The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within an equilateral triangle is intended to
alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product
enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to
persons.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the
presence of important operating maintenance (servicing) instructions literature
accompanying the appliance.

Do not use attachments not recommended by
the unit’s manufacturer as they may cause
hazards.
6. WATER AND MOISTURE
Do not use this unit near water–for example,
near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink or
laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a
swimming pool.
7. ACCESSORIES
Do not place this unit on an unstable cart,
stand, tripod, bracket or table. The unit may
fall, causing serious injury and serious damage
to the unit.
8. VENTILATION
Openings in the front and back of the unit are
provided for ventilation to ensure reliable
operation and to protect it from over heating.
These openings must not be blocked or
covered. This unit should never be placed near
or over a radiator or heat source. This unit
should not be placed in a built-in installation
such as a bookcase or rack unless proper
ventilation is provided.
9. POWER SOURCES
This unit should be operated only from the type
of power source indicated on the rating label. If
you are not sure of the type of power supply in your
facility, consult your local dealer or power company.
10.GROUNDING AND POLARIZATION
This equipment is supplied with a power cord with a
US style 3-wire grounding type plug at one end and
a 3-wire IEC standard connector at the other. The 3-
wire grounding type plug will fit into a US style
grounding type power outlet and the IEC connector
is intended to plug into the Medéa unit. The 3-wire
grounding type plug is a safety feature. If you are
unable to insert the plug into the outlet, do not force
it. Contact your electrician to replace the obsolete
outlet. DO NOT DEFEAT THE SAFETY PURPOSE
OF THE GROUNDING TYPE PLUG. For use in
Foreign Countries, contact your local Medéa dealer
or representative to obtain a power cord with a
locally compatible 3-wire grounding plug on one end
and a 3-wire IEC standard connector on the other.
11. POWER-CORD PROTECTION
Power-supply cords should be routed so that they
are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items
placed upon or against them, paying particular
attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles
and the point where they exit the unit.
12.SERVICING
Do not attempt to service this unit yourself as opening
or removing covers may expose you to dangerous
voltages or other hazards. (See Caution Symbol at
rear of power supply chasis.) Refer all servicing to
qualified service personnel.
13.LITHIUM BATTERY
CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is
incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or
equivalent type. Dispose of used batteries according
to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Benutzen Sie keine Erweiterungen, die nicht

6. WASSER UND FEUCHTIGKEIT
Benutzen Sie das Gerät nicht in der Nähe von
Wasser–z.B. Badewanne, Waschschüssel,
Spüle, Waschwanne, feuchter Fußboden oder
in der nähe eines Pools.
7. ZUBEHÖR
Stellen Sie das Gerät nicht auf einen wackeligen
Rollcontainer, Ständer, Stativ, Regal oder Tisch.
Das Gerät könnte herunterfallen, was einen
bleibenden bzw. irreparablen Schaden an dem
Gerät hervorrufen könnte.
8. BELÜFTUNG
Öffnungen an der Vor- und Rückseite des
Gerätes sind für die Belüftung vorgesehen, um
eine zuverlässige Funktion zu garantieren und
gegen Überhitzung vorzubeugen. Diese
Öffnungen dürfen weder verstellt noch
zugedeckt werden. Das Gerät sollte niemals in
der Nähe einer Heizung oder einer anderen
Wärmequelle aufgestellt werden. Das Gerät
sollte außerdem nicht in einem Einbaugehäuse
wie einem Schrank, oder einem Rack installiert
werden, solange eine ausreichende Belüftung
nicht sichergestellt ist.
9. NETZANSCHLUß (STROMVERSORGUNG)
Das Gerät sollte nur mit der Spannungsversorgung,
die auf dem Geräteaufkleber ausgewiesen ist,
betrieben werden. Sollten Sie nicht sicher sein,
welche Art der Spannungsversorgung in Ihrem
Betrieb ver wendet wird, fragen Sie bei Ihrem
Händler oder der Stromversorgungsgesellschaft
nach.
10.ERDUNG UND POLUNG
Zur Ausstattung gehört ein Stromkabel mit einem
amerikanischen Schutzkontakt Stecker mit Erdung
auf der einen Seite und einem Kaltgeräte Stecker
auf der anderen (IEC Standard). Der
Schutzkontaktstecker passt in eine amerikanische
Schutzkontaktsteckdose und de Kaltgerätestecker in
ihr Medea Gerät. Der Schutzkontaktstecker ist eine
Sicherheitseinrichtung. Sollten Sie ihn nicht ich Ihre
Steckdose stecken können, wenden Sie keine
Gewalt an. Setzen Sie sich mit Ihrem Elektriker in
Verbindung um die Steckdose auszuwechseln.
Zerstören Sie unter keinen Umständen die
Sicherheitseinrichtung an Ihrem Stecker. Zur
Anwendung in anderen Ländern setzen Sie sich mit
Ihrem Medea Händler in Verbindung, der Ihnen ein
Landesübliches Stromkabel mit einem
Schutzkontaktstecker auf der einen und einem
Kaltgerätestecker auf der anderen Seite zur
Verfügung stellt.
11. STROMKABEL ISOLIERUNG
Stromkabel sollten so gelegt werden, dass man nicht
auf sie tritt, oder Geganstände auf ihnen stehen
bzw. gegen sie stoßen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit
sollte Leitungen und Steckern, sowie Kupplungen
und die Stelle an der sie das Gerät verlassen,
gewidment werden.
12.SERVICE
Versuchen Sie keinesfalls das Gerät selbständig zu
warten, oder das Gehäuse zu öffnen. Dies kann Sie
gefährlicher Spannung oder andern Gefahren
aussetzen. Überlassen sie alle Wartungsarbeiten
qualifiziertem Service Personal.
13.LITHIUM BATTERY
VORSICHT! Explosionsqefahr bei unsachgemä
Bem Austausch der Batterie. Ersatz nur durch
denselben oder einen Vom Hersteller empfohlenen
gleichwertigen Typ. Entsorgung gebrauchter
Batterien nach Angaben des Herstellers.

