Introduction
This manua contains technica documentation a owing easy insta ation and use of the
B uetooth Smart Antenna (BSA). For information on the software programming p ease
refer to the RTCU IDE on- ine he p.
The BSA is an inte igent B uetooth antenna, which adds C ass 2 B uetooth network
support to certain RTCU X32 units. The BSA supports up to four simu taneous y
connections that a ow connections to headset, printer, pc etc. without needing to c ose an
existing connection. The BSA is easy to use through the dedicated functions in the RTCU
IDE deve opment software. The functions add support for network discovery/scan, inbound
and outbound connections, and connection information such as signa eve , address, type,
name etc.
Two versions of the BSA are avai ab e for order and both supports B uetooth Seria Port
Profi e (SPP)
Headset connection is avai ab e on the RT-O-BT1-MX2 so Hands-Free Profi e Audio
Gateway (HFP-AG) is easi y used and insta ed on RTCU X32 units with headset
connector.

External connections
Connections to the RTCU X32 unit are very easy as on y one connections is necessary,
and the BSA is ready to be connected direct y to the RTCU X32 unit at de ivery.
The BSA is connected to the Seria Port 1 (service port on MX2i and DX4, Seria Port 1 on
AX9) on the RTCU X32 unit.

Power su ly
The BSA is supp ied direct y from the RTCU X32 unit via the DC-OUT pin in the service
port connector / screw termina s. When the BSA is connected no other devices may be
connected to the DC-OUT due its output current hand ing capabi ities.
The BSA must be supp ied with 3.3VDC.
Communication
Communication between the RTCU X32 unit and the BSA is via RS232. When the BSA
receives data from a connected B uetooth device, the data wi be passed trough to the
RTCU X32 unit, which wi buffer the data unti the app ication retrieves it. However, as the
buffers in the RTCU X32 are imited, the app ication must retrieve the data as fast as
possib e; otherwise data wi be ost – especia y when arge amount of data f ows.
If a connection to a BSA device is poor, for examp e due ong distance between the BSA
and the device, the data transmission speed to the device wi be owered, as the data is
re-transmitted. When this occurs the BSA wi start to buffer the data unti its interna
buffers are fi ed. As this may happen during a ca to a B uetooth function from the
app ication, the function wi wait unti the BSA buffers are ready again.

Headset connector (RT-O-BT1-MX2 only)
The supp ied cab e comes with a 4-po e 2.5mm jack connector with standard Nokia pin-
out. The connector can be inserted direct y into supported X32 units with headset
connector.
The BSA supports a sing e audio connection to for examp e a B uetooth headset. The
audio connection uses two of the four possib e connections; one for contro and one for
audio.
The audio input and output are differentia signa s, and must be hand ed as such to
suppress noise from GSM among others.

Installation
BSA modu es are designed to make the insta ation easiest possib e for the user. Fo owing
describes brief y how to connect the BSA to different supported RTCU units.
MX2i Pro/Pro+
There are two connection cab es to the MX2i from the BSA; one 2,5 mm jack headset
connector (RT-O-BT1-MX2 on y), and one 6-po ed tyco connector for supp y and
communication.
1. If an app ication program for using the BSA not a ready up oaded to the MX2i unit,
be sure to choose the Seria Port 2 as a ternative service port, as BSA wi occupy
the defau t service port.
2. Connect the jack headset ma e connector to the fema e jack connector on the MX2i

DX4 Pro
There is on y one connection cab e to the DX4 Pro from the BSA; 6-po ed tyco connector
for supp y and communication.
1. If an app ication program for using the BSA not a ready up oaded to the MX2i unit,
be sure to choose the Seria Port 2 as a ternative service port, as BSA wi occupy
the defau t service port.
2. Connect the 6-po ed tyco connector to the service port.
AX9 Pro
There is on y one connection cab e to the AX9 Pro from the BSA, but as there isn’t any
easy-to-p ug connector at the end of the cab e, each connection to the AX9 Pro needs to
be made manua y. Cab es are co or coded, and these co ors wi be used in the fo owing
description:

Indicators (LED’s)
The b ue LED wi indicate the BSA is active. It is connected to the TXD pin on the modu e.
When no communication exists the LED is on and when heavy communication exists the
LED wi b ink in short interva s.
The bico or status-LED is can be contro ed by the VPL app ication to indicate different
states of the BSA. P ease refer to the RTCU IDE on ine he p for further information.
