SOMERTON 7 KW WOOD STOVE
This manual refers to the stove listed above, which is tested in accordance with EN 13240.
Congratulations on your purchase of a new stove from Mendip Stoves. Please read this manual carefully to ensure that
you get maximum enjoyment from your new stove and to prevent any problems. Please note that “all local regulations,
including those referring to national and European Standards, need to be complied with when installing this appliance”.
For further information on installing and using fireplaces and wood burning stoves, please see the relevant building
regulations that apply to the country in which Somerton has been approved, as well as the relevant brochure on the
correct use of wood burning stoves available from your local stove supplier or your Chimney sweep.
These instructions cover the basic principals to ensure the satisfactory installation for Somerton convection wood stove,
although detail may need slight modification to suit particular local site conditions.

These instructions cover the basic principles to ensure the satisfactory installation of the Mendip Stoves
Ltd :- Somerton 2 model, although detail may need slight modification to suit particular local site
conditions.
In all cases the installation must comply with current Building Regulations, Local Authority Byelaws and
other specifications or regulations as they affect the installation of the stove.
It should be noted that the Building Regulations requirements may be met by adopting the relevant
recommendations given in British Standards BS 8303, BS EN 15287 as an alternative means to achieve
an equivalent level of performance to that obtained following the guidance given in Approved Document
J.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Special care must be taken when installing the stove such that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work
Act are met.
Handling
Adequate facilities must be available for loading, unloading and site handling.
Fire Cement
Some types of fire cement are caustic and should not be allowed to come into contact with the skin. In case of
contact wash immediately with plenty of water.
PREPARATORY WORK AND SAFETY CHECKS
IMPORTANT WARNING
This stove must not be installed into a chimney that serves any other heating appliance. There must not be an
extractor fan fitted in the same room as the stove because this can cause the stove to emit fumes into the room.
Asbestos
This stove contains no asbestos. If there is a possibility of disturbing any asbestos in the coarse of installation then
please seek specialist guidance and use appropriate protective equipment.
Metal Parts
When installing or servicing this stove care should be taken to avoid the possibility of personal injury.
CO Alarms:-
Building regulations require that when ever a new or replacement fixed solid fuel or wood/biomass appliance is
installed in a dwelling a carbon monoxide alarm must be fitted in the same room as the appliance. Further guidance
on the installation of the carbon monoxide alarm is available in BS EN 50292:2002 and from the alarm
manufacturer’s instructions. Provision of an alarm must not be considered a substitute for either installing the
appliance correctly or ensuring regular servicing and maintenance of the appliance and chimney system.
Stove paint Aerosols
Paint aerosols are flammable and therefore dangerous to use around a lit stove. Be sure to allow aerosols spray
paints to dry and ventilate the room well before lighting the stove. The use of any aerosol around lit stove is
dangerous and care must be take in handling aerosols.

Chimney Connection
In order for the stove to perform satisfactorily the chimney height must be sufficient to ensure an adequate draught to clear
the products of combustion and prevent smoke problems into the room.

NOTE: A chimney height of not less than 4.5 metres measured vertically from the outlet of the stove to the top of the chimney
should be satisfactory. Alternately the calculation procedure given in BS 5854:1980 may be used as the basis for deciding
whether a particular chimney design will provide sufficient draught.

Flue and Chimney connection to your stove
The outlet from the chimney should be above the roof of the building in accordance with the provisions of Building
Regulations Approved Document J.
If installation is into an existing chimney then it must be sound and have no cracks or other faults which might allow
fumes into the house. Older properties, especially, may have chimney faults or the cross section may be too large i.e.,
more than 230 mm x 230 mm. Remedial action should be taken, if required, seeking expert advice. If it is found necessary
to line the chimney then a flue liner suitable for solid fuel must be used in accordance with Building Regulations
Approved Document J.
Any existing chimney must be clear of obstruction and have been swept clean immediately before installation of the
stove. If the stove is fitted in place of an open fire then the chimney should be swept one month after installation to
clear any soot falls which may have occurred due to the difference in combustion between the stove and the open fire.
If there is no existing chimney then either a prefabricated block chimney in accordance with Building Regulations
Approved Document J or a twin walled insulated stainless steel flue to BS 4543 can be used. These chimneys must be
fitted in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and Building Regulations.
A single wall metal flue pipe is suitable for connecting the stove to the chimney but is not suitable for using for the
complete chimney. The chimney and connecting flue pipe must have a minimum diameter of 150 mm and its
dimension should be not less than the size of the outlet socket of the stove. Any bend in the chimney or connecting
flue pipe should not exceed 45°. 90°bends should not be used other than within 150 mm of stove rear flue outlet.

