Setup step 1 — Connect cameras
1. Connect cameras directly to the NVR (recommended).
Connect the Ethernet cable to the camera and then connect the other end of the Ethernet cable
to the NVR’s PoE ports. The camera may take a minute to power on after being connected.

IMPORTANT: Test your cameras prior to selecting a permanent mounting location by
temporarily connecting the cameras and cables to your NVR using one of the following two methods.

2. Connect cameras to a PoE switch or router on your network (not included).
OR
Connect the Ethernet cable to the camera and then connect the other end of the Ethernet cable
to a router or switch on your network. The camera may take a minute to power on after being
connected.

• This guide covers connecting IP cameras to your security recorder only. For full instructions on installing
your cameras, please refer to your camera’s documentation at lorex.com.
• Connecting cameras to a router, or a network switch without PoE, requires a power adapter for each
camera. Refer to your camera’s documentation at lorex.com for the correct power adapter model number.

Setup step 2 — Connect router
Connect the recorder to your
router using the included
Ethernet cable.
Notes:
• If you are using a PoE switch, ensure the switch is connected to the same network as your recorder.
• To receive automatic rmware updates and enable remote viewing with mobile apps, a high speed
Internet connection is required (minimum upload speed of 5Mbps required for 4K viewing; 3.5Mbps for
lower resolutions). All other system features can be used without an Internet connection.

Setup step 3 — Connect mouse
Connect the included USB
mouse to the USB port on
the recorder.
To copy your video recordings
and to perform a rmware
upgrade, connect a USB stick
or ash drive to the USB port on
the front panel of the recorder.

Setup step 4 — Connect monitor/TV
Connect the recorder to
a monitor/TV using the
included HDMI cable or a
VGA cable (not included).
The HDMI port supports
up to 4K resolution, and
VGA supports up to
1080p.
Note: To optimize
picture quality, set
the recorder’s video
output to match
the resolution of
your monitor. See
‘Changing the
Recorder’s Output
Resolution’ page 19
for details.

Setup step 5 — Connect power
Connect the recorder to
a nearby outlet using the
included power adapter.
Then ip the power switch on.

Setup step 6 — Lorex Setup Wizard
When you rst power up your
recorder, the Lorex Setup Wizard
will begin. The Wizard will help you
to congure core system settings.
You will also create a secure
password. This password will be
used to login to your system and
connect to the Lorex Home app.
To quickly open a window that displays vital system information such as device ID, model number,
rmware version, and IP address:
Quick access to system information
• Tap the information button on the front panel of the recorder, or
• Right-click to open the Quick Menu and then click iInfo
Record your password below:

Using the mouse
• During split-screen display:
Click an individual channel
to view in full-screen. Click
again to return to the
split-screen display mode.
• While navigating menus:
Click to open a menu option
• During live view: Click
anywhere on the screen
to open the Quick Menu.
• While navigating menus:
Click to exit menus.
• During live view: Use
the scroll wheel to zoom
in/out.

Using the quick menu
Right-click anywhere on the live viewing screen to open the Quick Menu.

• Info: View system

all current audible
warnings.
• Main Menu: Open Main
Menu.
• Playback: Search and
play back recordings.
• Smart Search: Filter
through recorded video
when searching.
• Pan/Tilt/Zoom: Control
PTZ cameras (not
included).
• View 1-16: Select
camera/live display
view.
• Camera Registration:
Add IP cameras over
the LAN.
• Manual: Open manual
recording controls.

Follow the steps below to add cameras that are not directly connected to the Power over Ethernet
(PoE) ports on the back of the recorder.

Adding cameras from the LAN
To add cameras from the LAN:
1. Connect the camera to a router or switch on the same network as the recorder.
2. Right-click and then click Camera Registration.
3. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and password.
4. Congure the following:
a. Check the camera(s) you would
like to add.
b. Click Add. The status indicator
turns green to show the camera
is successfully connected.
c. The added device(s) will appear
in the Added Device list.
d. If the icon in the Status column
appears red, there may be a
password issue with the camera.
Select the camera and click
Reconnect IPC.

Smart motion detection is enabled by default.

Smart motion detection
To congure smart motion detection settings:
1. From the camera’s live view, right-click and then click Main Menu.
2. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and password.
3. Click EVENTS > Event Settings > Motion > Smd/Deterrence.
4. Congure the following:

b. Check Person and/or Vehicle
to disable or enable each
type of smart detection.
c. Click Set > Area under each
detection type you have
enabled to set the active
areas.
d. Click Set > Schedule to set

To use face detection, you must rst enable this feature in the smart plan settings.

Face detection — Smart plan
To congure smart plan settings:
1. From the camera’s live view, right-click and then click Main Menu.
2. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and password.
3. Click EVENTS > Event Settings > Smart Plan.
4. Congure the following:
a. Under Camera, select the
channel you would like to
congure.
b. De-select the person and
vehicle detection icon, then
select the face detection
icon.
When a smart feature icon
is enabled, the icon will be
blue. When a feature has
been disabled, the icon will
be white.
c. Click Apply to save.

To use face detection and mask detection, you must rst enable these features in the smart plan
settings, see pg.14 for details.

Face detection — Mask detection
To congure face detection and mask detection settings:
1. From the camera’s live view, right-click and then click Main Menu.
2. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and password.
3. Click EVENTS > Event Settings > Face Detection.
4. Congure the following:
a. Under Camera, select the
channel you would like to
congure.
b. Enable face detection.
c. To use the mask detection
feature, set the Alarm
Type to Mask Detect and
then enable it. Check Auto
Response to remind a
non-mask wearer to: “Please
wear your face mask”.
d. Click Apply to save.

Using deterrence features
To congure deterrence settings:
1. From the camera’s live view, right-click and then click Main Menu.
2. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and password.
3. Click EVENTS > Event Settings > Motion > Smd/Deterrence.
4. Congure the following:
a. Under Camera, select the
channel connected to a
smart deterrence camera.
b. Check Person and/or Vehicle
to disable or enable each
type of smart detection.
c. Click Set > Area under each
detection type you have
enabled to set the active
areas.
d. Click Set > Schedule to set
the weekly schedule.

e. For Duration, choose how long the warning light will stay on when motion is detected.
f. Select Warning Light for a solid white light, or Strobe for a ashing light. If you select strobe, set how
quickly the light will ash under Strobe Frequency.
g. Under Siren, select between four different alarm types.
h. Click Apply to save.
