2Introduction
The Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller developed by LIW Care Technology Sp. z o.o. was designed to facilitate the everyday
care of people requiring transport and whose ailments make it impossible for them not only to move independently, but also to
maintain a correct sitting position.
We have done our best to make the Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller an easy to use and use-friendly device and at the
same time provide considerable possibilities of adjusting the position of the patient. The stroller is mainly anticipated for children

who suffer from various palsies and triparesis or quadriparesis; with hemiparesis or alternating hemiplegia, whose weight does not
exceed 30 kg.
It is crucial to carefully read these instructions for use before using the Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller. Following all the
recommendations stated in these instructions for use will allow you to avoid any situations, which could possibly damage the
device, and you will also ensure a complete safety and comfort of use throughout the whole period of using the product.
3General safety conditions
The biggest concern of LIW Care Technology Sp. z o.o. is to ensure safety for the patients using the devices we offer. In order
to provide complete safety of people using the Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller it is essential to strictly follow the
recommendations stated below:
1. Before undertaking any attempts related with using the device, please read the user manual thoroughly and in case of
any doubts, do not hesitate to contact the seller or the manufacturer.
2. Please make sure that all the information, recommendations and warnings included in these chapter are fully
comprehensible.
3. The child should not be left in the stroller unattended.
4. When the child is sitting in the stroller, please make sure that the child is properly fastened by means of the vest and
belts.
5. Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller is designed to be used by one person at a time.
6. Improper use of the stroller may endanger the health of the user and may cause user's injuries.
7. When using and handling the stroller, as well as when assembling and adjusting its mechanisms it is crucial to pay
particular attention to any moving elements, as they create a real risk of entrapping the body in the holes or squeezing it
between individual elements. After each and every adjusting procedure, it is essential to stabilise the position by properly
turning the nuts / screws and by making sure that the elements of the stroller are in their proper and secure positions.
8. It is forbidden to transport a child in the Rico RS stroller in the car, which means that the seat of the stroller is not a safety
seat. The child cannot stay in the seat when travelling by car.
9. It is forbidden to climb up and down the stairs, both with and without the child sitting in the stroller.
10. It is forbidden to carry the stroller when the child is sitting on the seat of the stroller.
Instructions for use attached to devices manufactured by LIW Care Technology Sp. z o.o. hold a paragraph marked with a
word NOTE, which aims to emphasise the content of the given paragraph. The significance of the symbol, of which mention has
been made above is as follows:
NOTE! This particular symbol is used to strongly emphasise the focus of the reader on
the wording marked with this symbol. NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE CONTENT PROVIDED

4Indications for using the device
Being a medical device Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller is anticipated for children who suffer from various palsies and
triparesis or quadriparesis; with hemiparesis or alternating hemiplegia.
Rico RS medical device recommended for children, who were diagnosed with the following:
•cerebral palsy (CP),
•muscular dystrophies,
•palsies of various aetiologies,
•spina bifida,
•myelomeningocele,
•conditions resulting from spinal injuries,
•conditions resulting from craniocerebral injuries,
•conditions resulting from strokes,
•other diseases with concomitant paralysis, palsy, injuries within the scope of the locomotor system making it impossible
for the patient to move independently, without assistance.

6Compliance with requirements concerning medical devices
Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller meets the essential requirements of the MDD Directive 93/42/EEC for medical devices.
According to annex IX of the MDD Directive 93/42/EEC the Rico RS Specialised Paediatric Stroller is classified as a non-invasive,
active medical device class I in accordance with rule 1. Conformity declaration of the device can be obtained in the Commercial
Department of the manufacturer.
7The use of the Rico RS Special Paediatric Stroller
Rico RS stroller provides the chance to expand the mobility of patients, whose conditions make it impossible for them to move
independently, without any assistance. The stroller allows both a forward and a rearward directed position of the seat. It is also possible
to adjust the angle of the seat in relation to the ground within the scope ranging from -t.
NOTE! The device is anticipated to be used by one person at a time.
NOTE! The device should be loaded only within the permitted load range, adding any
objects, resting on the device, may cause the fall of the device.
NOTE! Extreme settings and unfavourable posture (leaning too far) increases the risk of
falling.
NOTE! It is forbidden to lift the device with the user sitting in the device.
NOTE! The device is anticipated to move on flat and hardened surfaces. Overcoming
obstacles such as thresholds, edges, is possible only when the stroller is unoccupied, and
the user is not sitting in the stroller.