If it is found that there is excessive draught in the chimney then either an adjustable flue damper or alternately a
draught stabiliser should be fitted. The adjustable flue damper should not close off the flue entirely but should in its
closed position leave a minimum continuous opening free area of at least 20 % of the total cross sectional area of the
flue or flue pipe.
Adequate provision e.g. easily accessible soot door or doors must be provided for sweeping the chimney and connecting
flue pipe
Your appliance needs to be maintained routinely, the throat plate/baffle should be cleaned regularly (monthly) . The
flue pipe can be cleaned using a flexible brush. Only Use a damp cloth on external surfaces. Over time the glass may
become dirty, clean with a damp cloth and polish off with dry cloth. If the stove has not been used for some time the
flue should be checked for blockages before use.
Do not modify the appliance; only use spares authorised by the manufacturer.

Distance to Combustible materials
Combustible materials should not be located where the heat dissipating through the walls of fireplaces or flues could
ignite it. Therefore when installing the stove in the presence of combustible materials due account must be taken of
the guidance on the separation of combustible material given in Building Regulations Approved Document J and also
in these stove instructions.

Hearth
The hearth should be able to accommodate the weight of the stove and its chimney if the chimney is not independently
supported.
The appliance should be installed on floors with adequate load bearing capacity. If the existing construction does not
meet this prerequisite, suitable measures (e.g. load distribution plate) shall be taken to achieve it.
The Somerton stove has been tested and is suitable to be installed on a 12 mm non combustible plate such as 12 mm
glass plates . Installation of all hearths should comply in size and construction so that it is in accordance with the
provisions of the current Building Regulations Approved Document J.
The clearance distances to combustible material beneath, surrounding or on the hearth and walls adjacent to the hearth
should comply with the guidance on the separation of combustible material given in Building Regulations Approved
Document J and also in these stove instructions.
If the stove is to be installed on a wooden floor, it must be covered with a non-combustible material at least 12 mm
thick, in accordance with Building Regulations Approved Document J, to a distance of 30 cm in front of the stove and
15 cm to each side measuring from the door of the combustion chamber.
Combustion air supply
In order for the stove to perform efficiently and safely there should be an adequate air supply into the room in which
the stove is installed to provide combustion air. This is particularly necessary if the room is double-glazed or a flue
draught stabiliser is operating in the same room as the appliance. The provision of air supply to the stove must be in
accordance with current Building Regulations Approved Document J. An opening window is not appropriate for this
purpose. Air inlets must be positioned in such a way that they cannot be blocked. An air inlet may be a vent (the vent
must be open and the capacity for the vent sufficient when the stove is lit) .

Mendip Stoves Insulated chambers
Mendip Stoves are lined with vermiculite heat deflection panels and baffles, these panels are designed to ensure the
maximum efficiency and are an integral part of the clean burn process of the stove. These baffles should not be
removed other than for cleaning the stove. Any defective panels should be replaced.
Place fuel into the fire fire chamber of your stove, impact from logs can cause the heat deflection panel to crack.
Connection to chimney
Mendip Stoves are factory set up with a top flue outlet, this can be altered from top to rear connection, remove the
top collar and rear cover plate and exchanging collar and plate. Care should be taken to ensure an airtight fit when
refitting collar and plate. A decorative cover plate is included with every stove to cover the hole in the convection
top plate.
This collar allows connection to either a masonry chimney or a prefabricated factory made insulated metal chimney.
Commissioning and handover
Ensure loose parts are fitted in accordance with the instructions given in the instruction booklet. On completion of
the installation allow a suitable period of time for any fire cement and mortar to dry out, a small fire may be lit to
check that smoke and fumes are taken from the stove up the chimney and emitted safely into the atmosphere. Do
not run at full output for at least 24 hours.
On completion of the installation and commissioning ensure that the operating instructions for the stove are left with
the customer. Ensure to advise the customer on the correct use of the appliance with the fuels likely to be used in
the stove and notify them to use only the recommended fuels for the stove.
Advise the user what to do should smoke or fumes be emitted from the stove. The customer should be warned to
use a fireguard to BS 6539 in the presence of children, aged and/or infirm persons.