10.PUESTA A TIERRA Y POLARIZACIÓN
El equipo se entrega con un cable alimentador con
un enchufe con puesta a tierra de 3 alambres en un
extremo y un enchufe estándar IEC (Comité
Electrotécnico Internacional) de tres alambres en el
otro. El enchufe con puesta a tierra de 3 alambres
se conecta a un tomacorri ente con puesta a tierra y
el conector IEC tiene por objeto enchufarse a una
unidad Medea. El enchufe con puesta a tierra de 3
alambres es una medida de seguridad. Si no le es
posible conectar el enchufe a un tomacorriente, no
lo fuerce. Póngase en contacto con un electricista
para sustituir el tomacorriente obsoleto. NO FRUSTRE
LA MEDIDA DE SEGURIDAD INCORPORADA POR
EL ENCHUFE CON PUESTA A TIERRA. Para uso en
países extranjeros, póngase en contacto con su
distribuidor local de Medea o su representante para
obtener un cable alimentador con un enchufe con
puesta a tierra de 3 alambres en un extremo y un
enchufe estándar IEC de tres alambres en el otro
compatible en su país.
11. PROTECCIÓN DEL CABLE ALIMENTADOR
Los cables alimentadores se deberán de colocar de
manera que se evite que sean pisados o pellizcados
por algún equipo o mueble puestos encima de ellos o
contra ellos, poniendo especial atención al enchufe
del cable alimentador, receptáculos de protección o el
punto en que se conectan a la unidad.
12.SERVCIOS
No intente dar servicio a esta unidad por sí mismo
en virtud de que abrir la unidad o retirar alguna
cubierta lo puede exponer a voltajes peli grosos u
otros riesgos. Permita que el servicio lo realice
personal de servicio calificado.
13.LA PILA DE LITIO
PRECAUCIÓN: Existe gran peligro de explosión si
la pila se reemplaza incorrectamente. Reemplácela
únicamente con el mismo modelo o su equivalente
exacto. Deseche la pila anterior según las
instrucciones del fabricante.

