INTRODUCTION
We welcome you to the Family Radio Service (FRS) 2-way
"transceiver" (meaning "transmitter and receiver") radio, designed
for family and friends to keep in touch without the need for a
license, or radio knowledge. It provides safety and convenience
almost anywhere, indoors or outdoors.
The radio operates in Family Radio Service (FRS) designed
frequencies.
The FCC has established the license free, short range two way
radio service for family and individual recreational use -anywhere
in the United States & other areas listed by the FCC.
The optimal range for this 2-way radio is approximately 2 miles in
open areas, less in buildings, dense foliage, and mountains.

Before you operate the radio, read this instruction manual carefully
to know how to operate the radio.

PRECAUTIONS
.Do not modify or attempt to adjust the transceiver for any reason.
.Avoid extremes in exposure to water, heat, and cold. This
transceiver is weather resistant but not waterproof.
.Do not expose the transceiver to long period of direct sunlight,
nor place the transceiver close to heating appliances.
.Do not place the transceiver in excessively dusty areas, humid
areas, wet areas, nor on unstable surfaces.
.If an abnormal or smoke is detected coming from the
transceiver, immediately switch OFF the power and remove
the batteries from the transceiver. Contact your dealer.
UNPACKING
Carefully unpack the transceiver. We recommend that you iden-
tify the items listed below before discarding the packing material.

Display and Indicators
LED display -indicates Channel numbers, Volume level, Lock,
Beep, Low Battery Level, etc.
Transmission and Receiption indicator -When transmitting,
the indicator stays on. The indicator flashes when receiving a
singal.
Power Saver Mode indicator -flashes in Power Saver Mode.

Supplying Power
Install Batteries

4"AAA" alkaline batteries
1. (a) Lift the tab of the belt clip while
(b) pushing the clip up to remove it.
(c) Pull lock tab down and lift door up (towards you) to remove
battery cover.
2. Insert four "AAA" batteries. Position batteries according to
polarity markings. Reverse the steps in "1" to re-assemble.
Note: .Make sure the battery + and -terminals are aligned as
shown above.
.When batteries are low or need charging the BATTERY
LOW W will blink. Replace all batteries with new
alkaline batteries.

To Turn On The Unit or To Turn Off The Unit
Press the POWER switch for more than 1 second.
Auto Battery Power Saver
The unit has a special circuit designed to extend battery life. If
there are no transmissions within 3 seconds, the unit will
automatically switch to battery save mode. The Power Saver
Mode LED(Red) will flash.
Low Battery Indicator
When battery level becomes low, CD appears on the LED
display and flashes. Replace all four batteries with new ones.
To Transmit
Simply talk to the built-in microphone and press the PTT(Push-
To-Talk) button.
To Adjust VOLUME control
Press momentarily UP button to increase or DOWN button to
decrease volume.
The higher number (16), the higher volume level.
To Select Main Channel
1. Press the MENU button. The LED display indicates a flashing
number.
2. Press the UP or DOWN button to set a desired channel from 1
to 14.
3. Press the ENTER button.
Monitor
The Monitor function unmutes the speaker in any situation. Use
this function when received signals are too weak to recognize or
when you want to adjust the volume while listening to
background noise.

Automatic Channel Scan
Press and hold the UP or DOWN button to search signals.
When the unit catches a strong signal, scan will stop for 5
seconds.
If you want to stop at that channel, press the PTT or ENTER
button.
To Send Call Tone
Call tone sounds like a telephone ring, and is convenient for
quickly identify yourself to another party. Persons whom you call
will instantly recognize you because of your call tone.
Press the CALL button to send Call Tone. CD appears on the
LED display and flashes.

1. Press the MENU button twice. The LED display indicates as
shown at right.

Select Main Channel
Family Radio Services (FRS) radios have 14 primary channels a
communicate with others, all radios in your group must be set
to same channel and code. (see charts for more details)

The FRS 1700A unit represents one of the most advanced FM
two-way radios used.

We at MEMOREX believe you will be pleased with your new Product. Please
read this Warranty carefully. Memorex warrants this product to be free from
manufacturing defects including original parts and workmanship for a period of
ninety (90) days from the date of original purchase in, and if used in, the United
States.
Should you find your unit is not operating properly during the terms of full
coverage of this warranty, ninety (90) days, you should contact your original
place of purchase for an exchange with a valid receipt. If necessary, Memorex
will provide one of the following options (at Memorex's discretion), providing the
manufacturing defect is verified along with the date of purchase.
.Repair service for ninety (90) days from date of original purchase at no charge
for labor and parts at their authorized warranty service facility, providing the
manufacturing defect is verified along with the date of purchase.
.Replacement of defective unit with either a new, refurbished, or equivalent
model at no charge for ninety (90) days from date of original purchase.
This warranty is void if the product is :
A) Damaged through negligence, abuse, misuse, accident, or acts of God.
B) Used in commercial applications or rentals.
C) Modified or repaired by anyone other than Memorex or their expressly
authorized representative.
D) Damage resulting from the improper connection to equipment of other
manufacturers.
This warranty does not cover:
A) Cost incurred in the shipping of the product to and from the Memorex
authorized repair facility listed.
B) Damage or improper operation caused by the failure to follow the operating
instructions provided with the product.
C) Routine adjustments to the product, which can be performed by the
customer as outlined in the owner's manual.
D) Signal reception problems caused by external factors.
E) Products not purchased in the United States.
F) Damage to the products used outside the United States.
G) Damage to audiocassette tapes.
H) Damage to Compact Discs.

THIS WARRANTY IS NON-TRANSFERABLE AND APPLIES SOLELY TO THE
