nik! You have chosen the perfect combination of a reliable frame, high-quality com-
ponents and powerful drive technology.
Regular care and maintenance are essential to ensure the long-term serviceability of
the electronic and mechanical drive components.
We therefore ask you to read these instructions carefully before using your bike for
the first time and to follow the described instructions for the functions of the
electrical drive and the care of the battery as well as the handling of the charger.
If, despite these operating instructions, you still have unanswered questions, your M1
specialist dealer will of course be pleased to help you at any time. We thank you for
your trust and wish you much pleasure and a good ride on your M1 bike.

Since in some EU countries the type of motor assistance has consequences under
driving license law, a distinction is made between the following groups:
Pedelec - 25 km/h
Electric bicycles with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h
S-Pedelec (Speed Pedelec) - 45 km/h
Electric bicycles with pedal assistance up to 45 km/h
The decisive difference between M1-Pedelecs and M1-S-Pedelecs is in the legal
handling. The bikes hardly differ in terms of construction, only the speed and motor
configuration.

E-BIKES CATEGORISATION

PEDELEC
An electric bicycle with limited pedal assistance up to 25 km/h. On an electric bike
with limited pedal assistance, the motor only works if you apply a certain amount of
force to the pedal. The motor therefore only supports your own pedaling. Pedelecs
are exempt from the EU Motor Vehicle Directive if they are limited to an average
motor output of 250 W and the motor assistance is limited to 25 km/h or higher.
This means that pedelecs do not require an operating license and are not subject to
helmet, insurance or driver's license requirements in Germany. However, the M1
team generally recommends wearing a helmet! In terms of the German StVO, only
these "normal" pedelecs are considered bicycles.

S-
PEDELEC
An electric bicycle with pedal assistance up to 45 km/h. With S-Pedelecs, the motor
also only works when you apply a certain force to the pedal. This means that the
motor only supports your own pedaling on S-Pedelecs. Helmets are compulsory for
S-Pedelecs in Germany, and at least a Class AM driver's license is required. In addi-
tion, S-Pedelecs are subject to insurance and may only be used on cycle paths if also
approved for mopeds with the relevant road traffic sign and always outside of town.
In the legal sense of the term, S-Pedelecs are "low-powered mopeds" in vehicle class
L1e-B.

SAFETY INFORMATION

ROAD TRAFFIC LICENSING REGULATIONS (STVZO)
The general regulations of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) apply to
the use of electric bicycles on public roads and in traffic. These regulations must be
observed when using your M1 Pedelec or S-Pedelec on public roads and in traffic.
Please take into account the current conditions for the use of forest paths or trails in
the individual municipalities and countries, as many regions have their own regula-
tions in this regard.
GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
Please observe the rules for safe cycling, as, as with other sports, the risk of injuries
while cycling cannot be ruled out. In spite of all your ambitions, always ride carefully,
avoid risks and for your own safety, do not overestimate yourself. Always ride within
your own limits. Always wear adequate protective clothing including a helmet, as this
is the best way to protect your head from injury. Please keep this in mind, even for
rides that seem harmless. The M1 team recommends wearing a helmet as a matter
of principle!
TECHNICAL SAFETY INFORMATION
These original operating instructions include useful information on the correct use
and regular service of the drive components. We recommend that you have the sys-
tem properly serviced or repaired only by your authorised M1 dealer. Improper in-
stallation and repair can lead to malfunctions and accidents. Failure to follow instruc-
tions and safety precautions could result in damage to the product, electric shock,
fire and/or serious injury. Damage resulting from non-observance of these instruc-
tions and from improper installation or repair will void the warranty and the guaran-
tee. For legal reasons, the battery is not shipped fully charged. However, since the
battery partially discharges due to technical-physical causes, the battery must be fully
charged once before using it for the first time. Afterwards, it should be ridden com-
pletely empty at least once so that the entire system can "learn" the capacity of the
battery.

THE FIRST RIDE
Familiarise yourself with your new M1 bike before your first ride. Pay attention to
the position of the brake levers and their assignment to the front or rear wheel. The
factory setting is for the rear brake to be operated with the right brake lever, while
the left lever brakes the front wheel. Get used to the brakes first at low speed. Always
increase gradually from the lowest assist level. Get familiar with the riding character-
istics, motor operation and gear shifting of your M1 bike away from traffic. Adjust
your saddle to a position that is comfortable for you. Practice using the walk-assist.
Your Erzberg is equipped with disc brakes which must first be bedded in. To do this,
you need about 30 short braking operations, in which you should brake from approx-
imately 25 km/h to a standstill. Be sure to use the brakes in a controlled manner to
prevent them from locking-up. After the bedding in process, the brakes should be
applied evenly & equally using smooth and consistent brake lever pressure.