10 Assembly of the Rico RS stroller
Rico RS stroller is made of two subassemblies: the frame of the stroller and the seat. In order to prepare the stroller for the
user place a seat on an unfolded frame. Place the handles of the seat on frame crossbars and press the seat to the frame, until you
hear a characteristic click of the locking tabs.

In order to remove the seat from the frame, pull the handle of the seat lock upwards and then lift the seat and take it off the
crossbars of the frame.

11 Carrying the Rico RS stroller
Due to safety reasons, the stroller should be carried by its parts, separately by the seat and separately by the frame. The
manner of carrying is shown in Fig. 6.
NOTE! It is forbidden to carry the stroller with the patient sitting in it.

NOTE! Aftereach adjusting procedure it is crucialto make sure that all regulated elements
are properly mounted and secured.
12.1 Mounting and removing rear wheels
Rear wheels are mounted by putting the wheel hub onto the axis, until the pin of the mechanism blocking the wheel on the
axis is blocked. When the pin blocks, you can hear a click.
In order to remove the rear wheels, press the pin of the blockade, and then slide the wheel off the axis.

NOTE! Before mounting the wheel, please remove any dirt both from the axis and from
the wheel.
NOTE! After mounting the wheel, make sure that the wheels are properly secured.
12.2 Unfolding the frame
In order to unfold the frame place the stroller on the ground, pull the blockade (1) back, and then pull the handle (2) upwards,
until you hear a characteristic click of the blockade.

NOTE! When unfolding the frame it is crucial to be particularly aware of the risk and pay
particular attention to the fact that hands may be trapped by the moving components.

12.3 Folding the frame
Pull the handles (1) on both sides of the push handle of the stroller towards oneself, and then push the push handle (2) forward
folding the frame, until the blockade (3) finally clicks Fig. 9

NOTE! When folding the frame it is crucial to be particularly aware of the risk and pay
particular attention to the fact that hands may be trapped by the moving components.
12.4 Front wheels
Front wheels can be blocked in the "straight-ahead" direction. In order to unblock the direction of the wheel, pull out the lock
mandrel and rotate it by 90Fig. 10. In order to once again block the wheels shift the lock mandrel in the retracted. by turning the
mandrel until the mandrel is blocked.

12.5 Push handle
Simultaneously push the regulating buttons (1) on both sides of the stroller, and then set the push handle on the desired
height. After setting the desired position of the push handle, move the push handle up and down in order to hear a characteristic
click of the blockade Fig. 11

NOTE! It is worth remembering that any additional object hanging on the push handle
poses a significant influence on the stability of the stroller.
12.6 Adjusting the angle of the seat
Press handle number 2 to start angle seat adjustment. The handle is placed on the horizontal bar attached to the seat
backrest. Holding the handle (2) adjust the angle of the seat. Adjusting the angle, REMEMBER to hold the handle and the crossbar
instantly. When the angle is in good position release the handle. Finally, grab the horizontal crossbar (3) and move up and down
to confirm that seat is blocked and safe to use. Never use seat when the angle seat adjustment is loose.

NOTE! Hold the handle and the bar (2 and 3 on the Fig. 12) when adjusting the angle of
the seat.
NOTE! When adjusting the angle of the seat it is crucial to be particularly aware of the
risk and pay particular attention to the fact that hands may be trapped by the moving
components.
NOTE! Due to considerable adjusting possibilities of the stroller, when adjusting the angle
of the seat and the backrest, it is possible to obtain a position when the head of the child
is on the level lower than the pelvic line. It is forbidden to use this particular position, as
this puts the child at risk of choking or aspiration.

12.7 Parking brake
Blockade of rear wheels is triggered with a lever on the posterior crossbar on the frame. Pressing this lever blocks the rear
wheels, and pushing this lever upwards releases the brake Fig. 14

NOTE! It is essential to control the condition of the brake as well as remove accumulated
possible dirt and mud on regular basis.
NOTE! Stability of the stroller may be compromised in case of an unexpected push, tilt or
resting on the stroller.
12.8 Shock absorber of the rear suspension
Shock absorbers of the rear suspension enable setting two levels of comfort as far as the suspension's flexibility is concerned.
Depending on his or her needs, the user may set the level of suspension stiffness by moving the lever (1) into the second
position Fig. 15. This adjustment has to be performed both on the right, as well as on the left side.

