6. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
6.1 INTRODUCTION
The LUCCA Atom 75 is a WiFi-enabled coffee grinder with a precise digital grind position sensor.
The mechanical portions of the Atom 75 are based on Eureka’s proven Atom platform,
manufactured by Conti Valerio, Srl. in Florence, Italy, which has been building excellent coffee
grinders since 1920. The electronic components and software were developed by LUCCA, a
coffee technology brand in Portland, Oregon, USA which has been bringing innovative coffee
products to market since 2011.
6.1.1 WHAT IS TrueGrind?
TrueGrind is an “Internet of Things” (IoT) system developed at LUCCA to help home and
professional baristas find the best grind setting for their espresso quickly and easily. Whether
you’re new to the game or a World Barista Champion, figuring out your grind setting (also known
as “dialing in”) is a challenging experience. Until now, the best any of us could do was pull a
bunch of shots and guess-and-check our way to the right setting with some handy but imprecise
heuristics (bucket of sand, anyone?).
Despite over a century of advances in espresso technology, this is still the same, sad state of the
art. We aim to change that.
7

6.1.2 THE TrueGrind SYSTEM
TrueGrind is a system of three parts which all work together to help you dial in your espresso.
The Grinder: LUCCA Atom 75
The LUCCA Atom 75 has been specially designed to work with TrueGrind. It is equipped with
custom, pre-seasoned and cryogenically hardened burrs for extreme grind stability, an ultra
precise digital burr position sensor which can detect grind changes as small as 5 microns, a
touchscreen display, and internet connectivity to allow you to load, edit and reference your
favorite coffees, recipes, and TrueGrind AI grind predictions.
The App: LUCCA TrueGrind for iOS & Android
The LUCCA TrueGrind mobile app lets you browse hundreds of coffee bags to purchase from
MistoBox, create recipes, get grind setting predictions, and sync them to the grinder.
The Brain: TrueGrind AI
TrueGrind AI is a Cloud-based artificial intelligence that thinks it’s a barista--if a barista could solve
partial differential equations in milliseconds. Tell TrueGrind AI about your espresso machine,
coffee beans, and the kind of shot you want, and it will predict the best grind setting to achieve it.
Not quite there on the first try? Use the Dial-In Assistant and TrueGrind AI will instantly learn and
correct its grind predictions based on your feedback.
8

6.2 USER CONTROLS
The LUCCA Atom 75 is controlled by interacting with the touchscreen, pushbutton switch and
grind adjustment knob.
6.2.1 TOUCHSCREEN
Using the touchscreen, you can navigate between different pages, view the current digital grind
setting, adjust grind time, connect the grinder to a local WiFi network, select the grinding mode,
stop and start grinding, receive and edit coffee recipes, view system information, and edit or
reset system settings.
6.2.2 PUSHBUTTON SWITCH
You can use the pushbutton switch below the grind dispensing chute to start or stop grinding
without having to use the touchscreen.
9

