FW S1 –Requires activation of optional software.
Most of the ports are hot swappable. Some drives are not hot swappable. Please check
with the drive manufacturer to find out if the drive being used does not support hot
swapping.
The PCIe port is not hot-swappable. Always turn the unit off
when connecting or disconnecting drives through the PCIe port.
Master drives do not have to be connected in any order. For example, a single SATA
Master drive does not have to be connected to the SAS/SATA S1 port. It can be
connected to the SAS/SATA S2 port without having anything connected to the S1 port.
Never connect a Master drive to the Target ports of the unit.
Data may be overwritten if a drive is connected to a Target port.

Logicube SuperSonix-NG™ User’s Manual 10
Any combination of drives can be connected, up to 5 Master drives. For example, one SAS
drive, one SATA drive, one USB drive, one PCIe drive, and one FireWire drive can all be
connected at the same time.
2.2.2 Connecting Target Drives
Target drives must be connected to the right side of the unit. These ports are labeled as
follows:
•SAS D1 –SAS/SATA data port for the Target 1 (D1) position. Support for SAS
drives requires optional software activation.
•SAS D2 –SAS/SATA data port for the Target2 (D2) position. Support for SAS
drives requires optional software activation.
•PWR 1 –Power port for SAS D1.
•PWR 2 –Power port for SAS D2.
•USB D1 –USB 3.0 Target port.
•PCIe –PCIe port for PCIe, mPCIe, and M.2 AHCI/NVME drives. Available on the
SuperSonix-NG PCIe version.
•FW D1 –FireWire Target port. Support for SAS drives requires optional
software activation.
The following Target ports are affected by optional
software activations:
SAS D1, SAS D2 –Supports SATA drives. Support for
SAS drives requires activation of optional software.
FW D1 Requires activation of optional software.
Target drives do not have to be connected in order. For example, a single SATA Target
drive does not have to be connected to the SAS/SATA D1 port. It can be connected to the
SAS/SATA D2 port without having anything connected to the D1 port.

The PCIe port is not hot-swappable. Always turn the unit off
when connecting or disconnecting drives through the PCIe port.
Any combination of drives can be connected, up to 4 Destination drives. For example, one
SAS drive, one SATA drive, one USB drives, and one FireWire drive can all be connected at
the same time, when all required options have been activated.
Most of the SuperSonix-NG ports are hot swappable. Some drives are not hot
swappable. Please check with the drive manufacturer to find out if the drive being used
does not support hot swapping.
When disconnecting drives, it is very important to make sure
the drives are not being used on any task. Disconnecting drives
while the unit is using the drive for a task may cause data loss.
2.2.3 Using USB/FireWire/eSATA drives or enclosures
When using USB, FireWire, and/or eSATA drives or enclosures, it is highly recommended
to leave the drive inside the enclosure. These enclosures may have an on-board controller
that may be necessary to read the drive properly. Taking the drive out of the enclosure
could cause any device (including computers) not to read the drive contents properly.
2.2.4 Connecting PCIe/mPCIe/M.2 (AHCI/NVMe) Drives
An optional PCIe adapter kit (part number F-ADP-PCIE-KIT) is available for the PCIe
enabled SuperSonix-NG (F-SUPERSONIX-NG-P). PCIe, Mini PCIe, and M.2 (NVMe, AHCI,
and SATA) drives can be connected using this kit.
The PCIe port is not hot-swappable. Always turn the unit off
when connecting or disconnecting drives through the PCIe port.
2.3 The user interface
The user interface (UI) has been designed to quickly and easily input commands. It is simple and intuitive
showing common icons such as tasks, modes of operation, and scroll icons on the screen. The UI is
designed to be easily followed, going from left to right across the screen.

2.4 Front and rear ports
The unit has two USB 2.0 host ports, one Micro-B USB 3.0 device port, one DC IN power port, one Gigabit
Ethernet port, and one type C mini HDMI port.
2.4.1 Front ports
There are two USB 2.0 host ports and one USB 3.0 (Micro-B) device port.
2.4.1.1 USB 2.0 host ports
These ports are used to connect peripherals such as USB keyboards,
mice, and printers. These ports are also used for exporting audit log and
debug log files.