13 The main seat of the stroller
NOTE! Aftereach adjusting procedure it is crucialto make sure that all regulated elements
are properly mounted and secured.
13.1 Adjusting the angle of the backrest
(In order to adjust the angle of the backrest keep the crossbar (1) with one hand and pull the release belt (2) with the other
hand Fig. 16. After setting the desired angle of the backrest, release the tape (2). Then move the backrest up and down to confirm
that backrest in stable position. Never use when the backrest is loose.

NOTE! When adjusting the angle of the backrest it is crucial to be particularly aware of
the risk and pay particular attention to the fact that hands may be trapped by the moving

NOTE! Due to considerable adjusting possibilities of the stroller, when regulating the
angle of the backrest, it is possible to obtain a position when the head of the child is on

13.2 Adjusting the height of the backrest
In order to adjust the height of the backrest Fig. 17 loosen the knobs (1) blocking the chest support, as well as the blocking
screws (2). Set the desired height of the backrest and then secure it by retightening the screws (2). Set the chest supports in their
proper position and retighten the screws (2) blocking the chest supports. The maximum extension of the backrest is marked by the
sign MAX. During extending the backrest and reaching the maximum of the permitted limit, the MAX sign is visible. It is non-
permissible to extend backrest above the MAX sign.

13.3 Adjusting the height of the chest support
In order to adjust the height of the chest supports (2) loosen the knobs (1) Fig. 18 and then adjust the position of chest
supports (2). After setting the desired position of the supports, retighten the knobs (1), which block the movement of the chest
support. Position of the right and the left chest support is independent, and these chest supports may be adjusted individually.

13.4 Adjusting the head support
In order to adjust the head supports (2) loosen the knobs (1) Fig. 19 and then set the desired position of the head supports
and retighten the knobs (1) in order to block the movement of the head supports. Position of the right and the left head support is
independent, and these chest supports may be set individually.

13.5 Adjusting the pelvic support
In order to adjust the pelvic supports (1) loosen the knobs (2) under the seat Fig. 20, and then set the desired position of the
pelvic supports (1) and retighten the knobs (2) in order to block the movement of the supports. Position of the right and the left
pelvic support is independent, and these chest supports may be set individually.

13.6 Adjusting the depth of the seat
The seat allows to adjust its depth asymmetry with consideration of the length of the left/right thigh and hence meeting the
individual requirements of each child. It is therefore possible to independently regulate the right (1) and the left (2) part of the seat
platform.

In order to adjust the depth loosen the knobs (3) blocking the hip support as well as the knobs (4) blocking the setting of the
depth of the footrest. In case of setting the asymmetry of the seat platform it is also necessary to loosen the knobs (5) blocking the
guiding rails of the footrest in relation to the seat platform along with the knob (6) blocking the position of the wedge. After
loosening appropriate knobs, adjust the depth of the seat by pulling or pushing the platforms to the desired depth. After adjusting
the depth, retighten all knobs (6), (5), (4) and hence block the position of the footrest, and then retighten the knobs (3) setting the
hip support in the desired position.

13.7 Adjusting the angle of the footrest
The angle of inclination of the footrest under the seat is adjustable in relation to the seat. To adjust the angle, press the
buttons on the adjuster (1) and adjust the footrest to the desired position. To secure the position of the footrest, release the
buttons and slide the footrest until the locks click into place adjuster

13.8 Adjusting the depth of the footrest
The feet support of the seat may be adjusted regardless of the position of the seat platform. In order to set the desired depth
loosen the knobs (1) and (2). Adjust the position of the footrest pushing it to the appropriate length. After setting the required
position, retighten the knobs (1) and (2) and hence secure the footrest in its position.

13.9 Adjusting the height and the angle of the footrest
In order to adjust the height of the footrest Fig. 24 loosen the knobs (1), set the desired height and then retighten the knob
(1). The adjustment of the angle of the platform is done by loosening the nuts (2) and setting the blockade (3) of the platform's
angle to reach the proper position of the footrest. Retighten the nuts (2) to secure the position of the platform.