Operating your stove- Somerton stove
Suitable fuels
Somerton is tested to burn wood. Wood briquettes and peat can also be burnt. For a full list of suitable fuels, check
with the official solid fuels approvals body, HETAS or Solid Fuel Association. Do not overload stove as this can cause
excessive heat and damage the stove( see table on page 4). ALWAYS KEEP FUEL LOAD BELOW TERTIARY PORTS AT
REAR OF STOVE.
Only use fuels approved for use on heating stoves.
Do not burn liquid fuels, drift wood, finished wood, sawn wood, pallet wood, chipboard/plywood ,varnished wood
or plastic coated wood, wood treated with preservatives, or house hold waste. DO NOT EXCEED SPECIFIED FUEL
WEIGHTS.
DO NOT BURN HOUSE COAL. DO NOT BURN HOUSEHOLD WASTE, THIS APPLIANCE IS NOT AN INCINERATOR.
MENDIP STOVES RECOMMEND THE USE OF A FLUE THERMOSTAT TO CHECK YOUR STOVE IS NOT OVERHEATING.
PLACE FLUE THERMOSTAT DIRECTLY ABOVE COLLAR OF STOVE AND REFER TO TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON PAGE 4.
The first lighting of your stove.
Before lighting your stove for first time make sure you have read this manual fully and acquainted yourself with the
controls of this appliance. (see page 9)
The heat-resistant paint on your stove will cure and harden the first time you light your appliance. The curing process
produces a good deal of smoke and odour, it is therefore important that the first time you light your stove the room
should be well ventilated. During the process it is important to open and close the stove door periodically (every
30mins) during the first couple of firings therefore preventing the door seal cord around the door from sticking and
coming away from the door. Once the heat-resistant paint has hardened the smell will disappear. This stove is NOT
designed to be used with the door open, the stove door must be kept closed except when lighting the stove, adding
firewood or removing ash in order to prevent flue gases from escaping.
Lighting your appliance
Quality Firelighters should be used when lighting the stove. (Never use metholated spirit, petrol or other flammable
liquids). Lighting your stove with firelighters will be more reliable and easier than using paper.
TO LIGHT YOUR STOVE (wood)
1. Place a few smaller pieces of dry wood (kindling) in the stove on top of the non toxic firelighters, place one or two
small dry split logs (¼ split) on top.
2. Fully slide open ( pull out fully) the Universal air control (UAC) air slider below the stove door. Slide out fully to the
left position. The stove now has total primary air for start up.
3. Light the firelighters and push door to closed position, latch in 1st position so the door is open 2 mm. This provides
additional combustion air for start up and reduces condensation on the door glass. If neccessary open ash pan a small
amount.
4. Once the flames from the logs are fully established ( this can take some time) slide UAC control fully out to the right
( this is full seconday air).
5. If the stove begins to falter and generate smoke move UAC slider to central position again until fire is established.
6. Once the fire bed is established slide uac control to the secondary position and push in slider by 25%, for the stove
to burn cleanly plenty of secondary air is needed, do not be tempted to shut the fire down too early as this may cause
smoke. At nominal heat output, expect to refuel your stove approximately once an hour.
Check load weights for your model on the table on page 4.
The stove will get very hot during use and due care must therefore be exercised. Please use the glove when operating
air controls , door and ashpan.

RE-FUELLING ( wood)
To re-fuel your stove in the cleanest way.
Only refuel your stove when flames have died down and you have glowing embers.
Before refuelling, open UAC fully open to central position .
Open door gently, add three pieces of wood (see weight table page 4) and close the door.
Once the flames from the logs are fully established slide UAC control to right position and push air control to 75%
openposition.
The stove is only suitable for intermittent use only: do not run overnight or for long periods unattended. Experience
will determine the settings that produce best results. Use a flue thermostat to check the stove is not overheating. Flue
thermostats should be placed directly above collar of the stove on a non insulated section of pipe. (efficient operating
temperature range is between 200c and 400c) The stove will get very hot during use and due care must therefore be
exercised. Please use the glove when operating air controls and door.
Universal air control
The Universal air control provides primary secondary and tertiary combustion air for the stove from one
simple control.