SAFETY INFORMATION

BEFORE EVERY RIDE
Please check that your bike is in good working order before each ride. Make sure that
the wheels are correctly aligned and securely fastened, and check the tire pressure.
Test the brakes, gears and suspension. Check all components for faults or damage,
ensure that all quick-releases and thru axles are firmly secured and locked. Test the
function of the horn and light. Before riding off, please make sure that the battery is
correctly seated and locked. Check the cable, battery and drive for damage. In the
event of defects, please do not use your bike, but have it inspected & repaired by an
authorized M1 dealer.

OPERATING & USING THE ALLROUND DISPLAY

The Walk Assist function may only be used when pushing the e-bike.

POSSIBLE ERROR MESSAGES:
Speed sensor error: Check speed sensor and position of spoke magnet
Bike lighting error: Switch off the system completely before checking
all cables and plugs of the lighting system for dam-
age or loose contacts. Restart the system.
Internal system error detected: Restart the system. If the problem persists, contact
your authorized M1 dealer.
Brake light error: Switch off the system completely before checking
all lines and plugs of the brake system. Restart the
system.

MENU AND DISPLAY SETTINGS
To enter the display settings menu, press and hold the
T3
button for two seconds.
The
T4 (+)
and
T5 (-)
buttons can now be used to navigate up or down the displayed
list. The desired option can be accessed with the
T3
button. The
T6
button is used to
access the higher-level list or exit the menu.
MENU
Trip Information: Overview of the trip information.
Reset: Resets trip Information display values. Confirm by
pressing the
T3
button again.
Settings: see Settings section.
SETTINGS
Language: Display language selection.
Screens: Selection of the desired trip information.
Display: Adjustment of the display.
Automatic: automatically controls the display brightness as
well as the day and night display (white/black).
Brightness: Adjust the display brightness. This can only be
changed if the automatic option is deactivated.
White/Black: Switch between white and black background.
Display off: The backlight of the display is switched off after
5 seconds of inactivity. All e-bike and display functions re-
main active. Press any button to turn the backlight back on.
Change design: Attention, when changing to "Clear design"
be sure to change the unit from miles to km.
System: Refer to the System Settings section.
Information: Displays information about your Brose Drive
System.

SYSTEM
Light: Activate automatic bicycle lighting or switch on bicycle
lighting permanently.
Units: (km/miles): The displayed units can be changed be-
tween kilometers and miles
Time Format: (12h/24h) the displayed time information can
be changed. (optional)
Battery Status: Selection between battery display as seg-
ments or in percent (%).
Clock: (hh:mm) (optional)
Set the desired time with the T4 (+) and T5 (-) buttons. Con-
firm with the T3 button. Exit the menu with the T6 button
Shutdown Time: Define the automatic shutdown time (1 - 20
min) of your Brose Drive System.
Custom Assistance: Individually adjust your assist mode indi-
vidually to your needs in 1% increments.
Default settings: Pressing the T3 button again resets all set-
tings to the factory default settings.

RIDE ASSIST
During the ride, you can choose from 4 custom assist modes. It
is always recommended to start in a low/light gear, regardless of
the selected assistance. This significantly reduces wear.
Your M1 bike is equipped with high-quality sensors that
constantly monitor the mechanical systems during the ride. On
the S-Pedelec, both brake levers are equipped with sensors that
ensure an immediate interruption of motor assistance during the
braking process. A torque sensor in the drive housing measures
your own pedalling power and automatically calculates the assist
force to be applied, depending on the selected assist mode. A
speed sensor measures the actual speed and shows it on the
display. The remaining range indicator is continuously updated
during the ride and calculated depending on the preselected assistance level. If you
switch on the system and call up the remaining range display when the bike is at a
standstill, the correct value will not be displayed. After you have ridden a little bit, the
system can calculate the value again depending on the boundary conditions, and you
will be able to see the updated indication in the display. When the bike is new and
used for the first time, this display must "learn" independently, i.e. the remaining range
displayed may only work reliably after the battery has been used and depleted for
the first time.

The small sprockets (10s, 11s, 13s, 15s, 17s) can be purchased sep-
arately at specialist shops. It is not necessary to buy a complete new
cassette in the case of a cracking drive or jumping chain due to worn
sprockets. Regular chain lubrication reduces wear and tear, and can
prevent the chain from jumping under heavy load.

Never shift gears under full load! Always take the pressure off the
pedal and change gears ready before the incline.