d’un lavabo, d’un évier, d’une cuve à lessive ou

7. BAIES ET SUPPORTS
Ne pas placer l’appareil dans une baie ou sur
un support, un trépied, une console ou une
table instable. L’appareil pourrait tomber et
subir des dommages importants ou infliger de
graves blessures.
8. AÉRATION
Le boîtier de l’appareil comporte des fentes
d’aération à l’avant et à l’arrière pour assurer le
bon fonctionnement de l’appareil et le protéger
de la surchauffe. Ces fentes ne doivent pas être
obstruées ni recouvertes. Éloigner l’appareil de
toute source de chaleur telle les radiateurs et
autres éléments de chauffage. Ne pas placer
l’appareil dans un meuble encastré tel une
bibliothèque ou un bâti qui ne procure pas une
aération adéquate.
9. ALIMENTATION
Ne brancher l’appareil que dans une prise de
courant du type décrit sur l’étiquette
signalétique. En cas de doute sur le type

constitue une mesure de sécurité. Si elle ne
s’insère pas aisément dans la prise, ne pas
la forcer. Contacter un électricien pour
remplacer la prise désuète. NE PAS TENTER
DE CONTOURNER CETTE MESURE DE
SÉCURITÉ. Pour utiliser l’appareil à l’étranger,
se procurer un cordon d’alimentation compatible
avec la configuration électrique locale auprès
du distributeur ou du représentant Medea local.
11. PROTECTION DU CORDON D’ALIMENTATION
Les cordons d’alimentation doivent être
placés de manière qu’ils ne soient pas piétinés
ou écrasés par des objets et une attention
particulière doit être portée à la fiche, à la
prise et au point de sortie de l’appareil.
12.RÉPARATION
Ne pas tenter de réparer l’appareil, car
l’ouverture ou le retrait du boîtier peut vous
exposer à des tensions dangereuses ou à
d’autres risques. Confier toute réparation à
un technicien qualifié.
13.PILE AU LITHIUM
ATTENTION: danger d'explosion si la pile est
incorrectement remplacée. Remplacez avec
le même type ou equivalent uniquement.
Disposez des piles usagées en accord avec
les instructions du fabriquant.

ABOUT VIDEORAID RTS
VideoRaid RTS desktop disk arrays feature a high-performance Ultra160 SCSI interface and are the
ideal storage solution for all DCC applications including animation, special effects, and non-linear video
editing.
DATA REDUNDANCY AND REAL-TIME DESIGN
Medea’s real-time RAID controller ensures that VideoRaid RTS will continue to operate with no loss
of data and no degradation in performance in the unlikely event of a disk drive failure.
MULTI-STREAM TECHNOLOGY (MST™)
VideoRaid RTS disk arrays are optimized with Medea’s proprietary Multi-Stream Technology (MST).
MST is a sophisticated caching algorithm that utilizes VideoRaid’s on-board cache to support playback of
multiple streams of uncompressed video in real-time.

VIDEORAID RTS ACTIVITY LIGHTS
The disk drive activity indicators on the front bezel of
VideoRaid have two brightness settings. The brightness selec-
tor switch is located behind the removable front panel bezel as
shown below. Take care when removing the front bezel. The
bezel clips onto the chassis at the corners of the unit.
Slide the switch to toggle between the “bright” and “dim”
modes.
VIDEORAID RTS INSTALLATIONS
After you’ve successfully attached VideoRaid to your worksta-
tion, the VideoRaid disk array will be ready for partitioning
and formatting.
SETTING THE SCSI ID
Each internal or external SCSI peripheral attached to your
SCSI host adapter board must have a unique device identifier,
commonly referred to as a SCSI ID. The VideoRaid RTS
SCSI ID selector is located on the rear panel of the disk array as
shown in Figure 2.
VideoRaid RTS is shipped from the factory with a default SCSI
ID setting of ID 6. If your system does not include other SCSI
peripherals, use the default setting. If you have other internal or
external SCSI devices attached to your system, set the VideoRaid
SCSI ID to a setting that does not conflict with the SCSI ID
numbers on these devices.
NOTE: Most SCSI adapter boards ship with a utility that allows you to
scan the SCSI bus to determine the SCSI ID of each peripheral. Use
this utility to ensure that the SCSI ID you select for the VideoRaid RTS
does not conflict with these other peripherals. Do not use ID 7, as
most SCSI host adapters use this SCSI ID setting.
ATTACHING VIDEORAID RTS TO YOUR WORKSTATION
Follow the instructions below to attach the VideoRaid RTS
disk array to your workstation. After physically attaching
VideoRaid RTS to your system, the array will be ready for
partitioning and formatting as described on page 19.
VideoRaid RTS attaches to your DCC workstation using the
SCSI cable supplied with the unit.
NOTE: These instructions assume that a functioning Ultra160 SCSI
host adapter is already installed in your workstation. (Visit the Medea
web site at www.medea.com for a list of VideoRaid RTS compatible
SCSI host adapters.)

