PhotogrqPhY
This is o designotion composed of two Greek words. The first of them signifies
,,light", while the other is on equivolent for,,drowing' writing'
And this is whot photogrophy reolly is: pointing with light of if

porogrophs of this little booklet which we submit to your kind ottention.
it is not so eosy to moke perfect snopshots.lt requires the obility of selecting'
ct coptivoting motive, to choose the right exposure, further, to moster perfectly
the processing of films etc. In the first ploce it is, howev6r, of primory impor-

The Flexoret Vll is o fully-outomotic twin-le;i reflex comero. Twelve pictures
6X6 cm or 16 pictures 4,5X6 cm in size con be mode on 82 roll filnr, or 3t
up to 34 pictures 24X36 mm or 43 to 46 pictures 24x24 mm in size on
35 cin6 film.
The focussing is corried out by the movement of o focussing lever within the
limits of obout 1100
from 1 m in infinity (-), the two lenses being moved
simultoneously.
ln order to enoble speedy focussing odjustment the focussing
lever is provided with cotches for neor medium ond infinite ("") distonce.
These cotches con be dispensed with ond the lever moves then continuously.
The comero is equipped with o depth-of-focus
scole engroved on the focussing
lever proper. To focilitote the focussing o mognifier is used which con be
tilted over the ground-gloss. The imoge seen on the ground gloss screen
is not reversed verticolly ond it is perfectly bright. The snopshots con olso
be token from eye level by odjusting the viewfinder to eye-level shots
(direct vision - D. V. finder). This method is used to odvontoge when toking
ropid sporting snopshots. The toking lens proper is o BELAR four-gloss
onostigmot f 3.5, F:80 mm, which olso is used os o viewing lens, Both
lenses ore provided with ontireflection cooting.
The mounts of the two lenses ore fitted with B 36 boyonet tock for ottoching
the filters ond odopter lenses.
A sunshode con be fixed to the boyonet lock
B40 on the outer mount of the toking lens.
The Prestor shutter is o five-lomelloe centrol-type shutter with outomotic
releose (deloyed oction) ond o floshlight synchronizer.
The shutter cocking is
outomotic ond is effected simultoneously with film rewinding. However, the.
shutter con be cocked ond releosed orbitrorily even without simultoneous
film
rewinding.
The comero shutter releose is of o push-button type, with threoded operture
for flexible wire releose. lt is interlocked with the rewinding mechonism. ln
oddition, on the comero body there is o device securing the comero releose
ogoinst undesiroble releosing of the shutter.
The film rewinding is corried out by the rewind knob, fitted on the right-hond
side of the instrument. When rewinding the beginning of the film up to the
first exposure ond the film end ofter the twelfth exposure, the knob con be
turned continuously.
From the first exposure up to the twelfth the rewind knob
is outomoticolly locked in position ofter the film length corresponding to one
picture hos been rewound. Simultoneously the shutter is cocked ond the
comero releose releosed. By its depressing up to the stop when the negotive
is being exposed, the rewind knob is releosed onew ond it con be turned
ogoin. As long os the respective
film length hos not been rewound, no expo-
sure con be mode. Hence, the film (negotive) connot be odvonced without
being exposed,
ond no further exposure
con be mode on the negotive
which hos
olreody been exposed.
www.orphancameras.com

3"
The number of exposures1 to 12 is indicoted outomoticolly by meons of the
film counter which is outomoticolly set to zero when the comero reclr cover
is opened (i. e' when looding the comero)'
For exposures 4,5X6 cm mode on the 92 roll film o mosk (coche) hos to
be insertedinto the opporotus onto the film guide ond into the viewfinder ond
the tronsmission
lever on the right-hond side of the instrument hos to be set
to the correct position.
This tronsmission lever odjustment olsp opplies to the
24X24 mm exposures mode on 35 mm cine film'
For counting more thon 12 exposures, the comero is equipped with on
odditionol counter indicoting tens of exposures. This oncillory counter is
locoted beside the window of the moin counter, ond its odjustment to the
tens hos to be done monuolly. By inserting o mosk upon the film guide the
exposure counter is so odjusted thot it is outomoticolly set to the number
,,1" when the eleventh exposure is mode. The exposure-number higher thon
11 is then reod on both counters.
lf o 35 mm cin6 film, is used, the comero con be eosily odjusted for this
purpose. lt is only necessory to ploce o guide of 35 mm film into
the comero, to set o speciol-type 35 mm spoot upon the upper spool pivots
ond to provide the lower ones with extension pivots'
The exposed film is then rewound bock into the originol mogozlne by meons
of the rewind knob. In the middle of the lotter there is o push-button enobling
the reverse rewinding of o 35 mm film. Also when using o 35 mm cine film'
the rewind knob ond the comero releose lever ore interlocked ogoinst double
exposure ond the odvoncing of o non-exposed film' The releose lever is
locoted neor the viewing lens ond it is eosily controlled by .the forefinger
of the right hond, this being very odvontogeous becouse,
when photogrophing,
the comero con be held firmly with both honds thus ensuring its stobility,
whilst the focussing lever is controlled with the thumb ond forefinger of the
left hond.
Hence, control of oll octions to be performed before the exposure is mode,
is very simple ond speedy, without crossing the honds, oll their movements
being very purposeful.
In the spoce between the lens ond the' film plone ontireflection dio-
phrogms ore inserted which serve to copture the roys reflected from the
comero wolls ond prevent the former from striking the sensitiveloyer of the
film whot would result in the formotion of folse imoges. On the comero reor
lid the toble of colour filters is ploced. Below this toble o speciol device
is locoted which records
the kind ond sensitivity
of the looded film' In itscentre
there is o window in which the number indicoting the size of the looded
film is outomoticolly set, On the cornero side there ore fitted the slides
which serve for sliding on on opticol D' V. viewfinder (eye-level finder) for
photogrophing on o cine film.

The omount of light which is ollowed to poss through the lens cqn
be voried by stopping down the lotter. The respective
scole corries the following
stop numbers
z3.5,
4, 5.6,8, '11,
16, 22; the stop number 3.5 corresponds
to the
fufly open lens operture; on the other hond, when set to the number 22, only
o smoll omount of light posses through the lens. These stop numbers hqve
been chosen so thot stopping down to the next higher number"
olwoys results
in holving the omount of light possing through the lens of the preceding step.
This dependence however, does not, hold good between the volues 3.5 qnd 4.
c) Exposure time odjustment
The shutter is provided with figures which indicote the,,speed" of the shutter,
i. e. the time during which it is opened, i. e. the length of exposure time.
The indicoted figures qre os follows 1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250,
500.The figu
re ,,1" indicotes one second, the figure 2 correspondsto 1/2
second,
the figure I to tle second, the figure 125 to llns second, etc. In oddition to
these figures there is the letter,,B" on the shutter, for moking time
exposures.
Beginners should use the exposure time rltzs second when moking
shots ,,from the hond" (i. e. without tripod), so os to ottoin stobility
ond to ovoid vibrotion of the token picture. Only expert photogrophers con
use the exposure time of rlso sec. or longer.
By turning the externol knur-