RIDING WITHOUT BATTERY
Riding the bike is also possible without the battery. In this case, however, you will not
have a speedometer display. This is also the case if you have ridden the battery to
100% empty.
HINWEIS
If the battery is removed from the e-bike or the battery is completely
discharged, the light will not illuminate. The system automatically
switches off pedal assistance when the reserve is reached (approx. 2%)
in order to continue to supply the lighting system for a limited period of
time. If the e-bike does not have a functioning light system, it no longer
complies with the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) and may
therefore not be used on public paths or roads.

If the battery is removed from the e-bike, dirt and water can penetrate
the frame and cause damage. M1 advises against use without the bat-
tery.
INFORMATION & ADVICE ON THE BATTERY AND CHARGING PROCESS
Please read the safety instructions carefully for the battery and charging process
before charging!
Lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory effect. Therefore, you can recharge the
battery at any time without affecting the charging capacity. The charger can remain
connected to the battery for an unlimited time without any problems. However, we
ask you to disconnect the battery from the mains supply after it has been fully
charged in order to save valuable resources. The charging process may also be in-
terrupted at any time.
The battery reaches its maximum service life when it is charged at an ambient tem-
perature of between +5° C and +30° C and stored at between +10° C and +20° C.

Ambient temperatures below +10° C and above +30° C can affect the
range.

If the battery is removed from the e-bike, dirt and water can penetrate
the frame and cause damage. M1 advises against use without the bat-
tery.

If necessary, remove dirt from the charging socket or charging plug with
a clean dry cloth.

Allow the battery to cool down after long or demanding rides before
starting the charging process.

The charger may generate heat during charging. If the charger gener-
ates excessive heat, the charging process should be paused and the
charger should be disconnected from the mains supply.

CHARGING THE BATTERY IN THE E-BIKE
To charge the battery while seated in the down tube, proceed as follows:
1. Turn off your e-bike and make sure that all contact are clean
and dry.
2. Plug the charger into a power outlet and wait until the green
LED slowly flashes.
3. The charging cable can now be plugged into the charging port
provided on the frame of the bike.
4. During charging, the green LED flashes steadily and the
charging process is indicated on the display.
5. As soon as the battery is fully charged, the green LED is
illuminated continuously. The charger can now be discon-
nected from the e-bike and the plug can be removed from the
power supply.
CHARGING THE BATTERY REMOVED FROM THE E-BIKE
The battery can also be charged when removed. To do so, remove the battery from
the frame. The charging process is the same as described above, except that you
insert the charging plug directly into the charging port of the battery. The charging
status is displayed via the 5 LEDs on the underside of the battery. After the charging
process is complete, the battery can be refitted into the frame. Be sure to check the
battery is properly engaged before the next ride.
WARNING!
Handle the removed battery with extreme care and do not drop it under
any circumstances. Danger of explosion!

Do not charge your battery outdoors, especially on cold days. If you
remove the battery from the bike for charging and park your M1 bike
outdoors during the charging process, you should protect the connec-
tions from rain, moisture, humidity and dirt, e.g. with a plastic bag.

CHECK THE CHARGE STATUS OF THE BATTERY
With the battery installed, you can see the charge status on
the display screen when the display is switched on.
To check the charge status of a removed battery, first briefly
press the button on the underside of the battery (lock side)
once. The battery powers on and all 5 LEDs flash in sequence.
Briefly press the button again and the charge level is dis-
played, with each green LED representing 20% of the total
capacity. Switch the battery off again by pressing and holding
the button for approx. five seconds. The LEDs go out one
after the other and the battery is powered off.
CORRECT BATTERY STORAGE
Store your battery in a dry place at room temperature between +10° C and +20° C.
Avoid very low or very high temperatures, otherwise you will shorten the service life
of the battery. For longer storage periods, store the battery at a charge level of 50 -
60 %.

Make sure that the battery is connected to the charger for an hour periodically,
even if the bike is not used for a longer period of time. It is essential to recharge
the battery for one hour within a three month period to prevent deep discharge!
Additionally, never store a depleted battery without immediately recharging it
for at least one hour. If the discharged battery is not recharged, deep discharge
can occur even faster. A deeply discharged battery can only be recharged in
very few cases, and a warranty claim is excluded in this case. When checking
out the system, the battery electronics show, among other things, whether the
battery has been deep-discharged during usage.