VIDEORAID RTS OPERATIONAL FEATURES
VideoRaid RTS‘s on-board RAID controller offers true real-time
performance for DCC applications and provides data protection
in the event of a disk drive failure.
FRONT PANEL INDICATORS
The “health” of a VideoRaid disk array is indicated by the
STATUS indicator located on the front bezel of the unit
directly under the POWER indicator as shown in Figure 1.
The STATUS indicator has four states as described below:
GREEN – System OK (see note below)
RED (flashing) – A disk drive has failed in the system. (see
note below)
RED (solid) – RAID controller failure
WHAT TODOIFADRIVE FAILS
In the event of a disk drive failure, VideoRaid RTS will continue
to operate but in an unprotected mode. In the unprotected
mode, the user can continue work in progress, however,
should another drive become inoperable, data will be lost. It
is important, therefore to have a failed disk drive
replaced at the user’s earliest convenience.
Drive Failure Notification – The STATUS indicator located
on the front bezel of VideoRaid RTS (see Figure 1) will flash
RED to alert the user that a disk drive has failed within the
unit. If this occurs, there are two options to remedy the situ-
ation:
1) Contact Medea Technical Support at [phone] to
obtain an RMA number. Pack up the system in the original
shipping container and return the unit to Medea. Make sure
that the RMA number is clearly printed on the outside of the
box. Medea will replace the failed disk drive and return the
unit in full working order (system is once again able to sustain
a drive failure without loss of data or functionality) and with
your content intact. Standard turn around times apply.
2) Contact Medea Technical Support at [phone] and
request a replacement system. Medea will send out another
VideoRaid RTS to which the content from the older system
can be copied. Once the data is copied to the new unit, pack
up the old system in the shipping container and return it to
Medea with the supplied RMA number. This scenario involves
a fee and a credit card number. Call for details.
NOTE: If the STATUS indicator glows solid RED or the system will not
power on, the unit must be shipped back to the factory for repair.
Contact Medea Technical Support at [phone] to obtain an RMA
number.
NOTE: During normal operation, the STATUS indicator will glow
GREEN. If a disk drive in the array should fail, the STATUS indicator
will begin to flash RED alerting the user that the system is now operating
in an “unprotected” mode. Work in progress can be completed in this
mode since the array will continue to operate as if nothing has
happened. If a second drive failure should occur while operating in
the “unprotected” mode, data stored on the array will be lost.

VIDEORAID RTS
1. Attach the supplied SCSI bus terminator to the SCSI
connector located on the rear panel of VideoRaid RTS as
shown below. Use thumbscrews to secure the terminator
in place.
WARNING! Damage to the terminator will result if not mated in the
correct orientation to the SCSI port on VideoRaid.
2. Attach one end of the supplied SCSI cable to the SCSI
connector located on the rear panel of VideoRaid RTS as
shown below. Use the thumbscrews to secure the cable in
place.
WARNING! Damage to the cable will result if not mated in
the correct orientation to the SCSI port on VideoRaid.
3. Attach the other end of the supplied SCSI cable to the
SCSI host adapter installed in your workstation as shown
below. Use thumbscrews to secure the cable in place.
4. Plug the AC power cord into the AC power jack located on
the rear panel of VideoRaid RTS as shown below. Plug the
other end of the cord into the nearest AC power receptacle.
5. You are now ready to partition and format your VideoRaid RTS.
PARTITIONING AND FORMATTING VIDEORAID
Now that VideoRaid is physically connected to your workstation,
the array must be initialized for use with your operating system.
NOTE: VideoRaid ships from the factory with default settings that are
compatible with the majority of content creation applications and systems.
If you are using one of the systems listed below, you MUST run the
VideoRaid Configuration Utility located on the enclosed CD-ROM
before proceeding. View the READ ME file on the CD-ROM for instruc-
tions on how to use this utility.
•Avid DS, DS HD, Film Composer, Media Composer (Mac &
Windows versions)
• DPS VelocityQ
• Media 100i
Please refer to the following section for instructions on
initializing the array for Windows 2000/XP.
•For Mac OS 10.2.x, proceed to page 15.

