2 Gettingtoknow yourHarmony 785
2.1 How the Harmony 785 works
The Harmony 785 isan Activity-based infrared (IR) universal remote
control. Using the Harmony Remote Software, you can configure the
Harmony 785 to control up to 15 devices.
Using an intelligent and powerful Activity-based technology, the Har-
mony 785 isable to keep trackof the devicesit controls,soit always
knowswhich of your devicesareon. Hence,the Harmony 785 switches
effortlessly e.g. from watching aDVD to listening music on thestereo
with the touch of a button.
2.2 Activities, Devices and Inputs
Activities are the basisfor howthe Harmony 785 works.Thingslike
watching aDVD, listening to radio, playing agame are all examplesof
Activitiesyou can setup for your remote using theHarmony Remote
Software.
When youselect anActivity, the Harmony 785 sendsaseries of com-
mandsto your entertainment system to turn on the necessary devicesand
configure them for the selected Activity. After you select an Activity, the
Harmony 785 assignsthe buttonson theremote sothey control the proper
devicesand the screen displaysother commandsfor that Activity.
For information on how to select an Activity, or howto switch between
Activities,refer to section 'Selecting an Activity'on page 12 and section
'Switching between Activities'on page 12.
Devices are the componentsof your entertainment system. They are
thingslike your TV, cable box, DVD player,or game system.
Inputs arehow your devicesareconnected.For example, if yourDVD
player isconnected toyour TVusing the Component 1 input, then the TV
needsto beset to Component 1 to display theDVD picture properly.

2.3The buttons on the Harmony 785
The buttonsof the Harmony 785 may have different functionsor control
different devicesdepending on which Activity you are in. For further
information, refer to section 'Commandscommon to thecurrent Activity'
on page 10.
A
USB Connector:Connect one end of the
USB cable tothis connector and the
other end to your computer so that you
can download your configuration using
the HarmonyRemote Software.
BPowerButton:Turns alldevices off
with one button press.
CACTIVITIES:Press Activities to view
alist ofActivities you haveadded. Press
the displaybutton next to the Activity
you wantandthe Harmony785 will set
up your entertainment system.
DDEVICES:Lists all your Devices on the
display,and allows you to select and di-
rectlycontrol anydevice.
EHELP:Asksyou simplequestions so
that your Harmony 785 can fix problems
you are having within an Activity.
FDisplay:Shows lists of your Activities
and Devices,help, infrared (IR) com-
mands and any available listings.
GDisplay Buttons:Use the buttons at the
side of the displayto select the corre-
sponding command.
HLeft /Right Arrow:Allows you to view
more options on the display.
ISmart Buttons:While there is adefault
setting for the buttons in most Activities,
you can customize thesebuttons to send
different commands.
JPREV:Goes to previous television
channel (for example).
KMENU:Gives youaccessto the menu
systemon adevice, if you have adevice
with this feature.
LEXIT:Exits fromthe an displaymenu
or listing.
MGUIDE:Gives access toview program
listings or on-screen menus, if you have
a device with this feature.
NINFO:Gives youadditional informa-
tion, if you have adevice with this fea-
ture.
OInfrared Learning Port:The Harmony
785 uses thisport to learn commands
fromyour original remote.
PTeletextButtons:This is aservice
provided bythe television provider. Use
Teletext Buttons to accessthis service;
however, yourTV set mustbe equipped
with aTeletext decoder. While Teletext
is the default setting for these buttons in
the Watch TVActivity,you can custom-
ize these buttons to send different com-
mands.

2.4Displays of the Harmony 785
2.4.1Activities
The Activitiesscreenisyour starting pointon the Harmony 785.From
thisscreen,you can select your Activities.
2.4.2Commandscommon tothecurrent Activity
When you select an Activity, the screen of your Harmony 785 displaysall
the commandsrelatedto that Activity, not justthe onesrelatedto the
primary device of that Activity. For example, if you are watching aDVD,
the screendisplaysfunctionsand commandsfor your DVD and other
devicesyou use in the Watch a DVD Activity.
2.4.3Devices
When youpressthe Devices button, the screen of your Harmony 785
displaysalistof your devices.From thisscreen, you cancontrol individ-
ual devices.

2.4.4 FavouriteChannels
You can setup your favourite channelson your Harmony 785 sothat you
have quickaccessto the channelsyou watchthe most.Also, youcan add
your own iconsto customize the screen for your favourite channels(refer
to section 'Setup yourFavourite Channels'on page 31).
2.4.5Options
At the endof the listof all Activitieson your Harmony 785 theentry
System Options isautomatically added. When you press thisbutton, the
screen of your Harmony 785 displaysalistof remote optionssoyou can
customize certain featuresand functionson the remote (refer tosection
'Personalizing the Harmony 785'on page 33).
2.4.6Statusicons
ADisplaysthecurrent Device, current Activityor further systemmes-
sages.
BThe current date and time display on your remote screen. How to set
up date andtime on the remote isdiscussed in section 'Settingthe
date and time'on page 16.
CThisicon indicatesthat the Harmony 785 isconnectedto your com-
puter via the USB cable.
DThe statusindicator flasheswhenever an infrared (IR) command is
being sent from your Harmony 785.
EThe battery indicator showsyouthe statusof the rechargeablebat-
tery. Referto section'Charging the remotecontrol'on page 25on
how to charge the battery of your Harmony 785.