Incomplete combustion
If the air controls on your Somerton stove are closed too much incomplete combustion may lead to a build-up of
hard, shiny soot on the inside of your stove and glass. To prevent sooting of the chamber and glass introduce:-
1) more secondary air,
2) check that your fuel is suitable and dry.
3) that you have sufficient draw in your chimney.
It is important to check the draft conditions before lighting your stove. This may be done, for instance, by crumpling a
piece of newspaper, placing it in the combustion chamber and lighting it. The draft conditions are good if the smoke
is drawn away through the chimney.
WOOD FUEL
Good quality wood is the most important factor in your stove working efficiently and cleanly. Always use dry split
hardwood firewood (moisture content of 20% or less). The dryness of the firewood plays an important role since the
use of wet wood results in poor fuel economy and may cause a tarry sooty film on the internals of the stove.
Newly cut wood contains 60–70% water, making it totally unsuitable for use as firewood.
Newly cut wood should be stacked and air dried under cover for two years before being used as firewood.
Do not burn liquid fuels, drift wood, finished, sawn wood, pallet wood, chipboard/plywood, varnished wood or
plastic coated wood, wood treated with preservatives, or house hold waste.
SOLID SMOKELESS FUELS-
The Somerton model is not suitable for use with smokeless fuels and House coal.
HOUSE COAL AND PETROLEUM COKE ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR USE ON THIS STOVE; ITS USE WILL INVALIDATE THE
GUARANTEE.
Overnight burning
Mendip stoves Ltd do not recommend burning wood in a slumbering position,this creates smoke and tac deposits.
Mendip stoves Somerton model is designed to burn wood . Wood burns more efficiently and cleanly if it is burnt
hotter. Mendip stoves do not recommend that their stoves are burnt overnight for this reason.
As a night time regime we recommend that the fire is loaded when hot and burnt for five minutes with the secondary
air control fully open until the new wood has taken and is burning, then close the secondary air valve to its operational
position.
On returning to the stove in the morning the fire will have burn out, reload with some paper or firelighter and some
kindling and open UAC air slider to full primary position to relight quickly. Beware as the ash bed will have hot embers.
Permanent air vent
The stove requires a permanent air vent to the room . This is to provide adequate air supply in order for the stove to
operate safely and efficiently. In accordance with current Building Regulations the installer may have fitted a permanent
air supply vent into the room in which the stove is installed to provide combustion air. This air vent should not under
any circumstances be shut off or sealed.
The Somerton wood stove is fitted a conection point ( in log store area) which allows the stove to take combustion air
for the stove directly from outside via a 80mm conection . This conection will provide adequete air for the stove to
operate independantly of the room when the fire door is closed. Provision must be made for adequate vemtilation
when stove is being loaded.

Bottom Door
When opening the bottom door of your stove always
wear the glove that is provided to protect your hand from
possible heat.
The door is held by a magnetic catch and is open from
the central cut out below the air controls.
Fire Door
When opening the door of your Mendip stove always wear
the glove that is provided to protect your hand from
possible heat.
The handle has push pull motion . When shutting the door
push the door closed and push handle firmly until the door
latches.

Always use the glove provided when handling parts likely to be hot when the stove is in use.

