Cleaning the thermal head
The thermal head should be cleaned from time to time, to keep the surface of the thermal-head-line free
from paper dust and other particles (e.g. small paper snippets) to get a good heat transfer from heat
elements to the paper.
Especially, if you have small vertical white or grey lines in your printout and at the test-print list is written
“defect dots: 0” (electric defect dots). Then you should perform this procedure.
1. Switch off 24V power supply for the printer
2. Open the thermal head flap of the printer with the green unlock button (Figure 1-3).
3. Remove inserted paper from printer.
4. If the case, you have paper snippets in this area of printer, remove careful this parts.
5. Clean the heat elements using a cotton swab dipped in ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol (Figure
4-6).
6. Remove all foreign parts from inside the printer.
7. Close the thermal head flap after the alcohol has dried completely.
Precautions for cleaning the thermal head:
Do not clean the thermal head immediately after printing, because the temperature of the ther-
mal head and its peripherals rises very high during and immediately after printing.
Do not touch the thermal head with your finger, because of possible hot surface.
Clean the thermal head only with open head flap.
Do not use sandpaper, a cutter or knife or anything with may damage the heat elements for
cleaning

5.8 Wiring
If the printer edito KSM 347x is supplied separately, note the nominal value of the input voltage for the
edito printer KSM 347x, see under point 11.6 Power.
If you use a power source, observe the compliance with the safety standards and EMC regulations.
5.9 Paper loading (Autoload)
Make sure the Print head flap is closed and the printer is connected to power source. Make also sure,
the complete paper channel is free, so paper can load automatically into the printer. If after power on,
the green and red LED’s in bezel are lightning, then are the printer is ready for load the paper. Shift the
new thermal paper roll over the paper core (1). The sensitive layer of paper must be the outside roll
layer. Make sure the paper roll cannot fall from the paper axis (plastic paper roll core is in the right
position). Cut with a scissors the end of the paper and push the paper smoothly from back side in the
slot at the flex paper channel (2). The printer motor will turn on and feed the paper in the printer. The
printer will print “edito”, cut the paper and depends of model, the paper will be presented or comes
out to the bezel. If red LED was also lightning (no paper inside) red LED is switched off (refer program-
ming manual). If printer feed not the paper immediately, please remove the paper from flex paper chan-
nel and try it again to push the paper in the printer. If only green LED’s are lightning after paper load,
the printer is ready for use.

5.10 Adjust tension unit to paper roll position
The tension unit separate by start of printing the first inertia torque of a bigger paper roll from the
printing unit (by using a spring). This is important to get a good print quality. Default setting is the paper
comes from the top. If the paper comes from bottom, the tension unit must be adjusted (working direc-
tion is the opposite).
The tension unit is the up and down moving part, located on the flex paper channel, with the paper
input guide.
For change working direction, please use following instructions:
1. Disconnect the paper near end cable from printer.
2. Remove the center-screw at the bottom of the printer. (Use a nut driver with 5,5mm).
3. Remove the screw in the middle of the channel for fixing the sensorcable ( mark and paper end),
so cable is more free (It is not necessary to open the printer body).
4. Shift the complete flex paper channel some centimeters backside. (Be aware of sensor cable)
5. Use a small tool to shift the spring from top to down position or the opposite way (see pictures).
6. Do this on both sides of the paper-holder and use the same position (up or down)
7. Shift the complete flex paper channel back in the printer body.
8. Place the center-screw at the bottom of the printer and fix this screw correctly, so the paper
channel with paper-holder is fixed very well.
9. Mount the screw in the middle of the channel for fixing the sensorcable ( mark and paper end ).
10. Connect the paper near end cable at the printer
11. Check the proper function of tension unit in case of direction and by view of the tension.
