1.4 BASIC DATA
1.4.1 Brief Description
T he L - 13 AC BLANIK is a two-seat cantilever hi gh-w i ng monoplane of
~ a ll -me tal st r ucture wi th iabric - covered control surfaces. Both flight
compartments are cove red by si ng l e-sect i on canopy which may be
emergency jettisoned in flig h t.
In both flight compartments are located all elements to contro l the sai l pla-
ne including instrument pane ls wi th flight and nav i gat i on instruments. The
sa il plane is provided with hooks to enable winch and aero t ow l aunching.
Both fli ght comportments are vented by air bled from fuse l age nose, and
its supp ly may be co n trolled. There is a baggage compartment beh i nd the
rear f ligh t compartment. Both flight compa r tments are upho lst ered. The
wi
ng i nc l ud i ng ailerons and air brakes is attached by six bolts to t he
fu selage. A vertical fin with r udder is attac hed to the rear f use l age. The
ho r izonta l tail is al so at tached to the end of fuse l age . The eleva t or and
ai lerons are manua l con t rols by con tr ol cab les and push - pull r ods. The
rud der contro l is also manua lly ope r ated by the feet , using contro l cab les
and rods .
The air brakes are control led by levers. The el evator trim t ab is al so l ever
contro ll ed. The sail plane is fi tted wi th a ma in and ta il -whee l type l anding
gear. The main l and i ng gear is mechanica lly retractable wi th a hydropneu -
matic shock absorber and a wheel with mechanically ac t ua t ed brake. The
tail landing gear is a tail whee l with sh ock absorber.

up and pu ll to the rear. Push the hand le downwa r ds to l ock it in th e
ret r acted pos i tion.
Ma in l and ing gear exte nsion
To extend the m ain landing gear , liit the handle and move it fo rward. Push
the ha ndle dow n to l ock it in the extended posi ti on. The l anding gea r is in
the l
ocked pos iti on if the han dle can no t be moved rearwa rd.

2.10 FLIGHT CREW
The flight crew may consist of one or two pilots. If the sailplan e is to be
flown solo, the pilot must sit in the front seat and his weigt1t (fr1 ::; 1 uc ling
parachute) must be at least 154 lb (70 kg). If the pilo t 's weight is loss
than 154 lb (70 kg), it is necessary to use the cushi on wi th 33 IL; (15 kg )
ball ast in front cockp it. The rear seat must be secured aft usin g the safet y
belt and shoulder ha rnesses.
2.11 KINDS OF OPERATION
The sa ilplane is certified in aerobat ic category to allow approve d
aerobatic manoeuvres (see para. 2.6). Onty day VFR flights and cloud
flights are permitted . Intention al flights in icing conditions are
prohibited