3 Using the Harmony 785
3.1 Menus on the screen
If amenuor listing stretchesover more than onescreen page, usethe
corresponding arrow buttons(refer to section 'Thebuttonson theHar-
mony 785' on page 9, item H) beneath the screen to go to the nextor pre-
viouspage of the menu or listing.
3.2Selecting an Activity
Press button Activities to get alistof all Activitiescurrently programmed
into the Harmony 785.
The screen displaysallavailable Activities. To select and start an activity,
press the corresponding button next to the screen label of the Activity.
3.3Switching between Activities
Toselecta new Activity, press the Activities button, andselect theActiv-
ity you want. The Harmony 785 will take care of powering on the needed
devices,and powering off theonesnotneeded. Pleasereadsection
'Adding andchanging Activities'on page 21on how to add new Activities
and to customize existing ones.
3.4Turning off your devices
Press the Power buttonto power off all devicesused inthe current Activ-
ity.

·You do not need topress the Power buttonwhen switching between
Activities.The Harmony 785 ensuresthe proper devicesfor the Ac-
tivity are switched onor off.
3.5 Using the Helpbutton
Becauseobstaclesor distancecaninterfere with the signalsthe Harmony
785 sendswhen it startsan Activity (forexample, someone walksbe-
tween your Harmony 785 and the TVwhen you press Watch TV,or you
are very far away from the system whenyou start an Activity), your
Harmony 785 can become 'out ofsync'with your devices.
To fix the problem, use the help feature on your Harmony 785.
1. On the remote, press the Help button.
2. Answer thequestionson thescreen of your Harmony785 by select-
ing Yes or No.
Basedon your answers,the Harmony 785 re-sendsthe necessary com-
mandsto synchronizewith your devices.When youare donewith this
process, the Harmony785 will be 'in sync'with your devices.
Important
·Before using the Help button, be sure you have addressed thecause
of the problem, such asremoving any obstaclesfrom the line of sight.

3.6 Using your Favourite Channels
When you set up your Favourite Channelsonthe Harmony 785,the item
Favourite Channels isadded to the listof commandsfor the Activities
Watch TV and Record Video.
To use your Favourite Channels:
1. Select the Activity Watch TV or Record Video.
2. Usethe arrow buttonsbeneath thescreen to get to the lastpageof the
command list.
3. Press button FavouriteChannels.The listof favouritechannelsyou
have addedappearsonthe screen.
4. To select a channel, simply press the corresponding button.
Usebutton Exit at the end of the listof favourite channelsto return to the
command list.

·Refer to section 'SetupyourFavourite Channels'onpage 31 on how
to setup Favourite Channels.
3.7 Controlling devicesindividually
In some cases,you may need to control adevice individually (forexam-
ple, to access afunctionrarely used). You can usetheDevicesfeature of
the Harmony 785 to control devicesone-by-one.
When youpressthe Devices button, the screen of your Harmony 785
displaysa list of your devices.
Select the device youwishto control. After you selected adevice, the
Harmony 785 controlsonly that device. Youhave access to all the com-
mandsfor the device included in your Harmony 785 configuration.
Tip
·Once you have finished, return to the current Activity for the optimal
control of your entertainment system. For this,press the Devices but-
ton twice. The firstbutton press getsyou back to the deviceslist,the
second back to the current Activity.

3.8 Charging the remote control
Your Harmony 785 comeswithacharging station. The charging station
plugsinto awall outlet and chargesthe battery every time you put the
remote on it. All you need to do ispick up the Harmony785,useit, and
place it backon the charging station when you are doneto ensureit stays
charged.
Toget the charging station operable, you have to connect the AC adapter
to the charging stationasshownin step1below. Install the cableof the
AC adapter into one ofthe cablechannelsonthe backside of your charg-
ing station.
Plug the AC adapter into the outlet (see step2below). Now the charging
station isready to operate.
Assoon asyou placethe Harmony 785 onto the charging station, the
battery will be charged(step 3 below).
In the upperright corner of the display screenisthebattery indicator. If
only one red segmentisleft, thebattery needsrecharging. Additionally,
the Harmony 785 willissue awarning on thescreen right before the bat-
tery iscompletely empty.
The battery isfully charged when the battery indicator shows3green
segments.