Maintenance
Mendip stoves recommend that the Somerton model have the ash removed from the stove at regular intervals
(weekly if used daily). Allowing the ash pan to over flow can impede the function of the stove and can cause possible
damage to the stove grate and ash pan. To remove ash pan pull out ashpan ( wear glove provided) from frontal loop
on front of ash pan drawer. Pull out of firebox chamber. Take care to support ash pan during movement, always wear
a heat resistant glove. Make sure the stove is completely cold before cleaning out ash (embers can remain hot for over
24 hours).
Ash must be stored in a non-combustible container and must not be mixed with other combustible waste.
Prolonged non use (summer)
if the stove is to be left unused for a prolonged period of time (e.g. over the summer) then it should be given a thorough
clean to remove ash and unburned fuel residues. Ensure a good flow of air through the appliance whilst it is inactive
to prevent condensation / moisture and subsequent possible corrosion damage,> Please leave air controls fully open
during inactivty.
It is important that the flue connection, any appliance baffles or throat plates and the chimney are swept prior to lighting
up after a prolonged shutdown period.
Adverse weather conditions
If due to adverse weather conditions your stove does not operate correctly and causes the stove to emit smoke, do
not treat it as a nuisance, this smoke will indicate that carbon monoxide is being emitted into the room. Turn the stove
to its minimum firing rate, open windows and allow the stove’s fuel to burn out before closing the windows. The
probable cause is insufflcient draw, check flue ways and have the chimney tested for flue pressure. Minimum pressure
for a flue is 12 pascals.
Annual service
The inside of the stove should be serviced /cleaned once a year. To clean the inside, remove all ash, soot and tar residue
from the combustion chamber. Remove insulated chamber panels and baffle, dirt and soot will collect behind it and
this must be cleaned out. Check the quality of all insulated panels and replace any which are damaged or badly cracked,
replace stove door rope cord in the door. Check glass is correctly positioned.
The stove, the flue pipe connection and the chimney should be checked regularly by a qualified engineer. The chimney
should also be checked for blockages before relighting the stove if it has not been used for an extended period of time.
The paint/ lacquer can wear thin in exposed places due to overheating. This, and other lacquer damage, may be repaired
using Senotherm paint/lacquer spray available from your Mendip dealer.
To clean the outside of the stove use a dry lint free cloth.
Warning Note
Properly installed, operated and maintained this stove will not emit fumes into the dwelling. Occasional fumes from
de-ashing and re-fuelling may occur. However, persistent fume emission is potentially dangerous and must not be
tolerated. If fume emission does persist, then the following immediate action should be taken:-
(a) Open doors and windows to ventilate the room and then leave the premises.
(b) Let the fire go out.
(c) Check for flue or chimney blockage and clean if required
(d) Do not attempt to relight the fire until the cause of the fume emission has been identified and corrected. If necessary
seek expert advice.
The most common cause of fume emission is flueway or chimney blockage. For your own safety these must be kept
clean at all times.
CO Alarm
Your installer should have fitted a CO alarm in the same room as the appliance. If the alarm sounds unexpectedly, follow
the instructions given under “Warning Note” above.

Trouble shooting
1. Fire will not burn - check
a. the air inlet is not obstructed in any way,
b. that chimney and flue ways are clear,
c. that a suitable fuel is being used,
d. Wood is dry (20% mositure recommended)
e. that there is an adequate air supply into the room,
f. that an extractor fan is not fitted in the same room as the fire.
2. Fire Blazing Out Of Control - check
a the doors are tightly closed,
b the air controls are turned down to the minimum setting,
c the flue damper is closed (if fitted),
d Check ash pan is fully closed during operational use
e suitable fuel is being used,
f the door seals are in good condition.
g the chimney draft may be too strong
h check ash pan seal and
i check for ash below ash pan causing pan to seat incorrectly and clean out.
3) Soot forms on the window
a) The firewood may be too wet
b) the intake of secondary air may be insufficient
c) fire not hot enough
4) The stove fails to heat fully
a) The firewood may be too wet
b) the intake of secondary air may be insufficient
5) Smoke or odour
a) Weak chimney draft
b) check for blockages in the flue pipe/chimney
c) check the height of the chimney relative to the surroundings
6) Soot in the chimney
a) The firewood may be too wet
b) intake of secondary air may be insufficient
Chimney Fires
If the chimney is thoroughly and regularly swept, chimney fires should not occur. However, if a chimney fire does
occur turn the air control setting to the minimum, and tightly close the doors of the stove. This should cause the
chimney fire to go out in which case the control should be kept at the minimum setting until the fire in the stove has
gone out. The chimney and flue ways should then be cleaned. If the chimney fire does not go out when the above
action is taken then the fire brigade should be called immediately.
After a chimney fire the chimney should be carefully examined for any damage. Expert advice should be sought if
necessary