6.2.3 GRIND ADJUSTMENT KNOB
The grind adjustment knob is used to adjust the grind setting. The grind setting determines the
relative position of the grinding burrs. The farther apart the burrs are, the coarser the coffee
particles, and the larger the number displayed at the top of the touchscreen; the closer the burrs
are, the finer the coffee particles, and the smaller the number displayed at the top of the
touchscreen. Turning the grind adjustment knob anticlockwise results in a coarser grind, and
turning it clockwise results in a finer grind. To prevent jams, it is advised to not adjust the grind
farther than +/-10 digital grind settings at a time, and to run the grinder motor between each
adjustment to purge the grinder of old coffee.
6.3 FIRST POWER ON
Before powering on the grinder, first ensure it is plugged into a grounded 120v outlet. Then, flip
the main power switch on the lower rear right side of the grinder body.
6.3.1 CONNECTING TO WiFi
After a welcome message, a list of available WiFi network SSIDs will be displayed. After selecting
one, you will be prompted to enter the password for that WiFi network.
If you do not see your home or business WiFi network SSID displayed on the list:
●The list of networks detected is long and cannot all be displayed at once. Tap and drag
your finger on the touchscreen to scroll through the list.
●Your WiFi access point (sometimes built into, and referred to as a “router”) is too far from
the grinder, and it has poor signal. You may need to reposition your access point or
grinder, or you may need to install a range extender or second access point closer to the
grinder.
●Your WiFi network operates on the 5GHz band. The LUCCA Atom 75 can only connect to
access points operating on the 2.4GHz band. Most WiFi access points capable of
operating at 5GHz also make a network available at 2.4GHz, but the network name and
password may be different. Consult the label or documentation of your WiFi access point
to find your default 2.4GHz network name and password.
If you see your network’s SSID displayed multiple times on the list, select the topmost one; your
network may have multiple access points in your home or business, and the grinder displays
them in order of signal strength.
6.3.2 REGISTERING A GRINDER TO YOUR TrueGrind ACCOUNT
After connecting to WiFi, you will be prompted to install the TrueGrind AI mobile app, create a
user account, and then register your grinder to your account by entering the unique Grinder ID
into the TrueGrind AI mobile app.
10

Registering your grinder is free and allows you to access all of the features of the LUCCA Atom
75, such as browsing & ordering TrueGrind Ready MistoBox coffees, creating & uploading coffee
recipes to your grinder, and accessing TrueGrind AI grind setting predictions.
6.4 NAVIGATING THE PAGES
You can navigate through the pages and menus of the LUCCA Atom 75 by tapping icons on the
touch screen.
From the Navigation Bar at the bottom of the screen, you can quickly access the three main
pages: Home, Select, and Settings.
6.4.1 HOME
The Home page provides a dashboard where you can view relevant information for whichever
Grind Mode is active, and operate the grinder.
6.4.2 SELECT
The active Grind Mode is selected from the Select page. Tapping on a coffee listed under “My
Coffees” will enable TrueGrind Recipe Mode. Tapping the “Timed” or “Continuous” buttons will
enable Timed Grind or Continuous Grind mode, respectively.
6.4.3 SETTINGS
You can adjust the configuration of the grinder from the Settings menu.
●Pulse Time: Adjust the time the grinder runs when the Pulse button is pressed.

●WiFi: Search and connect to a local WiFi network.
●Calibrate Grind Position: Set the zero point of the grind setting indicator.
11

6.5 OPERATING THE GRINDER
The LUCCA Atom 75 can be operated in three different modes. Two manual modes--Continuous
and Timed Grind--provide a familiar workflow to experienced baristas.
The third, TrueGrind Recipe Mode, is unique to the LUCCA Atom 75. TrueGrind Recipe Mode
allows you to load a coffee bag, edit recipes, view the TrueGrind AI predicted grind setting or
save your own.
There are several features common to all modes:
1. Grind setting indicator: The grind setting indicator displays the distance between the
grinding burrs. Each increment of the grind setting indicator is factory calibrated to
correspond to a change of 0.005mm distance between the burrs.
2. Pulse button: The pulse button allows you to grind a small amount of coffee in a short
burst of time. You can adjust the pulse time from the Settings menu.
3. WiFi status indicator: Indicates the state of the WiFi connection.
4. Cup icon: The cup icon can be tapped to start or stop the grinder.
5. Grind timer: The timer displays either the last run time of the grinder or the preset grind
time, depending on the current grinding mode.
12

