W en your waffle maker is eated for t e first time, it may emit slig t smoke or odor. T is is normal and does not
affect t e safety of your appliance. However, it may affect t e flavor of t e first set of waffles prepared and it is
recommended t at you discard t ese.
Preparing your waffles
• Pre- eat t e waffle maker by setting t e temperature control to t e maximum setting.
• Close t e waffle maker and plug it into t e wall outlet, you will notice t at t e red power lig t and green lig t will
go on, indicating t at t e appliance as begun pre eating. It will take approximately 5 to 7 minutes to reac baking
temperature. T e red power lig t will remain on until you unplug your waffle maker. W en t e green lig t go off, t e
waffle maker is ready for use.
• Set t e Waffle Temperature Control to your desired setting. At first, try a setting in t e middle. You may later adjust
it lower or ig er according to your preference. A lower setting produces a lig ter colored waffle, w ile waffles made
at a ig er setting are darker and crisper. Different waffle batters will also cook up differently. Over time, you will find
your perfect setting for t e batter you use.
• Before baking t e first waffles of t e day, use a pastry brus to lig tly coat t e top and bottom waffle grids wit
vegetable oil. A lig t coating of non-stick cooking spray also works well.
Baking
• W en t e proper baking temperature is reac ed, t e green lig t will go on. Once eated up, cycle times will be
faster.
• Pour batter onto bottom grid of waffle maker. Ladle just enoug batter to fill lower grid so t at t e peak area of t e
grid is covered. If necessary, use a spatula to spread t e batter in to t e corners of t e grid. At t is point t e green
lig t will go off as t e baking cycle begins.
• Close waffle maker and rotate unit 180° to t e rig t (clockwise). Do not open for at least 1½ minutes. Opening t e
lid too soon will cause under-baked waffles to split, making t em difficult to remove.
• W en t e green lig t goes on again, rotate waffle maker 180° to t e left (counterclockwise). Your waffles s ould be
done according to t e Waffle Temperature Control setting t at you’ve c osen. If you want t em darker, close t e lid
and continue baking until t e desired color is ac ieved.
• Remove waffles from t e grid using non-metallic utensils.
• If additional baking is to be done, close waffle maker to retain eat. Always be sure t e green lig t goes on again
before making more waffles.
• If you need to take a s ort break, close waffle maker to maintain eat. W en you return to baking, you will notice
t at t e first waffles will bake faster because extra eat as been allowed to build up.
• Close supervision is necessary w en any appliance is being used by or near c ildren.
