3-2. BEFORE STARTING TO WASH
•Check all pockets to make sure that they are empty. Things s ch as nails, hairclips, matches, pens,
coins, and keys can damage both yo r washer and yo r clothes.
•Mend any torn arments or loose buttons. Tears or holes may become larger d ring washing.
• Remove belts, nderwires, etc. to prevent damage to the machine or yo r clothes.
• Pretreat any dirt and stains.
• Make s re the clothes are washable in water.
• Check the washing instr ctions.
• Remove tiss e in pockets.
To get the best res lts, different fabrics need to be washed in different ways.
• SOIL (Heavy, Normal, Light) Separate clothes according to the type and amo nt of soil.
• COLOR (Whites, Lights, Darks) Separate white fabrics from colored fabrics.
• LINT (Lint prod cers, Collectors) Separate lint prod cers and lint collectors.
Lint Prod cers Terry cloth, Chenile, Towels, Nappies, Diapers
Lint Collectors Synthetics, Cord roy, Permanent Press, Socks

Sorting
Check before Loading
* Look for a care label on yo r clothes. This will tell yo abo t the fabric content of yo r garment
and how it sho ld be washed.
Sort clothes into loads that can be washed with the same wash cycle, water temperat re and spin speed.
Care Labels
Use nylon nets for long, delicate items. For la ndry with long strings or long length , a net
will prevent tangling d ring washing.
Fasten zippers, hook, and strin s to make s re that
these items don't snag on other clothes.
Nylon net is not s pplied by LG.
Clothes like downs and woollens are light weight, large and float easily.
Use a nylon net and wash them in a small amo nt of water. If the la ndry floats d ring the wash
cycle, it may become damaged. Use dissolved detergent to prevent the detergent from cl mping.
Li ht and Lar e-sized clothin
Lon laundry items
Do not wash fabrics containing flammable materials (waxes, cleaning fl ids, etc.).
Load Size
The water level sho ld j st cover the clothes. Adj st the load size accordingly.
Loosely load clothes no higher than the top row of holes in the washer t b. To
add items after washer has started, press Start b tton and s bmerge additional
items. Close the lid and press Start b tton again to restart.
Loading
• Pretreat shirt collars and c ffs with a pre-wash prod ct or liq id detergent when placing them in the washer.
Before washing treat special stains with bar soaps, liq id detergent or a paste of water and gran lar detergent.
• Use a pretreat soil and stain remover.
Treat stains AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The longer they are left the harder they are to remove.
Pretreatment on stains or heavy soil
Fire Hazard
Never place items in the washer that are
dampened with gasoline or other
flammable fl ids.
No washer can completely remove oil.
Do not dry anything that has ever had any
type of oil on it (incl ding cooking oils).
Doing so can res lt in death, explosion, or
fire.
WARNING

12
• The temperat re of the water impacts the effectiveness of all la ndry additives and therefore, the cleaning
res lts. We recommend temperat res of:
- HOT 49~60°C…(120-140˚F) White items, diapers, nderclothing and heavily soiled, colorfast items.
- WARM 29~40°C…(85-105˚F) Most items
- COLD* 18~24°C…(65-75˚F) Only very bright colors with light soil.
• When washing in cold water additional steps may be needed:
- Adj st detergent amo nt and pre-dissolve detergent in warm water
- Pretreat spots and stains
- Soak heavily soiled items
- Use appropriate bleach
* Temperat re below 18°C…(65˚F) will not activate la ndry additives and may ca se lint, resid e, poor cleaning,
etc. In addition, detergent man fact res and care labels define cold water as 26~29°C…(80-85˚F).
If the temperat re of the water in the t b is too cold for yo r hands, the detergent will not activate and clean
effectively.
Usin Deter ent
Detergent
Follow the detergent package directions. Using too little detergent is a common ca se of la ndry problems.
Use more detergent if yo have hard water, large loads, greasy or oily soils or lower water temperat re.
Choosing the right detergent
We recommend the se of domestic detergent, (powder, liq id or concentrated). Soap flakes or gran lated
soap powders sho ld not be sed in yo r washing machine. When washing woolens remember to se
detergent s itable for washing woolens.
Water temperat re
Usin Water
• The machine sets the appropriate temperat re a tomatically according to the wash program .
• Yo can change the water temperat re by pressing the WATER TEMP b tton.
• This machine detects the q antity of la ndry a tomatically, then sets the water
level and proper amo nt of detergent.
• When yo select a wash program, the water level and amo nt of detergent (to be
sed) will be shown on the control panel.
• The following table shows the amo nt of water.
• When the water level is a tomatically detected, it may differ depending on the
q antity of la ndry even tho gh the same water level is indicated on the control
panel.
• The amo nt of a c p in the diagram is abo t 40g for concentrated detergent.
Amo nt of Water Level
Attention
If iron is present in the water the clothes may become an all-over yellow or they may be stained with brown
or orange spots or streaks. Iron is not always visible. Installation of water softener or an iron filter may be