·You can recharge the battery every time the Harmony 785 isnot in
use. Thisdoesnot affect the lifetime of the battery, and the remoteis
alwayscharged ready to use.
Assoon asthe charging station isconnectedwith mainsusing the AC
adapter, theLogitech logo will light up. Usethe switch on the backside of
the charging station to select the illumination level, or switch off the light
completely.
3.9 Setting the date and time
You can change the date and time that appearson thescreen of the Har-
mony 785. To set the date and time, follow these steps:
1. If necessary, press Activities button to display the list of Activitieson
the screen of your Harmony 785.
2. In casethelistexceedsone screenpage, press the Left Arrow button
beneath thescreen to display the last entriesof the list.
3. The lastitem on the listisalways System Options.Press the corre-
sponding button to view the list of system optionson the screen.
4. Press the button Usethe CurrentTime andenter dateand timeac-
cording to the instructionson the screen.
5. To return to the Activitieslist press the button I'm Done.

4 Setting up the Harmony 785
Important
·Audionet programmed your Harmony 785 by default for controlof
Audionet devicessothat you canusethe remote without the needof
initial configuration. Inorder to usethe full potential of your Har-
mony 785,you should define your own Activitiesor customizethe
pre-defined Activitiesto your entertainment system.For thisyou
have to usethe included Harmony Remote Software.
Tip
·In caseyoushould experience any problemsinstalling the Harmony
Remote Software or connecting the remote to your computer using
the USB port, pleaserefer to the toll-free Harmony support hotline
(refer to section 'Logitech support hotline'on page 43).
4.1 Installing the Harmony Remote Software
When you insert the included CD, the guided online installation starts.
Follow the instructionson thecomputer screen during the installation of
the Harmony Remote Software.
Important
·While installing and operatingthe Harmony Remote Software
you need an active internet connection.
·Also refer to section 'System requirements'on page 48.
Install software - Windows®:
1. Insert the software CD into CD-ROMdrive.
2. If the installation doesnot start automatically, browserCD contents
and start file setup.exe.
3. Follow the instructionson the computer screen untilthe end ofthe
installation process.
4. After installing the software, the application starts.

Install software - Macintosh®:
1. Insert the software CD-ROMdrive.
2. Double-click the CD-ROMicon to display CD contents.
3. Double-click the Harmony Remote Software.mpkg iconand followthe
installation dialog to the end.
4. Click Finder and thenclick the Applications folder.
5. Double-click the Logitech Harmony RemoteSoftware file. If the
software doesnot start, click the Harmony icon in the dock.
Assoon as the Harmony RemoteSoftware hasconnected to the Logitech
server, it checksfor updatesautomatically and downloadsthem if neces-
sary. Then you seethelogin screen. The following section discussesthe
login procedure in detail.
4.2 Login for returning user
Note
·Audionet set up an user account for allcustomers.Incaseyou
did not getany account information (i.e. LoginIDand password),
pleasecontact the Audionet customer service. Forany inquiry
please have the exactmodel name and serial number ready.
Important
·Ifyou create anewuseraccount at thispoint andtransferthe
new configuration toyour Harmony 785,all configurationsfor
Audionet deviceswill be irretrievably deleted and overwritten!
In thiscase,pleaselogin with the LoginID and password provided by
Audionet and update your Harmony 785 configurationby clicking
the button Update Remote.
Tologin to an existing account,enter LoginID and password into the
corresponding fieldsof the Returning User maskofthe Harmony Re-
mote Software. To start the login procedure click button Login.
Important
·Passwordsare case-sensitive!.

·If you forgot your password, click on Iforgot my password.
·If you markthe box beside Remember my Login,your LoginID will
be inserted automatically every time you start the Harmony Remote
Software.
·If you alsomark the box beside Remembermy Password, your pass-
word will inserted automatically, too, whenyou startthe Harmony
Remote Software. Yousimply have to clickon the button Login to
log onto your account.
·In section 'Update yourlogin information'on page 20 you will find
detailed information on how to change the password.
·If you would like to change thelanguageof the Harmony Remote
Software, click on Select Language in thetop rightcorner of the
login screenand select the desired language from the pull-down
menu.
Each time you login, the Harmony RemoteSoftware opensyourhome
page. Your home page iswhere you can manage your Activitiesand De-
vices,aswell aschange the settingson your remote. Whether you want to
add anew Activity, or customizeremote buttons,the Harmony Remote
Software home page isthe placeto start.
4.3 Connecting the Harmony 785 to your
computer
Remove the Harmony785 fromthe charging station. Assoon asyou are
asked by the Harmony Remote Software, connect the Harmony785 to
your computer using the providedUSB cablesasshown in the pictures
below:

1. Connect the smaller end of the cable to the USB port on your remote.
2. Connect the wider end of the cable to afreeUSB porton yourcom-
puter.
Any changesyou made in the Harmony Remote Software will only be
transmitted to the Harmony 785 over the USB connection when you click
the button Update Remote on your home page screen (refer to section
'Update remote'on page 32).
4.4 Update your login information
When logged in to anexisting account, youcan viewand updateyour
personal user data.Click on Preferences onthe topright of your home
page. Nowfollow the instructionson thescreen. If necessary updateyour
user data. You also may enter a new password.
4.5 Logout
After finishing your work with the Harmony RemoteSoftware or if you
like to loginwith adifferent LoginID, click on Logout top right. You
logout from the current account and return to the login screen.