1. Remove battery, switch off: Press LED foil button for approx. 5 sec.
2. Restart the battery, briefly press the button on the LED foil.
3. Battery is possibly overheated, allow to cool down
4. Connect the battery to the charger for approx. 5 minutes.
5. Battery defective. Please contact your specialist dealer.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BATTERY AND CHARGING PROCESS

Never force the plug into the charging port. The charging plug has a
predefined plug-in direction.
WARNING!
Never charge your Li-ion battery unattended! After charging is com-
plete, disconnect the charger from the mains supply.
WARNING!
Never open the components of the drive unit and especially not the
battery! Improper opening or intentional damage to the battery poses
a risk of serious injury. Opening or tampering with the electrical and
mechanical components of the drive, the battery or the charger and
tampering with the software will void the warranty and guarantee.
WARNING!
Never use a defective battery or a defective charger. Defective elec-
trical components and cables can lead to short circuits and must be
replaced immediately by a suitable specialist dealer.
If you are not absolutely sure or have any questions, contact your au-
thorized M1 dealer.
WARNING!
Only charge your battery with the charger supplied. Do not use a
charger from another manufacturer, even if the plug of the charger
fits your battery. The battery may heat up, ignite or even explode!
WARNING!
Do not charge any other electrical device with the supplied charger.
Charge only the M1 product with which you received this charger.
Only use the purchased battery in the M1 product with which you
purchased this battery.
WARNING!
Never charge your battery unattended or overnight. It is best to
charge your battery during the day and only in dry and fireproof
rooms. Preferably in rooms equipped with a smoke or fire detector,
though not in a bedroom.
WARNING!
Place or lay the battery on a large, non-flammable surface, e.g. ceramic
or glass, during charging and do not expose the battery or charger to
direct sunlight. Danger of explosion!
WARNING!
Make sure that the battery and charger do not get into the hands of
children!

WARNING!
The battery as well as the charger must not get wet or be immersed
in water! Danger of explosion! Never clean the battery with a steam
cleaner or garden hose.
WARNING!
If the temperature changes rapidly from cold to warm, there is a risk
of condensation forming on the charger. It is best to connect the
charger to the mains supply only when the charger has reached the
temperature of the warm room.
WARNING!
The charger may only be connected to a 100-240 volt electrical outlet.
Please be sure to check whether the existing mains voltage is identical
to the connection voltage of the charger before connecting the
charger to the mains supply. The supply voltage of the charger can
also be found on the identification plate on the rear of the device.
WARNING!
Never place the battery near a fire or very hot objects, such as a radi-
ator, as heat exposure can cause the battery to explode. Furthermore,
high temperatures reduce the service life of the battery. Therefore,
always ensure sufficient air circulation during the charging process.
WARNING!
Immediately unplug the charger from the wall outlet if you notice an
unusual odor or smoke. Remove the battery from the charger and con-
tact your authorized M1 dealer immediately.
WARNING!
If it is necessary to replace the battery or charger, use only original
spare parts from your authorized M1 dealer. Never use third-party
spare parts or accessories, as this increases the risk of damage and
malfunction and voids the warranty and guarantee.

Disposal of the battery in normal household waste is not permitted!
Disposal in accordance with the Battery Disposal Act is required.
Therefore, the seller of a new battery must take back your old battery
and dispose of it properly.

REMOVING THE BATTERY

Insert the key and turn the lock counter-
clockwise.

Lock the battery lock (remove the key
and keep it in a safe place).

Insert the battery with the top end first
(see picture). The charging connector
must fac upwards.
3.
Fully insert the battery into the down
tube and let the lock snap into place
with an audible click (check that it is
firmly seated by gently pulling on the
battery cover).

THE SUSPENSION
Negative Suspension Travel (SAG) is the distance your suspension compresses due
to the load of your body weight and personal bike equipment. To adjust the
suspension set- up, sit on your bike, measure the SAG using the O rings (rubber ring)
and adjust the air pressure accordingly.
For the air pressures required, please refer to the attached manufacturer technical
descriptions of the suspension fork and shock. The valve for attaching a damper high-
pressure pump can be found at the marked positions. A conventional tire pump
cannot be used.

Never use a compressor to fill the spring elements.
WARNING!
Always ensure sufficient air pressure in the shock and suspension fork.
If you pedal through corners with too little air pressure (too much neg-
ative travel), the pedal may touch down and you may fall. If your sus-
pension components have a lockout function, never ride into descents
with the lockout of the shock or fork locked to avoid damage to the
shock and frame.
THE STAND ON YOUR M1 BIKE
On S-Pedelecs that are lighter than 34 kg, side stands are permitted that do not
retract automatically when you want to start the bike.
WARNING!
Make sure that you retract the side stand with your foot before start-
ing off with your M1 bike. An extended side stand can throw you and
your bike off balance during cornering by hitting the floor and causing
serious crashes.
