4 Dongle Operating and Storage Instructions
1. Protect the dongle from physical damage (fall, toss, vibration, etc.), exposure to high and low
temperatures, aggressive environments, high voltage; all these may cause damage to the dongle.
2. Do not press too hard when connecting the dongle to the computer, and a peripheral device to the
dongle.
3. Do not expose the dongle (especially its connectors) to dust, dirt, damp, etc. In case dirt gets into the
dongle connectors arrange for their cleaning. Use a dry cloth to clean the case and connectors. Never
use organic solvents.
4. Do not disassemble the dongle. This may cause damage of the dongle’s case, printed wiring elements,
and consequently lead to unstable functioning or failure of the hardware.
5. In case of failure or improper functioning of the dongle, contact the application software developer.
5 GSREMOTE Utility. Remote Programming of the Dongle Memory
GSREMOTE utility is designed for the end users of the software protected by Guardant dongles. It
allows you to change the contents of the memory of dongles, including correction of the application’s
license term upon authorization from the protected software owner.
This utility is required when terms of use of a protected program are changed (for example, when the
program rental period is prolonged, a new program version is released, additional features are activated,
etc.). It is obvious that GSREMOTE should be supplied together with the application.
GSREMOTE supports two types of remote programming: it can be used to update the memory
contents of the dongle (either in full or in part) and correct the license term of the protected application.
The utility has a wizard-like interface and comprises several windows. You can move to a new
window by clicking on the [Next>] button after the current dialogue has been completed and return to the
previous window by clicking on the [<Back] button.
5.1 Changing the Contents of the Dongle Memory
The user starts GSREMOTE and selects “Whole or partial update of dongle’s memory
contents”option. The utility generates a number-question which is then passed by the user to the
developer (supplier) of the protected program.
After that, the user may terminate the program by clicking on the [Finish] button, in case an answer
is not anticipated in the nearest future.
If user has terminated the program he should start it anew and repeat operations above, then select
“Process number-answer received from software vendor” option (set by default) in the next window.
If user has not terminated the program, he can select “Process number-answer…” option.
By selecting a corresponding option, the user specifies whether the entire memory is to be updated
or only its block. In the first case the path to the update file is to be specified in the dialogue box, in the
second case it should be additionally specified whether the answer has been received in the form of a
hexadecimal number or a file. If it is a number, it is to be typed in the input field, and if it is a file, a path is
to be specified.
After that, you can move to the last window where the utility reports on the result of the update
procedure.
6 Searching Dongles on Your Computer
To make it easier for you to operate with several Guardant dongles and for preliminary testing their
functionality various special dongle search utilities have been developed.
