices.
Note: An a ro riate ada ter may be needed for connecting to
external devices. This connector cannot be used to connect external
dis lay devices.
2. Camera switch Turn the camera on or off.
3. Power button Press the button to turn on the com uter or ut the com uter into
slee mode.
Note: You can turn on the com uter by fli ing o en the LCD screen
if Fli to Boot is enabled.
4. Power light • On: The com uter is turned on.
• Off: The com uter is turned off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking: The com uter is in slee mode.

C UTION:
This device contains a laser that could be damaged during repair or disassembly, which could result

Work with Windows
The following table contains Windows frequently used settings. You can learn the basics and start working
with Windows right away.
To configure settings, ty e the corres onding keywords in the Windows search box and select the best
match. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize settings.

Connect to Wi-Fi
networks
For models with a wireless LAN module, you can connect your com uter to
a Wi-Fi® network. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area,
and then select a network for connection.
Note: The wireless LAN module on your com uter may su ort different
standards. For some countries or regions, use of 802.11ax may be disabled
according to local regulations.
Wi-Fi
Air lane mode Air lane mode is a convenient setting to turn all wireless communications of
your com uter on and off. You may need to turn it on when boarding an
air lane.

Night light mode Night light is a switch in Windows that you can turn on and off. When it is
turned on, your screen shows warmer colors and the amount of emitted
blue light is reduced. Enabling night light reduces the chances of develo ing
eye fatigue or eye strain.

If night light mode is turned on, you can adjust the color tem erature of the
screen.
Note: Selected Lenovo com uters are low blue light certified. These
com uters are tested with night light turned on and color tem erature set to
the default value of 48.

U dates
Microsoft eriodically releases feature and security u dates to the Windows
o erating system. U dates that are a licable to your Windows version are
downloaded automatically when your com uter is connected to the
Internet. When u dates are downloaded, you are rom ted to restart the
com uter to install these u dates. You can also manually check if there are
available u dates for the installed version of Windows.
ttention: Only use Windows U date to download and install u dates.
U dates downloaded from other sources may include security risks.

• Visit Microsoft su ort Web site: htt s://su ort.microsoft.com. Enter what you are looking for in the
search box and get search results.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
They are both a s develo ed by Lenovo. Using either of them, you can:
• View roduct information and system status
• Manage and change device settings
• Check for and erform system u date
Note: This feature is only available on Lenovo Vantage. In Lenovo PC Manager, you can check for and
erform driver u date.
De ending on the country or region in which your com uter is urchased, one of the a s may be re-
installed on your com uter. To o en it, ty e its name in the Windows Search box and select the matched
result. If neither of the a s is re-installed, you may install one on your own. Lenovo Vantage is available for
download free of charge from the Microsoft Store.
Note: A features are subject to change with u dates and s ecific features may not be available on all
Lenovo roducts.
The Novo Button menu
The Novo Button menu can be dis layed before the o erating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• O en the BIOS/UEFI setu utility
• O en the boot device selection menu
• O en the Windows startu o tions screen
Note: From the Windows startu o tions screen, you can then choose to

Open the Novo Button menu
For Lenovo com uters with a Novo button, you can ress the button to o en the Novo Button menu.

Interact with your computer
Keyboard hotkeys
Some keys on the keyboard are rinted with icons. These keys are called hotkeys and can be ressed alone
or in combination with the Fn key to o en certain a s or change certain settings quickly. The functions of
the hotkeys are symbolized by the icons rinted on them.

Decrease/Increase system volume.
Mute/Unmute the micro hone.
Increase/Decrease screen brightness.

Turn on/off or adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight.
Note: This hotkey must be used with the Fn key.
Hotkey mode
Some hotkeys share keys with function keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that
changes how hotkeys (or function keys) are used.

Note: Hotkeys that do not share keys with function keys are not affected by the hotkey mode setting. They
should always be used with the Fn key.
The FnLock switch
The FnLock is a switch that reverses the default and hidden function of a hotkey. The following table
rovides an exam le of how the FnLock switch changes the default function of the F1 key.

Note: The F1 function is a lication-de endent. It may have no function if the active a lication does not
have a definition for the key.
The FnLock switch shares the ESC key (in the u er left corner of the keyboard). To turn it on or off, ress Fn
+ ESC.
Dual-function keys without printed icons
Some dual-function keys share keys with letter keys and numeric keys. Such keys do not have a dedicated
rinted icon. The following table lists the hidden functions for these keys.