Lors de l'installation du poêle, vous devez vous assurer de la conformité aux lois sur la santé et la sécurité au travail.
Manutention
Des installations et équipements adéquats doivent être disponibles pour les chargements, déchargements et
manœuvres sur le site.
TRAVAIL PREPARATOIRE ET CONTROLES DE SECURITE
Pièces en métal
Prenez toutes les précautions nécessaires lors de l'installation ou de l'entretien de ce poêle pour éviter les blessures.
AVERTISSEMENT IMPORTANT
Ce poêle ne doit pas être installé dans une cheminée servant à d'autres appareils de chauffage. La pièce où est placé
le poêle ne doit pas être équipée d'un dispositif d'extraction (VMC par exemple) car ceci pourrait provoquer des fumées
en provenance du poêle.
Poêle peinture aérosols
Aérosols de peinture sont inflammables et donc dangereux d'utiliser autour d'un poêle allumé. Permettre aux peintures
sécher et aérer la pièce bien avant le poêle en functionnement.
Ciment réfractaire
Certains types de ciments réfractaires sont caustiques et ne doivent pas entrer en contact avec la peau. Après tout
contact avec les yeux, laver immédiatement et abondamment à l'eau.
Amiante
Ce poêle ne contient pas d'amiante. Si l'installation exige une manipulation d'amiante, contactez un spécialiste et
utilisez l'équipement de protection adapté.
Ces instructions concernent les principes fondamentaux de bonne installation des poêles multi-combustible Somerton
de Mendip. Il faudra toutefois peut-être modifier légèrement certains détails pour s'adapter aux conditions
spécifiques du site.
Dans tous les cas, l'installation doit répondre à la législation locale et aux autres spécifications ou règlementations
affectant l'installation du poêle.

PERFORMANCE ET MISE A L'ESSAI DES POÊLES
Les poêles SOMERTON- évolution de MENDIP STOVES sont testés et homologués conformément à EN 13240.
Raccordement à la cheminée
Pour que le poêle fonctionne bien, la hauteur de la cheminée doit être suffisante pour assurer un bon tirage,
évacuer les produits de combustion et empêcher la fumée d'entrer dans la pièce.

REMARQUE : Une cheminée de 4,5 m au minimum, mesurée verticalement de la sortie du poêle au haut de la cheminée,
devrait suffire. Il est aussi possible de se servir de la procédure de calcul de NF DTU 24.1 pour décider si un modèle
spécifique de cheminée créera un tirage suffisant.

Caractéristiques techniques
Raccordement de la cheminée et du tuyau de fumée au poêle
La sortie de la cheminée devrait être plus haute que le toit du bâtiment conformément aux dispositions du document
J des règlementations du secteur du bâtiment approuvées.
Longueur des bûches
Si l'installation est réalisée dans une cheminée existante, cette dernière doit être saine, sans fissures ou autres
problèmes qui pourraient laisser passer des gaz et fumées dans la maison. Les cheminées des anciennes maisons en
particulier sont susceptibles d'avoir des défectuosités, ou peuvent avoir une section transversale trop grande, à savoir
plus de 230 x 230 mm. Des mesures correctives doivent être prises s'il y a lieu, en demandant l'aide d'un spécialiste.
S'il est nécessaire de tuber la cheminée, une tuyauterie de tubage adaptée aux combustibles solides doit être utilisée
conformément à NF DTU 24.1.
Les cheminées existantes ne doivent receler aucune obstruction et doivent avoir été ramonées et nettoyées juste avant
l'installation du poêle. Si le poêle est installé pour remplacer un âtre ouvert, la cheminée doit être ramonée un mois
après l'installation pour éliminer les retombées de suie éventuelles causées par la différence de combustion entre le
feu dans un poêle et le feu en âtre ouvert. Si aucune cheminée n'existe, il est possible d'en installer de type préfabriqué
en maçonnerie, ou en tuyau en acier inox à double paroi conformément à NF DTU 24.1. Ces cheminées doivent être
installées conformément aux consignes d'utilisation du fabricant.