How m ch detergent
When yo select a wash program the water level and the amo nt of detergent (to be sed) will be shown on the
control panel. The amo nt of a c p in the diagram is abo t 40g for concentrated detergent.
The correct amo nt of detergent will vary depending on the amo nt of soil in yo r clothes (Jeans and work
cloches may need more detergent, while bath towels s ally need less.).
For liq id and concentrated detergents, follow the recommendations of the detergent man fact rer.
Note: To check you are usin the correct amount of deter ent, lift the lid of your machine about half-
way throu h the wash. There should be a thin layer of foam over the surface of the water. Lots of foam
may look ood, but it does not contribute to cleanin your clothes. No foam means not enou h
deter ent has been used; soil and lint can settle back on the clothes or the washin machine.
If excess deter ent is used, the rinse will not be as clean and efficient. Also, it could cause
environmental pollution, so use it accordin ly.
Open the detergent dispenser and deposit the appropriate amo nt
of detergent where yo deposit the detergent Powder
Detergent dispenser. Some detergents MUST be f lly
dissolved before adding to yo r machine to get the best
wash res lts. Check the instr ctions on the detergent packet.
If yo se powdered detergent it is essential that the req ired
amo nt be f lly dissolved in very hot water before being added to warm or hot water for the act al wash.
Pre-dissolving detergent in warm water when washing in cold water can improve its performance.
Attention
n
Never po r ndil ted liq id bleach directly onto clothes or into the wash basket.
This may ca se change of color or damage the la ndry.
n
Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids s ch as vinegar and/or r st remover.
Mixing can red ce a toxic gas which may ca se death.

If you wish to use fabric softener we recommend
Attention
nDo not mix with detergent or bleach.
nNever po r fabric softener directly on clothes. It may stain them.
nDo not stop the washer d ring the first spin for timely dispensing.
nOption washing is not designed to be sed with fabric softener dispenser.
Scrud(Waxy Build up)
Scr d is the name given to the waxy b ild- p that can occ r within any washer when the fabric softener
comes into contact with detergent. This b ild- p is not bro ght abo t by a fa lt in the machine.
If scrud is allowed to build-up in the machine it can result in stains on your clothes or an unpleasant
smell in your washer.
• Using fabric softener sparingly.
• When filling the dispenser, do not splash or overfill.
• Clean dispenser as soon as the cycle is finished.
• Clean yo r machine reg larly. (refer to page 23)
• Cold water washing increases the chance of this b ild- p occ rring. We recommend a reg lar warm or hot
wash e.g. every 5th wash sho ld be at least a warm one.
• Fabric softener of thinner consistency is less likely to leave resid e on the dispenser and contrib te to a
b ild- p.
Usin Fabric Softener
• Dil te fabric softener with water.
Undil ted fabric softener may res lt in spots that look like oil stains.
• Meas re and add the recommended amo nt of fabric softener into the
compartment marked with this symbol( ).
Follow man fact rer’s direction.
FFabric softener is a tomatically dispensed in the final rinse with indication
beep.
FIf yo want extra rinse, you must add fabric softener manually when
indication beep rings in the final rinse. This maximize the fabric softener f nction.
• Do not overfill. The dispenser hold max 35mL.
Never add more than 35mL.
Overfilling can ca se early dispensing of the fabric softener
which co ld res lt in stained clothes. A c p with a po ring spo t will help yo avoid spilling.
• The effect of adding fabric softener may vary according to its viscosity. The stickier fabric softener makes its
effect the lower. For a sticky fabric softener it is recommended that it be dil ted with water, then be
man ally p t d ring the time when the washer beeps several times before the final rinse. This f nction
informing correct time to dispense man ally is optionally applied to some models. Please keep it in mind
that fabric softener has to be dil ted with water before dispensed and never po red directly on clothes.

When setting the water level man ally, do
not set to MEDIUM to prevent damage to
la ndry.
Washing with hot water may damage the
la ndry (Water is set to cold
a tomatically). Ens re that the load is
nder 2kg.
In order to avoid damage to la ndry,
the spin cycle may appear slow.
This also avoids wrinkles and clothing
may still contain some water. This is
normal.
Speedy Soak Wash cannot be selected
for the Wool Wash program.
If wool wash is selected, Gentle Spin will
be set a tomatically.
