AnapplicationforA THREEYEARSERVICECONTRACTisincludedwiththismanual.
Thetermsofthecontractare:
1.Iftheinstrumentcoveredbythiscontractbecomesdefective,Mclntoshwillprovideallparts,
materials,andlaborneededtoreturnthemeasuredperformanceoftheinstrumenttothe
originalperformancelimitsfreeofanycharge.Theservicecontractdoesnotcoverany

pairsintoeither8 or4 ohmloads.Eachofthe8 channelsoftheMC7108canproduce40
wattsintoa 4 ohmload.Eachofthe4 bridgedpairscanproduce100wattsinto4 ohmloads.

CHANNELMODES
Eachofthefourpairsofchannelshasathreeposition MODEswitch. InSTEREOmode, each
channelcanbeoperatedasa separatemonoamplifier, oras fourstereopairs. In MONOmode,
the two (separate) stereo signals are combined to mono in each channel. The volume level of
eachmonochannelofthepaircanbecontrolledbyitsownLEVELcontrol. TheBRIDGEDmode
combines the two channels in bridged configuration as described above.
OperatingconfigurationNumber1 isidealfora multi-arearemotecontrolledaudiosystem.
Thefourpairsofchannelsmakeanidealpoweramplifiertooperatethefourremoteareas
controlledbya MclntoshCR10RemoteControlSystem.
OperatingconfigurationNumber1 isalsoidealfora MclntoshHomeTheaterSystemusing
theMC7108togetherwitha MclntoshC39orMX130Audio/VideoControlCenter.A rearpanel

EachofthesixaudiosignalsarefedtosixoftheMC7108channelsintheorderspecified
inthemanualsectiondescribingtherearpanelconnections.
OperatingconfigurationNumber4 isidealfora MclntoshHomeTheaterSystemusingthe
MC7108togetherwiththeMclntoshMX118Audio/VideoTunerControlCenter.ThefiveDolby
SurroundProLogic™processedsoundtracksarereproducedinthefollowingmanner.Three
bridged100wattpairscanbeusedfortheLeftFront,CenterandRightFrontloudspeakers.
Theremainingtwo40wattchannelscanbeusedfortheLeftandRightSurroundloudspeakers.
INTRODUCTION
TheMC7108canbeplaceduprightona tableorshelf,standingonitsfourplasticfeet.
Theamplifiercanalsobecustominstalledina cabinetofyourchoice.Themountingpanel
cutout,mountingshelfventilationcutoutandamplifierdimensionsareshowninthediagrams
foundona pagefurtherbackinthismanual.
Alwaysprovideadequateventilationfortheamplifier.Thetroublefreelifeofanyelectronic
instrumentisgreatlyextendedbyprovidingsufficientventilationforpropercooling.

Allowatleast1-1/2inches(3,8cm)abovetheheatsinkareatoallowthefreeflow
ofair.Therecommendedminimumdepthformounting,includingclearanceforcon-
nectors,is20inches(51cm)behindthefrontmountingpanel.Clearancerequiredin
frontofthemountingpane!surfaceis1 inch(2.54cm).Ifmountedina customcabinet,
cutouta ventilationholeintheamplifiermountingshelfaccordingtotherecommended
dimensions.

DISPLAY
AfrontpanelRedLEDindicatorisprovidedforeachofthefourpairsofchannels.This
indicatorturnsonwhenthespeakerrelaysforthatspecificchannelpairturnon.
AlleightchannelsoftheMC7108incorporatetheMclntoshPOWERGUARDcircuitwhich
preventsoutputclippingwithitsharshanddamagingdistortion.A frontpanelLEDPower
Guardindicatorisprovidedforeachoftheeightchannels.TheLEDlightswheneverthepower
Guardcircuitisactivatedforanyparticularchannel.Thisindicatesthattheamplifierispro-
ducingitsmaximumundistortedpoweroutput,andthatyouarebeingprotectedfromover-
driveandclipping.TheoutputlevelwherePowerGuardactswillbeweltabovetherated
powerduetoconservativeMclntoshdesignphilosophy.
(If the POWER GUARD indicators turn on and stay on continuously for any given pair of
channels, it indicates a problem is present. If this condition occurs, contact your Mclntosh
dealer for assistance.)

The POWER CONTROL connectors are standard 1/8 inch mini phone plugs. Only the tip
and sleeve are used for connecting the plug to a single conductor shielded cable.
