Shut down procedures.
Changing pellets.
Turn the power switch to OFF. The PELLET BOSS will automatically
go into cool-down mode and may run for up to (20) twenty minutes
before the grill completely shuts off.
1. Turn the power switch to off and let unit cool down completely.
2. Place bucket completely under pellet dump door.
3. Open door and remove pellets.
4. Close door and add new variety of pellets.
5. Cook on high for 5 minutes to allow new flavor to begin burning.
NOTE: Always wait at least 10 minutes after grill has completely
shut-down before placing the cover back on the grill. Never place
a cover on a hot grill.
Most BBQ recipes will tell you to cook all of your meats around 200 to
250 degrees until they reach optimal temperature. You will need to use
the meat thermometer to accurately determine this temperature.
Burgers, steaks veggies etc. can be cooked quickly on HIGH if you
wish over the Flame Zone™. You may also fry foods in an all metal
skillet over the Flame Zone™. Remember the hotter the setpoint
temperature is the faster your food cooks and less smoke flavor you
will get. The old BBQ saying “Low and Slow” really makes a big
difference in taste!
Smoking foods on the main grill can be done on the smoke and lower
temperature settings.
The warmer/smoker box is designed to use while cooking on higher
temperatures to keep foods ready to serve while your preparing more,
it will run approx 180 degrees. It may also be used for “cold smoking”
foods such as cheese on the smoke setting.

MANUAL MODE is designed as a back-up in case of a
thermocouple failure. If your thermocouple fails the unit will not be able to
detect the actual grill temperature. Therefore it will not function properly.
In this case you will have to enable the manual mode if you choose to
operate your grill until a new thermocouple is installed. MANUAL mode is
a timed sequence so grill temperatures will vary.

MAK GRiLLS Owners Manual • Pellet BBQ Smoker-Grill • Model EP-429-2G 18

We recommend cleaning the unit after every empty pellet hopper.
(Approximately every 20 hours.)
Use a whiskbroom and the ash clean out door to sweep ash out of the
cooking chamber into a bucket. A shop vacuum works great if you have
one. You can easily remove the firepot to dump out ash by removing the
pin and pulling out the pot to the right.
Cleaning the outside can be done with mild soap and water; you can
clean the stainless with harsh cleansers but be careful not to let them
get on the powder-coated finish.
Cleaning the grates and grease tray can be done with a wire brush.
Since the grates are stainless you can use any type of brush you want
but be careful not to brush any of the the powder coated surfaces. You
may wish to place tin foil over the grease tray to keep it clean while
cooking for even easier clean up.
Keep the thermocouple (inside the back left corner of the grilling area)
clean so it can correctly detect the correct temperature inside the grill.
You can do this with a damp cloth, be careful not to bend it!
Keep the louvered exhaust vents clean from exhaust
build-up so the grill can exhaust the smoke & heat properly. Use a
nylon or soft bristle brush or a damp cloth to clean the four sets of
louvered vents. The vent locations are:
1. One set on behind the lid.
2. One set going into the warmer box on the left.
3. One set on the right going out of the warmer box.
BE SURE UNIT IS COLD!
IMPORTANT:
Although your MAK GRILL is designed to minimize outside
moisture getting inside the unit it is always best to keep covered
when not in use. This will help keep your grill working and looking
great for many years. Be sure to keep your pellets dry, wet pellets
will expand and could cause your pellet feed system to jam.
