Telephony Functions Linksys SPA94x - FAQ’s
QHow do I answer a call?
AJust pick up the handset when your phone is ringing.
Q How do I make a call?
A Simply lift the receiver, dial the desired number and press the button under
‘dial’ on your handset display to make the call. Alternatively you can enter #
immediately after your number to signal that the number is complete and
ready for dialing. Please note that the full area dial code is required for all
numbers dialled, even local numbers within your area code. Note: you do not
need to dial ‘9’ before your number.
QHow do I use the speaker-phone?
APress the button with the speaker icon on it to activate the loudspeaker and
microphone. This button is located at the bottom right of the handset . You
can do this in place of lifting the handset to initiate or answer a call, or you can
press the speaker button at any time during a call to switch from receiver to
loud-speaker mode. When the speaker-phone has been activated you may
replace the receiver and remain in call. Pressing the speaker button with the
receiver replaced will end the call.
Q How do I check for Voicemail messages…
Q1 From my phone?
A1 You can access your Voicemail box by pressing the button with the
envelope icon towards the right side of your handset or by dialing 1571 from
your handset. Enter your password when prompted to do so, followed by #
(default 1234). Verbal instructions accompany each selection to help you
manage your Voicemail. The red lamp at the top of your handset will light
when you have unread messages. This is also accompanied by a stuttered
dial-tone.
Q2 When I am away from my phone?
A2 You can access your Voicemail box from your mobile or any other phone
by dialing the direct number (DDI) for your line (e.g. 0207 123 4567) and
pressing the * key once you hear the greeting begin to play. Enter your
password when prompted to do so, followed by # (default 1234).
QHow do I mute the-phone?
ATo disconnect the microphone on your handset temporarily whilst you are in a
call, if you want an aside with someone at your end for example, press the
button with the crossed-through microphone icon once, to the right of the
handset keypad. To re-activate the microphone press this button once again.

AWhen you are in a call press the ‘+’ or ‘-‘ end of the long button with the
speaker icon, located at the bottom right of the handset keypad, to raise or
lower the volume of the phone.
QHow do I change the ringer volume?
AWith the receiver on the hook, press the ‘+’ or ‘-‘ end of the long button with
the speaker icon, located at the bottom right of the handset keypad, to raise or
lower the volume of the ringer.
QHow do I put a call on hold?
ASimply press the long button with the hand icon on the right of your handset to
place a call on hold. Press the red flashing line button on the right side of the
handset to retrieve the call.
Q Can I transfer a call to another number?
A To transfer a call, first press the button under ‘xfer’ on the display. You should
now have a dial tone whilst your original call is on hold. Dial the number of the
party you wish to transfer the call to and press the button under ‘dial’ on your
display to make the call. When you have introduced the call to the third party,
press the button under ‘xfer’ on the display once again to connect the call and
complete the transfer. You may then replace the receiver on the hook. You
do not need to wait for an answer before pressing the button under ‘xfer’ on
the display, the call will be ‘blind’ transferred anyway provided the number you
are transferring to is ringing.
Q Can I make a three-way call?
A To make a three-way conference call, press the button under ‘conf’ on the
display whilst you are in a normal call. You should now have a dial tone whilst
your original call is on hold. Dial the number of the party you wish to connect
in and press the button under ‘dial’ on your display to make the call. When
you have introduced the conference to the third party, press the button under
‘conf’ on the display once again to connect the call and begin the three-way
conference. If either of the other parties hang up, you will stay connected to
the remaining party until the call is ended normally by hanging up. If you wish
to exit the conference, but leave the other two parties connected, press the
button under ‘join’ on the display. The other two parties will remain in call until
they hang up.
QWhat if I do not want to be disturbed by incoming calls for a while?
ASimply press the button under ‘dnd’ on your display and incoming calls will be
diverted straight to your voicemail. When you wish to receive calls once more,
press ‘dnd’ once more.
QCan I forward calls to my mobile when I am away from my phone?

the phone number you wish to forward to. When you want to receive calls on
your handset once again, just press ‘cfwd’ once more to clear the call forward
settings.
QWhat does it mean when the red light on the top of my handset flashes, the
line button flashes red and I hear an intermittent tone when I am in a call?
AThis indicates that you have another incoming call waiting for your attention.
Now you have some choices:
1. To ignore the incoming call and continue your first call, do nothing. The
new incoming call will be routed to your voicemail.
2. To answer the incoming call and place your existing call on hold, press
the flashing red line button on the right side of your handset. To toggle
between calls just press the flashing red line button once each time you
want to swap calls. The other caller will be placed on hold each time.
3. To conference in the new caller for a three-way discussion with your
exiting call, press the flashing red line button on the right side of your
handset to answer the new call and place your existing call on hold. Then
press the button under ‘confLx’ on your display. The three way call will
now be in progress.
4. To step out of all calls and connect the first and third parties, press the
flashing red line button on the right side of your handset to answer the
new call and place your existing call on hold. Then press the button under
‘xferLx’. The other two parties will now be connected and you will be out
of the call.
QHow can I find out who has called me recently or which numbers I have
dialled?
AFirst press the set-up button on the handset, the one that looks like a page
with the corner turned down. Then scroll down to option 3 – ‘Call History’ and
press the button under ‘Select’ on the LCD display. Here you can choose from
further menu options for dialled, answered or missed calls. You can use the
navigation button (with four-way arrows) to highlight a call of interest. To dial
that number simply lift the receiver or press the speaker button.

OFFICE SET-UP – with Multiple Phones
QCan I pick up an incoming call to another phone?
AIf your phone is one of a number of extensions, such as in a business, the
phones can be configured into groups so that you can pick up an incoming call
to any other phone in the same group as yours. This saves time and effort
running across the room to take a call when someone is absent. When you
hear the other phone ringing, pick up your handset and dial *52# to answer the
call. Note: the phone you want to answer must be in the same pick-up group
as your phone for this to work. You will need to advise us of group
membership for us to set up and enable this feature.