INITIALIZING VIDEORAID
WINDOWS 2000/XP WORKSTATIONS
NOTE: This procedure will create a Basic Disk volume on VideoRaid.
Initializing VideoRaid as a Basic Disk will enable you to use the array on
any workstation running MS-DOS or Windows 98se/ME/NT/2000/XP.
VideoRaid may also be initialized as a Dynamic Disk. Please refer your
Windows documentation for more information.
1. Power on the VideoRaid disk array, wait 20 seconds, then
power on your Windows XP workstation.
2. To open Disk Management, right-click on My Computer and
select Manage in the drop down window as shown in the
window below:
3. The Computer Management console will appear. Click on
Disk Management in the left-hand panel as shown below.
VideoRaid is identified as Disk 1 in this example.
4. Right-click on the Disk 1 entry as shown and select New
Partition from the pull-down menu.
5. The following window will appear. Click on Next to continue.
6. The following window will appear. Click on Next to continue.
7. The window on the following page will appear. Click on Next
to continue. This will create one large volume (one drive
letter) using all of the available space on the VideoRaid.

NOTE: Multiple partitions can be created on VideoRaid. Consult your
Windows documentation for instructions to set up multiple partitions.
8. The following window will appear. Windows will
automatically assign a drive letter (In this example–E:) to
VideoRaid. Accept this assignment and click the Next
button to continue.
9. The window below will appear. Enter a Volume Label:
(in this example–VideoRaid), check the Perform a
quick format box and click the Next button to continue.
10.The following window will appear. Click the Finish
button to continue.
11.Windows will format the volume and then display the following
window. Disk 1 is now identified as VideoRaid (E:).
12.VideoRaid will now be displayed as an available hard disk
drive under My Computer as shown below.
You are now ready to start editing with VideoRaid!

INITIALIZING VIDEORAID
MAC OS X (10.2.X) WORKSTATIONS
To initialize VideoRaid under Mac OS X 10.2.x, follow the
instructions below.
1. Power on your VideoRaid disk array, wait 20 seconds, then
power on your Mac OS X workstation. An Alert window
will appear as shown below. This is normal.
NOTE: If the Alert window does not appear, launch the Apple Disk Utility
located in the Utilities folder on the Macintosh HD.
2. Select Initialize... to open the Apple Disk Utility. A window
like the following will appear. VideoRaid will be displayed
in the left-hand column as shown.
3. Select VideoRaid by clicking on the entry in the left-hand
column as shown below. Information on the array will be
displayed on the right.
4. Select the Partition tab to view the partition options as
shown below.
5. Set the Volume Scheme: to Current. Enter a Volume Name:
under Volume Information (in this example–VideoRaid), set
format to Mac OS Extended, and if you intend to use the
module on a Mac running OS 9, check the box under Options.
NOTE: VideoRaid can be set up in multiple volumes if desired. Please
refer to the Apple documentation for instructions.
6. Click on the Partition button. The following Warning! window
will appear. Click on the Partition button to continue.

7. When partitioning is complete, VideoRaid will be displayed
in the left-hand window as shown below.
8. Exit the Disk Utility.
9. VideoRaid will be displayed on the desktop as shown
below.
You are now ready to start editing with VideoRaid!

3-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Medéa Corporation (Medéa) warrants to the purchaser of this product that it will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of three (3) years
from the date of purchase. If the product should become defective within the warranty period, Medéa, at its option, will repair or replace the product, or refund the
purchaser’s price for the product, provided it is delivered at the purchaser’s expense to an authorized Medéa service facility or to Medéa.
Repair or replacement parts or products will be furnished on an exchange basis and will be either new or reconditioned. All replaced parts or products shall
become the property of Medéa. This warranty shall not apply if the product has been damaged by accident, misuse, abuse or as a result of unathorized service or
parts.
Warranty service is available to the purchaser by obtaining a Return Material Authorization number (RMA) and by delivering the product during the warranty period
to an authorized Medéa service facility or to Medéa. The purchaser shall bear all shipping, packing and insurance costs and all other costs, excluding parts and
labor, necessary to effectuate repair, replacement or refund under this warranty. All returned product must be shipped to Medéa in the original shipping container.