Température de fumée et taux de combustion
Les distances pour raccordement du poêle.
Un tuyau en métal à une seule paroi suffit pour raccorder le poêle à la cheminée, mais pas pour une cheminée complète.
La cheminée et le tuyau de fumée doivent avoir un diamètre minimum de 150 mm et cette dimension ne doit pas être
inférieure à celle du raccordement extérieur du poêle. Les courbes qui existent peut-être dans la cheminée ou la
tuyauterie de fumée ne doivent pas excéder 45°. Ne jamais utiliser plusieurs coudes de 90°.
Si le tirage est trop important dans la cheminée, installer soit un registre réglable de tuyau de cheminée, soit un
stabilisateur de tirage. Le registre réglable de tuyau de fumée ne doit pas le fermer complètement mais devrait laisser,
en position fermée, une ouverture continue d'au moins 20% de l'aire de la section du carneau ou du tuyau.
Un moyen simple d'accès, comme une ou plusieurs portes de ramonage, doit être prévu pour ramoner la cheminée et
le tuyau de fumée attaché.
Votre poêle doit être entretenu régulièrement et le registre/déflecteur doit être nettoyé fréquemment (tous les mois).
Le tuyau à fumée peut être nettoyé avec une brosse souple. Utiliser uniquement un chiffon humide sur les surfaces
extérieures.
Avec le temps le verre peut devenir sale. Nettoyez-le avec un chiffon humide, finissant avec un chiffon humide propre.
Si le poêle n'a pas servi depuis un moment, vérifiez que le carneau ou tuyau n'est pas obstrué.
Ne modifiez pas le poêle et n'installez que des pièces de rechange autorisées par le fabriquant.

Distance à respecter par rapport aux matières combustibles
Il ne doit pas y avoir de matières combustibles là où la chaleur qui se diffuse à travers les murs des âtres ou les parois des
tuyaux pourrait les enflammer. Lorsqu'un poêle est installé non loin de matières combustibles, tenez-compte des conseils
relatifs à la séparation des matériaux combustibles indiqués dans NF DTU 24.1 ainsi que dans ces instructions.
Les distances minimum par rapport aux matières combustibles sont spécifiées sur la plaque EN13240 à l'arrière du poêle et
dans le tableau ci-dessous.
Les distances de sécurité
Atre
L'âtre doit pouvoir supporter le poids du poêle et de sa cheminée si celle-ci n'est pas supportée indépendamment.
Les poêles Somerton ont été testés et peuvent être installés sur une plaque non combustible de 12 mm, comme les plaques
de verre de 12 mm par exemple. L'installation, la taille et la construction de tous les âtres doivent être conformes aux
dispositions des réglementations en vigueur du secteur du bâtiment.
Les distances de sécurité par rapport aux matériaux combustibles sous l'âtre, sur l'âtre, ou par rapport aux murs voisins de
l'âtre, doivent être conformes aux conseils sur la séparation des matières combustibles stipulées dans les règlementations
du secteur du bâtiment et dans ces instructions.
Si le poêle doit être installé sur un sol en bois, celui-ci doit être recouvert d'un matériau non-combustible de 12 mm
d'épaisseur au minimum conformément aux règlementations du secteur du bâtiment, sur 30 cm à l'avant du poêle et sur
15 cm de chaque côté, en mesurant à partir de la porte de la chambre de combustion.
Arrivée d'air de combustion
Pour que le poêle marche efficacement sans danger, la pièce où il est installé doit avoir une arrivée d'air adéquate pour la
combustion. Ceci est particulièrement nécessaire si la pièce a un double vitrage ou si un stabilisateur de tirage de tuyau de
fumée fonctionne dans la même pièce que le poêle. L'arrivée d'air au poêle doit être conforme aux règlementations en
vigueur du secteur du bâtiment. Une fenêtre qui s'ouvre ne convient pas dans ce cas. Les entrées d'air doivent être situées
de façon à ce qu'il ne soit pas possible de les bloquer. Une arrivée d'air peut être un aérateur (qui doit être ouvert et avoir
une capacité suffisante lorsque le poêle est allumé) ou un système d'air frais raccordé au poêle.
Il n'existe pas de règlements européens couvrant la distance minimum aux murs ignifuges. Mendip Stoves recommande de
laisser un intervalle d'au moins 15 cm derrière le poêle et sur les côtés.