6.5.1 CONTINUOUS GRIND MODE
In Continuous Grind mode, the grinder motor is engaged by pressing
and holding either the pushbutton switch or the cup icon in the center of
the touchscreen. The timer counts up from zero for as long as the
pushbutton switch or cup icon is held.
6.5.2 TIMED GRIND MODE
In Timed Grind mode, the grinder motor is engaged by tapping either the
pushbutton switch or the cup icon in the center of the touchscreen. The
motor will run until the timer counts down from its preset time to zero, or
the pushbutton switch or cup icon is tapped again.
The user can adjust the preset grind time up or down by pressing the (+)
and (-) buttons beside the cup icon.
6.5.3 TrueGrind RECIPE MODE
TrueGrind Recipe Mode provides a dashboard to access, edit, and
display your stored coffee recipes. TrueGrind Recipe Mode will also
indicate the direction to turn the dial to reach the saved grind setting for
the active recipe.
To access TrueGrind Recipe Mode, first enable one of the coffees in your
personal collection in the TrueGrind app by tapping the toggle beside
coffee name. The coffee will then appear on the Select page. Tap the
coffee on the grinder’s touchscreen to enter TrueGrind Recipe Mode.
The cup icon and pushbutton switch work the same in TrueGrind Recipe
Mode as in Timed Grind mode. Edits made to the grind time are saved to
each recipe.
13

6.6 TrueGrind DIAL IN ASSISTANT
The Dial In Assistant lets you provide feedback to the TrueGrind prediction AI in order to get
more accurate grind setting predictions tailored to your particular technique, brewing
environment, equipment, and coffee.
You can access the Dial In Assistant by tapping the button while in Recipe Mode.
To use it, first bring up one of your coffee recipes in Recipe
Mode. Then, pull a shot, and make note of the shot’s actual
weight and time. If the actual weight and/or time were not
what you were targeting for this recipe, tap the Dial In
Assistant button to enter the shot’s actual weight and time.
Pro Tip:
You can use any coffee with the Dial In
Assistant, including coffees not yet available in
the TrueGrind AI mobile app!
TrueGrind will take those feedback values and recalculate
the coffee’s parameters, providing you with a new, more
accurate grind setting prediction. If necessary, repeat this
process until the shot you get is as close to the recipe
targets as possible.
14

7. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
⚠ ATTENTION
Unplug the appliance before performing any cleaning and maintenance operation.
⚠ ATTENTION
Do not pull the power cable or the appliance itself to disconnect the plug from the
power supply socket.
7.1 CLEANING
Cleanliness is a basic aspect for the proper functioning of the coffee grinder with a dosing unit. A
neglected coffee grinder with dosing unit may have a negative impact on coffee dispensing as
well as on the accuracy of dose and grinding. Before cleaning, make sure the appliance is
unplugged. At least once a week, clean the Coffee Hopper, removing the oily coat left by coffee
beans by means of a clean cloth.
It is furthermore necessary to often clean (several times a day) the dispensing spout through a
brush and a vacuum cleaner. In case such operations are not carried out, the aromatic oily part
contained in coffee may turn rancid with negative consequences on coffee, furthermore the lack
of cleanliness may jeopardize regularity of the dose itself.
Clean the base and exterior of the grinder by means of a damp cloth.
7.2 MAINTENANCE
⚠ ATTENTION
Maintenance is to be performed only by skilled personnel authorized by the
manufacturer.
⚠ ATTENTION
Do not carry out improvised or precarious repairing and do not use non original spare
parts.
In order to ensure proper functioning of the appliance, check and eventually replace the burrs
every 350kg of ground coffee.
The burrs in the LUCCA Atom 75 have been specially developed for use with the TrueGrind
system. Using any other burrs may result in a lower grind quality and consistency, and may
prevent the TrueGrind AI grind prediction system from providing accurate predictions.
Contact Clive Coffee or your retailer to purchase new factory-style burrs for the LUCCA Atom 75.
15

8. TROUBLESHOOTING
Customers in the USA can contact Clive Coffee for support.
Customers worldwide can contact their local reseller or their coffee technical services provider.
8. FIRMWARE UPDATES
From time to time, LUCCA may release new versions of the grinder’s firmware to fix bugs or add
features. Your LUCCA Atom 75 can download and install these firmware updates while connected
to a WiFi network.
If a firmware update has been made available to download, a notification will appear on screen
when powering up the grinder. You can also check your current firmware version and check for
available updates by navigating to Settings>About>Firmware.
